How to learn 10th Planet's system without a 10th Planet gym?

SO, you guys know how Brazil is, right? Thanks to BJJ mentality here we still have no 10th Planet school, which is very stupid.

I've been training BJJ for 11 years now. I'm a BTT brown belt, but all my training is traditional bjj, which means even after all that time I don't even know how to attack a fucking heel hook. You can imagine how stupid that felt when I visite 10th Planet Amsterdam to train with my brother Gustavo and saw kids with 2 weeks of jiu jitsu doing heel hooks better than me.


So I want to learn the system, but am alone. I'm teaching a no gi class where I train and I also have a private mat where I give private classes. I also use some 10P stuff I learned on my own, mainly the rubber guard and the truck.

My question would be: is there a method, curriculum or source material from where I can start learning the system? My plan is to practice it with my private students until I feel comfortable enough to teach at the class.

Hopefully this will help people here to open their mind about new stuff.

Sign up for the pro-membership of this site, and watch Mastering the System. Then work on mastering the 10th Planet Warms ups (which are both in MTS and on youtube). You can also pick up the books and DVD to use as reference material.

Mastering The Twister DVD gives a full breakdown of setups to the truck, an essential part of the arsenal. Highly recommended. The Advanced Rubber Guard book gives fine detail on the 10th planet guard and half guard game. Mastering the System episodes give the latest and greatest stuff. Between 108 episodes of it and counting, you'll find damn near everything within it. Once you get a feel for the positions, I would recommend finding the episodes titled "Studying Tape", in which you'll find Eddie sparring and his commentary with every roll. Sometimes it's helpful to watch it in action in addition to the positional breakdowns. The 'Studying Tape' episodes are some of my favorites.

I'm a Ronin from Germany. I'm studying MTS and different Instagram Channels, e.g. BMac, Sean Applegate, Scott Ross and many others, just like different 10P Youtube Channels while working one the 10th Planet Warmups. When the time has come where we feel confident with the warmups, we will work on the techniques from MTS :)

MTS, The books/dvds, ask questions on here if you're having issues. Traveling to train with high level 10p guys. Trial and error!

I'm in the same boat, trying to learn on my own. Just reading the books and watching videos.

I would start a 10PJJ Fundamentals class if you can. Working on the warm ups as a lesson. Then you can branch into a more advanced class when you are ready to execute more of the system. I run a 2 hour 10th planet class and we spend the first 15 doing the warm ups and then the next 15 learning the next set. I drill a technique and escape for the following 30 and then focus on live sparring what they learned today. It seems to be working for my structure so far but may be something you can try there.

That's a good idea, however just make sure you don't call it "10th Planet fundamentals" or have it listed anywhere as "10th planet" (on websites, social media, flyers or schedules, etc.). I suggest just calling it No-GI fundamentals or warm ups.

We need a school in ny long island pleaseeee

It's just a nogi funanentals class right now. I'd like to work my way up to becoming a 10th planet affiliate.

Exactly! Plus, with how things are in Brazil, you won't have to worry about anyone "seeing" that you're doing 10P techniques. They are just nogi techniques.

MTS is probably the best value info asset wise. I'd pick up the Advanced Mastering the rubberguard book next and then the mastering the twister book (personal preference there only). Good luck!

What part of Brazil are you in? If youre in Sao Paulo, the guys at Alliance play heel hooks. When I was visiting Fabio Gurgel taught a slick sweep to honey hole(it was 2 days before ADCC though)! My gf Fabiana visits all the time and they're very welcoming of her!
