Getting lifted in rubber guard

Today I tried to use the rubber guard against a physically stronger opponent and everytime I got to New York he lifted me immediately and just stood there waiting for me to let go.

How can one counter this? I think I should have used my 'free leg' to make it harder to lift me, but I have never seen how to do it. Or are there some other options?

I try reach for the meathook to get off to the side a bit more, keep heavy on the zombied arm, help break his posture.

You'll get some better answers from guys with more RG experience but most issues that pop up with RG in my experience have been mostly sorted with the meathook.

Same with the triangle, underhook the leg, but in this case I would lock the shoulder and sweep

I prefer overhooking the leg with the new york arm rather than underhook. it gives slightly less control but I feel like it isnt needed and you get unhook it and grab new york again a lot quicker.

Pull the overhook tight as well, since this will unbalance them and make them sit down again. and be prepared to get into chilldog the moment they come back down.

putting pressure on their thigh with the free leg might stop them as well. and of course being more to one side will stop a lot of people unless you're tiny and they're big.

You gotta hook the leg with your free arm as soon as they go to lift you. They should never be able to pick you up

Yes he was bigger and strong.

Putting pressure on their tight is the most easy solution, so i will try it for sure. Being more on one side is also something I should do. I tried do it when he was lifting me, but I should be more on one side earlier.

And all of your points seem very logical. Brent and others also mention to hook the leg, which will be my next step. But I have to give up New York for that, so before going to chilldog I have to get New York back and he would probably again try to lift me as soon as possible also, so I don't know how that works out.

Brent (or others) you say I should hook the leg, but what would you do after hooking the leg?

In this case, meathook is extremely useful. because you can keep some kind of control over the zombied arm and release the hand/arm you use in mission control to grab the leg.

but new york by itself is meant to be open enough to offer that freedom of movement. if he is lifting you up then he will be wrapping his zombied arm around you, not pulling it free (generalisation) you should have enough time to recover new york when he falls back down.

Also be aware that sometimes releasing RG is the best thing to do. thai clinch him, release rubber guard and sprawl him so you can work from turtle.

You may be giving up hugging your knee to stop the lift but I would much rather try to get the hand back to the mat than have to completely abandon rubber guard because he picked you up. Honestly there's only so many times he'll try to pick you up in a roll because it will just tired himself out. Not only is he trying to pick you up but he is then trying to lift his own weight when you hook that leg. I guess if he's strong this won't affect him. Something to try is, when he goes to lift you hook the leg with your free arm then swing the leg that is on the hip in a wide circle up to crackhead (Croc). Depending on how his arm pops through you can hit an arm bar or dead orchard. If his arm does pop through you have a solid position in your crackhead control.

Overhook and the free leg. Mainly, getting off center with his spine. He has to be lined up parallel with you to be able to pick you up. He won't have the ability or strength to do so if you have an angle, so always keep your angles.

Yea croc is a good option when anyone goes to pick you up because they have taken away any of their ability to flare their elbows out and protect it. Especially if they lean forward first when going to pick you up, not as good if they are leaning back to load you on their hips for the pickup.

Have that outside hook ready in the back of your mind, like how you are ready to jump on free new yorks.
