Ashi is where it's at!!

Did the seminar in Altus, Eddie focused on legs. He taught the path of Ashi. Finally got my first chance to use it live once we started to roll at my gym. In my first 5 minute round I nailed Ashi 8 times from multiple positions and on both sides to get the tap. Waiting on that heel to pop and finishing was very satisfying. I am very happy with the instant results. I can see and feel my sloppy technique but it was getting better and better. Love it. Can't wait to try it in a tournament. Sorry, just very pumped and excited to share. You know how it is lol

Never apologize for enthusiasm and love you have for your passions jiu-jitsu or otherwise. Even if some don't appreciate it, some people will and those are the people your love for the art might rub off on and inspire to become the next Marcelo Garcia. Enthusiasm and Love are some of the most powerful "Butterfly Effect" components in my opinion. Enjoy all your amazing ass-kicking with your ashi.

Jacob has also injected it into his game already. He started hitting it in live rolls between seminars. Glad you came out & learnt from the Masta:)

Just worked this posotion/technique today with Derek Stewart of 10P Omaha. Thanks again Derek! I have yet to hit class at my own school today but hopefully I have similar results and start hitting it right away.

Not bashing Ashi but I prefer to keep my inside foot on his hip or stomach to prevent him from coming up and grabbing my head or my arms. When i get to Ashi position i usually transfer to something else or Im usually in trouble as most good leg lockers will triangle their legs and slowly get to a sprawl off of this and take side or the back. Im going to have to play with it a little more and focus on some of the key details (like keeping the leg bent) but Ive never had any luck from this position. Any one else run into this issue??

Both Ashi and DOA are transitional spots for me. I much more prefer Cap Cowboy, honey hole, and game over.

Reps. Ashi and DOA are very strong and are great spots to kill from. The devil is in the details.

Since I'm just starting with these im just going to keep nailing Ashi, but if they roll it's straight to game over. Not sure I know what DOA is and I've only seen honey hole in a quick demo. Any videos of DOA or Honey hole?

Ashi's been a great reference point for all these footsie battles I've been having. The principle of going for the double inside leg position has simplified life a great deal in these positions, at least as far as defending goes but also for achieving ashi.

Quick footnote: I did get toeholded (toeholded? toe-held?) when I was in Ashi the other day. The guy slapped it on on the foot that was pushing against his hip. He effectively draped my foot across his hip and he finished the fight from there. Perhaps it was that my toes were exposed unnecessarily, but he made the most of it anyway. To be considered. But Ashi's the shit. I was just slow on the transition.

There is a slick toe hold from there on that foot thats on the hip. I call it the Miley Cyrus just but I dont know if theres already a name.

When they try to do that foot out, you can kick out to DOA. The same goes for the inner thigh heel hook. Grab the near side wrist and kick through.

Anytime anyone touches my feet from ashi I go DOA. Solid advice
