10th planet addiction... important safety information...keep it fresh...

Okay guys, so, my name is Mike Velotta, and I'm a 10th Planet-aholic. I have this addiction because, well, it seems I just can't get enough. It all started way back in 1996 when I first met Chris Brennen in California. He was training some dudes in his garage at our apartment complex on this crusty old carpet. Every day for a month I would walk by, all bad-ass-wanna-be'n it up, and finally one day I said fuck it.. what is this wrastlin shit. I walked in, laid my ego at the door, and said "Will you teach me?" He said yes, and the rest is history.
Now, what the big F does that have to do with 10th Planet? Well, Chris was the first guy who taught me that you don't have to wear a gi. He was all about the No-Gi. 100%. So much so that after he got his purple from the Gracie family down in Brazil, he took it off and pretty much never wore it again. (This is the same Chris Brennen that started the ever popular "NOGI" clothing company. Yeah, you wear the shorts, don't lie...) So, back to my story...
Chris taught me a lot. The first guy who ever tapped me out was Jeremy Williams, (yeah the IFL star that committed suicide a few years back. I sort of head butted him in his own guard, (not really on accident) and he choked the shit out of me for it.)
So, moving along... I joined the Army, trained under a bunch of other dudes, and then one day, I heard someone say "Eddie Bravo" with a hushed tone, like it was a big conspiracy to say his name.. like LORD VOLDEMORT in Harry Potter. So I youtubed him. No joke, the first video I ever saw of Eddie was the skit where Hassan "attacks" him at Legends. I searched further and further, and finally decided that this is what I needed. No gi, No frickin spider guard, no lapel chokes, no more looking like a lame ass baby jedi knight. This has been my path now for a long time. And now, with the site open, and all of you guys on here, I'm even more addicted. I teach my students every day almost. I'm in the gym every day almost. I'm on the forums every day just about. And, I'm proud to be addicted and part of the ever growing 10th Planet Family.

Yeah I do need to get back over there. You guys have an awesome place.. wish it was 30 minutes away and not 3 hours! This weekend I'm heading to SC, then next week I will make the time for sure. Can't wait to roll with you guys!

My girlfriend left me(she took the dog;(), my transmition just went out, I'm high right now, I'm respected by every student at local gyms but resented by the instructors, Ive had 7 broken bones 2 dislocations lcl tear and a torn nerve in the past 2 1/2 years leaving me all but broke. All of my friends wear rashguards or work clothes and normal people bore the shit out of me. If I don't train it feels like not taking a shower just nasty and eventually unbearable. My boss is gettin fed up with me coming to work either limping, limited to one hand, or looking like I was on the wrong side of a gang initiation. I refuse to get another girlfriend because I know that she likes the fact that I am so dedicated now, eventually she will want too much of my attention and either leave me or force me to leave her. I quit college during clinicals with a 3.8 because after 6 years I realize I hate hospitals. I've got all my chips in and it's either make it or die tryin. What mite be considered rock bottom to some feels like the top of the world to me because i've never bin closer to achieving something I really love and not what everyone else said I should achieve.

I am in the air force and my job is critically manned so I dont have time to go to PT, so 3 months ago I was looking for a chill workout 1 to 2 days a week and was looking online for MMA gyms and the one 10 miles up the road seemed to be more interested in making money. Thank God I found my 10thp gym in DE! Its a bit of a hike but Kevin is a great instructor and he has a no BS approach to training, after day 1 I was hooked! I now train as much as possible, 4+ days a week. My body hates me for it but I cant get enough of it!Life consists of work and jiu jitsu and I dont have any complaints!

I'm sorry. If your girlfriend doesn't want you to continue doing something you love, then she is selfish and has no respect for you. She's not worth it.

I had a fairly decent operation. Missed two trainings, got my stitches out. Ripped one of the wounds open rolling Wednesday (lots of blood) got more stitches Thursday, back at training tonight. The amount of bandages I go through per training, costs twice as much as the training. Im waiting on the steps of the gym at 5:20, no one else bar the instructor turns up till 6:00. Im the last to leave. I think I have the problem.

I dont give a shit though, I choked someone with my foot tonight!

Yep, from rubberguard and from mount. Found a use for my stupidly long legs. Only on a small guy, but its a start.

About two years ago a ton of granite fell on my right leg. Broke my tibia, crushed my foot. All the muscle wasted away and grew back flexible! So I have one flexible leg and one inflexible leg.

I had some metal work removed a few weeks ago, pretty much for grappling and Muay Thai as well as for work. I had a screw sticking out in my knee and my ankle and they got in the way.

Iv got a line of stitches down my right knee, and I had just had the first lot out. I bandaged the shit out of it, did some rolling and ended up in mount. I got a triangle from mount and I couldnt say no to it. I rolled with the guy and tore my knee open again. Back to square one.

F that man. Keep training. Find someone else. Some girls just want to control you. Yet they don't understand the importance of Martial Arts. Being a Martial Artist is different than just living life. Its purpose in life. My friend has a girlfriend who is so controlling. Won't let him come do Kickboxing, or Roll Jiu Jitsu. Is a total control freak. Most young relationships do end these days and when she leaves him for some idiot he will have nothing. But if he trains now and truely expresses himself he will always have something to fall back on. Training is where you communicate with your inner self. People don't know us. They see us work everyday, go to the store, go to school, but they don't know who we really are. When I step on the mat thats who I really am. No ego, no attitude. Just humility and the feeling of having accomplished something. That my friend is what everyone needs.

Well what the hell do you expect when he says you want to leave him because he trains a lot for Jiu Jitsu. You're his girlfriend, not his wife. He can do whatever the hell he wants with his life. I have an ex girlfriend who had a real problem with me doing Muay Thai. Wasnt even concerned about me getting hurt. Just "didnt like fighting". Note she is now EX girlfriend. I ditched her and found one who liked who I was instead of one trying to make me how she wanted me to be. Like it or not, you either support the things the other person loves, or cease to be one of them.

I lived in Utah while I was in the military, started training there under numerous coaches, and hated wearing a gi, but did it because I loved training. Only within the last few months have I heard about 10th planet, and since totally become a 10th planeta'holic. I get on as much as I can and study and look at improving my game as much as possible, and I cant get over how much I love not wearing a gi. I dont really get to train with anyone here in Houston who is 10th planet affiliated, but I hope to change that soon.
