Well deserved..??...Thats that nth dimension stuff eh
drysdale is definitely legit, so I guess if he says so.
Anyhow, doesn`t this seem to follow then trend of Neil and Randy....... People trying to make money off of the fighters by giving them a belt and promoting there system. Here is my problem.. if you watch Forest fight I don`t see much of Drysdale in his technique, Watch randy fight and yeah he is a great grappler, is that how Neil Melanson fights. Not really
Randy has his own style and he could tell the world he is a black belt in Randy Courture and the world would buy his books and learn to fight his way. But instead he said hey! thanks for the Black Belt.
This is what Eddie did., .................................................. ......
Eddie trains his fighters and gives them a belt according to what he thinks they are. When we watch them fight we see a bit of eddie in their style.
That is not what Randy did.........
Or Forest...........
Randy may be a catch wrestler and I bet............he could tap the shit out of Neil. If Neil is his master show me the money, techniques, you know what I mean. Videos, fights you name it. I know Randy is a beast, who could tap him out..... Who is his master.
Not at all Dwight.
Everybody should have their own Jiu Jitsu. Obviously Scott, Denny, Gerald and sean will have bits of their game similar to Eddie's, but all their games are very different. They are all still black belts.
Randy and Forrest will definitely use techniques they have been taught by their instructors, but they won't be like for like copies and gladly so.
You say that Randy could tap the shit out of Neil Melanson? How does this invalidate the black belt? If anything, this validates it even more. I bet you all of Eddie's black belts have tapped him.
Randy is the master of Randy Courture not Neil Melanson. Forest is the master of Robert drys........ Forest Griffin version of Robert Drysdayle, at his own weight of course. Or what can we expect, you tell me
Dude everyone develops their own style if they didn't then jiu jitsu would be a very boring sport
^this
and
Even Helio had a master.
With how long Forrest has been training I'm surprised he already wasn't a black belt. Pros train this stuff all the time, way more than you're typical 9-5 weekend warrior. Forrest has been an active fighter for over 9 years now so he's probably had at least 10 years of jiujitsu training before he got his black belt.
It makes sense to me.
I believe i'm correct when i say that Forrest had his purple from a SBGi instructor since he was on the Ultimate Fighter show. That was quite a bit of time ago. And if you say that Drysdale doesn't know a black belt when he sees one and you question his judgment, you're a fucking douche bag. What do you know? You're maybe a purple at best?
He's a white belt, Robert
Thus why I said maybe a purple at best Sir Chow.
Im glad Forest is awsome and his book is the best thing iv read to date. Has Jason Mayhem Miller got his black yet he has been a brown for ages, his jitz is slick.
I'm sorry about the post, it was late and I was a little under the influence. I agree, forest has been in it for awhile and must have alot of mat time. I don't expect anyone to be carbon copies, we all find our own way.
What brown belt is gonna question the judgment of someone as good as Robert Drysdale? I gave him the benefit of the doubt by saying maybe a purple at best. Maybe he just got his purple and had an ego. Not everyone here puts their true belt rank on their profile.
sometimes I don't know about the posts people make. I'm perplexed that someone as great at jiu jitsu as Robert Drysdale get questioned by his belt ranking. WTF?
People questioning this are probably not factoring in that this is a pure (Jiu-Jitsu) rank not a (Jiu-Jitsu in MMA) rank and even though you haven't seen a very high level game from Forest in his MMA fights it doesn't mean his pure grappling skills are not at this level.
Things can become very different for people in MMA when punches are being thrown if their ground game doesn't have a philosophy behind it of controlling the opponent using only limbs and not the Gi.
And this is a Gi - Jiu-Jitsu rank correct?
I am sure Forrest has ground skills, but what I was curious about was does he get a Nth dimension black belt or a bjj black belt? And as far as my rank goes I have none.
With 10th planet if you have a black belt you become brown until you fully know the system. Does Forrest know the whole nth dimension system if it is a system or just bjj?
No need to get all hostile, I did'nt say drysdayle does'nt know a black when he sees one. Regardless of rank, which I have none, I am just curious as to what kind of style Forest has. As far as me questioning his judgment, why don't you get off drydales nuts. I can question who I want.
So let me ask you guys this, a brown belt who has developed his own style of jiu-jitsu, who has been training all over the place with different coaches, goes to a gym and signs up, puts in the time on the mat, shows up to each practice, drills, rolls, spars, taps people out, does competitions, wins, helps the instructor teach and puts in his own teaching time. However during this time, his style does not change to his last coaches style. Does this guy not deserve a black belt in the sport? Should he wait 10 years under one coach and just then and there when his style changed to the coaches he should get his belt?
As far as I know and I heard this many times from black belts who trained their own blackbelts, belt shows the time and effort you put in the sport more than anything else. It shows your willingness, heart, teaching, dedication... there are blackbelts out there that have never competed and could be easily crushed by many athletic brown belts, or never really roll with their coaches style, that does not mean they don't deserve their belts or ranks.
I don't know, I only know one black belt and not very well, but I know a brown and 4 purples. That said, every person that I've trained with that has a better rank than mine has taken things from their instructors, even from random people they've trained with. So their style may not necessarily change, but they learn things that they apply to their own game. It's absurd to think that people don't pick up on things. Instructors drill, so people learn things the instructor chooses to teach, whether they want to or not.
Well ofcourse many fighters do use their masters style, there is a select few who get to improves the sport and develop new techniques and even a smaller percentage of all fighters who make a big impact on the sport and come up with %100 original stuff, MG does that, Eddie did it, Gracie seniors (Anybody but rorion) etc...
