I think gone are the days where places are outright not "10p friendly". There's nary a gym I visit where there isn't a positive 10p vibe in some regard. People have respect for the 10p system now, more than they used to. There may be some residual feelings here or there, as a whole most everybody has seen Eddie v. Royler II and Geo vs. Eddie Cummings by now. Times are changing. I'm sure most, if not all gyms in Ft. Lauderdale would not turn you away.
Florida is pretty much stuck 15 years in the past on most things. I think its some kind of time vortex caused by all the old people constantly coming here and living here in charge of things. South Florida isnt too bad, but Florida gonna FloridaQuote:

It's a weak argument and becoming obsolete with the success that 10p is having. Approach them the right way, and these schools will stay in the minority and continue to shrink in number. If you travel to a different country, you wouldn't say "This is how we do things in America, so that's how I'm gonna do it." If you're smart, you'll respect and observe the laws and customs of that nation. There should be no academy off limits to you if you approach them in a tactful manner.Quote:

You're not going to find much in the way of 10P system instruction, but there are a ton of solid places to drop in while you're in town. I know couple guys over at Moncaio Brothers in downtown FTL, that's a solid school. If you're not averse to driving 20 minutes, BTT in Boca Raton is great. That is where my wife and I trained before moving to NY. They have nogi classes/open mats 2 or 3 days a week.

Come visit me up in Jacksonville, I have two schools now, 10th Planet Orange Park and 10th Planet Atlantic Beach and yes, Fla, in many ways has been stuck in the stone ages, but we basically flipped the establishment on its head here and now every gym has memebers who stop by our schools periodically and get down with legs and no gi, the main thing a year ago was people still clinging to the Gi as the ultimate training tool but we have made so much progress even to the point where we are invited to other local schools open mats now and I've worked really hard to promote the "same team" Jiu jitsu vs the world mentality. But can't speak on south Florida, but we'll be there eventually, maybe not me but it'll happen one day.
