Hey guys, I had my elbow popped a couple times yesterday in an arm bar, my buddy sat back quickly and it just "pop" pop" I didnt think anything of it cause it felt fine and I continued rolling but today I'm having trouble straightening it and pulling on things. Whats the best/fastest way recover and is it something I should baby for a while or just work through it?

Get it checked out by your doctor and for sure don't roll on it until you're feeling 100%. It probably just got a little hyperextended and it should heal on it's own. Ice and rest is a pretty safe bet for recovery

Eventually it heals. It takes a long time. You might not be able to do pushups for like a month. From my experience, once you're able to do a good set of pushups without collapsing in pain, you should be ready to roll....as long as you don't roll hard.
do not work through it. Give it a solid week at the very least and ice it the first few days, if you can still straigthen it and flex it that's a good sign... but I'd at least give it a solid week bro
Had my shit popped a while ago and took me a few months because I was impatient
I am a huge fan of ART (Active Release Technique) and see a ART therapist about 2x a month to help me through various injuries and tightness I get from rolling. You can find an ART therapist here: http://www.activerelease.com/providersearch.asp. About 2 months ago got caught in a omoplata and the next day my right upper arm was super sore and I could not fully extend my arm. A few sessions with the ART person and I was good to go. I would also recommend taking natural anti-inflammatories. I personally take Tumeric, tart cherry supplements and eat foods that help with inflammation such as dark greens, etc. I also use Traumeel cream.
I got americana'd pretty bad in my first tournament as a white belt. That was over two years ago and it's still not 100% back to normal. I maybe took a couple days off. A lot of the posts summed up what to do for the most part: ice, communicate with training partners, tap quick & often, and be on a quest to know how much danger you're in in certain positions. I don't really get americana'd now and I'd like to think it has something to do with knowing firsthand the damage it could cause. But in the gym especially, tap. Some guys might go for the finish 100%, some guys won't, but I've found that the harder I resist and struggle, the more painful the finish. There should develop a point of no return to admit defeat. A hit to the ego is way more worth it than an injury that takes you off the mat for days or weeks on end.
When that happens to me I go and see my chiropractor and corrects the issue right away. Mind you this doesn't cure the pain immediately but it helps it recover faster for my next roll.
It's happened to me two or three times.. Two pops, no biggie. It gets sore. Take Aleve or Naproxin for about two weeks. You can still roll with it. Just gotta take something for the swelling so it heals fast. If you don't do that it takes about six weeks for it to feel better. There's not really a reason to go to the doctor unless you have insurance and it's free..you overextended it. That is all.

The worst thing is to be down and having to watch everyone else roll. I held pads for a buddy getting ready for a fight and by the end of about an hour and half of holding pads it loosened up pretty good, I iced up last night and woke up pretty soar again but im sure a few ice sessions and warm ups I should be good to roll soon.
