Just curious what you guys think about him. I have been seeing videos of him popping up frequently lately. He might be one of the biggest bad asses in the world or one of the greatest instructors ever but about 2 mins in to every video I can't stand him. I think he reminds me of Steven Segal too much, maybe his speech pattern / weird accent? I don't know something just seems off about him to me. Anyone else get this feeling?
i've seen him only twice and i'm already annoyed by him
One of the guys on the forum trains at his gym out here in Chicago. I've never met the guy so I can't say much
I'm liking his videos. Makes a lot of sense
He's that rare type of instructor that looks far beyond your physical growth and wants you to grow mentally and spiritually as well. He's personally helped me reevaluate and change a lot of the bad habits and negative attitudes I carried around with me on a daily basis. He's a true martial artist, and one of the most positive dudes you'll ever meet. I can guarantee there are a decent number of higher belts on this forum that can vouge for how good of a guy he is. If you actually watch and listen to his videos, you'll pick up a lot of great advice to build the foundations for different parts of your game. But if you're just gonna start a thread to make fun of the guys accent (he's of Bosnian descent), then we'll be experiencing this awkward momentch.
Thanks Arman. I would never make a thread to make fun of someone. I really was just wondering if he was worth investing time in his videos. Just because someone has a black belt or recognizable name does not mean they are actual good instructors. The video that particularly turned me off had a lot of pauses and uhhs in it which made me wonder what was up.Quote:

I watched a video from a guy I hadn't heard much about. Something about the video seemed different from most instructional videos that are on the web. I couldn't quite put my finger on what I didn't like about it. I made a quick post here asking others opinions because I know who is legit in the 10th Planet system and if any of them came back with a positive opinion of the guy I would have immediately said ok, cool, and tried giving his videos another run through. The reason i clicked on them in the first place is because the topics interested me.
I'm pretty sure Adem and Denny are boys. The Team R dudes have always been super cool to us and that usually comes from the top down. Team R is super legit and cool in my book.
I haven't met Adem nor seen his instructionals to know about his accent, but his students are legit which speaks for alot. ;]
Adem is a super cool dude! He has really good Jiu Jitsu and is an awesome teacher :)

I've watched it well over a dozen times since it came out and still learn something new each time. This is open-guard DNA at its core.

You mean to tell me, that I have to learn all these guards? Not if you watch this video or have a good coach that has already projected these principles on you. For a few months now, I've been getting smashed by people who are much bigger and stronger than me while trying to play the clinch game (lockdown half, quarter-guard, etc). I've been told time and again that I need to create space, but every time I do, my opponent is able to capitalize and smash me even worse. It was enough to put doubt in my mind that the clinch game is the best way to unify my gi and no-gi games.
When I heard Eddie Bravo say that he's been playing more open guard to get people to commit to clinching him, a light bulb went on in my head. Sounds like a fun idea.
Last night, I attended a seminar from Professor Redzovik. Had a great time, learned a lot. I was toying with the idea that my open guard game was super weak and that I couldn't ignore it any longer. Now I'm sure that's true.
The professor presented a simple framework within which we can think about and classify various open guard / half guard positions. He humbly designates this as "his perspective" which made his ideas easy for me to incorporate into my own very limited doctrine (even though there are undoubtedly plenty of black belts who have their own theories, I can't name a single black belt who doesn't deserve my attention when he or she speaks, particularly those who know that there are a lot of theories out there).
I'll re-share the video someone else linked to months ago in a way that's easier to click. I think it would be easy for clinch-minded folks to get defensive about some of these things, but I'm beginning to think there is harmony rather than discord between open guard and a clinching style of half-guard / quarter-guard. Professor Redzovik has helped me see where that harmony might be.

For what it's worth, this white belt thinks that if 10th Planet academies want to grow the open guard aspects of the System, Adem's ideas might help.
Y'all should think about bringing him in for a seminar IMHO. He's a cool dude, and what he had to say may improve my lockdown game. :)
It was a great seminar and awesome seeing you there Josh. I was in Seattle so I wasn't gonna miss it and even though it's stuff I started to incorporate over a year ago training at his school, there are deeper levels and deeper understandings that just keep popping up. One thing to note from this seminar that all 10p could benefit from was this idea of stability and mobility, using your shoulder, hands, and elbows as stable base points to assist in you gaining greater mobility while on your side. This way, you can more easily manage the weight with which one is smashing you. It's basic DNA-level stuff that can allow guard players and jiu jitsu artists in general to gain a greater appreciation and deeper understanding of the tools and weapons they have at their disposal to battle someone with your open guard. You brought up a point that several black belts have their own theories. With this, I agree. I also propose that none of them are necessarily wrong. They are all, at the end of the day, different perspectives. But Adem's the man. You guys would all definitely benefit from getting to know him.
When I watched this video, I really started implementing these fundamental in my game and it improved quickly. The principals are great. Much indebted to Adem and I think he's just an overall cool guy. He has a great history
