1. The 50/50 is essentially attacking and defending the inside heel hook.
2. Learn to recognize, attack, and defend inside and outside heel hooks.
3. Avoid 50/50
4. If you initiate a guard, make sure the odds are in your favor. Learn and understand the entry and hierarchy of leg entanglement.
5. The above knowledge will help you if you find yourself in 50/50.
1. Protect your feet.
2. Break open their feet
3. A. Attack inside heel hook
B. Pass opponents entangled leg to other side of your body (DOA) and attack belly down heel hook or Sailor Jerry to Honey Hole.
Those are the steps I go to.
Invest in Ryan Halls 50/50 DVD,
1. Triangle my legs but be aware to hide your heel, if you triangle too deep and your heel is sticking out it makes it easier for them to get the leg lace submisison.
2. Get on my inside hip and move my legs out to the side away from them and start to seperate their feet with my elbow.
3. If they are really good at hand fighting and leaning into me there is an armbar from there I land a lot. All you do is throw the outside leg over.
4. If I do separate the legs I always attack the inverted heel hook. I put pressure down on the shin with the back of my forearm with the top arm when I rotate.
Hope this helps it would be easier to show than explain but this should point you in the right direction.
Step one: defense. If you don't step one defend, you're the one tapping.
Step two, watch this video. Lol.

Step 3: win.
Not gonna brag about my success with this, but best believe, if Zog is teaching it, it's money. And from my experience, it really is.
Yeah, I'd get rid of your step on there. I seldom triangle at all from 50/50 because anyone that plays it is good at attacking that and you lock yourself into the position. I like to try to clear my knee out before countering but ton's of people have different go to's like they do for there reaction to any guard/position. Look at some of what was posted here and see if any will fit for you.
I'm with Rosado on this one. Good stuff here from Zog.
Visit 10th Planet Gulf Shores and give your legs to Sean Applegate for a few hours.
I follow Zog's principles as well and have for a while. Seems to be pretty solid. Keeps me safe. If you follow this it is no longer 50/50,more like 51/49.
