Well i just got given the TALK

The talk consisting of "all you every do it jiujitsu you come home you go to the gym
or you come home and read about jiujitsu or your online line talking about jiujitsu i cant even watch a movie with out you going oh shit did you see that choke what was that (i watched inception Ari calls in the thread the needle choke im calling it the inception choke sounds cooler ) is it a bad thing i devote a large amount of my time to jiujitsu some thing that makes me feel alive some thing that makes me feel higher then any drug ever has (did have some good weed the other night but ) all to settle down in a normal 9 to 5 and start looking at getting married all for what being accepted by a bunch of people i have never met if any body else has had these problems what did you do hit

Dude you have the jits bug and it does not go away. Many of us are the same way and our significant others must accept that as part of us. Just how it is.

I too noticed the inception choke......And it made me like the movie even more.......Plus I like the idea that you could possibly choke someone out in 5 dreams at once! ;-P

To answer your question.....Sounds like you should buy her a "Rapist don't box, They wrestle" T for Christmas I think she was dropping hints ;)

Be yourself and all else is incidental. This really isn't about jiujitsu, it's about her neediness and her insecurities. The sad part is that if you try to engross yourself and excel at anything she will be there to constantly drag you back. She essentially will not support anything you do unless she is at the center of it.

Just do what you do and people will either come along or get left behind.

When she leaves you, you'll still have us.

damn that sucks. My girlfriend has yet to say anything bad about my training schedule but I know she gets upset when I tell her I have to go train before we hang out even if she acts like its not a big deal. I tried to get her involve, but the most she will do is just hang out at the gym while I train.

AJ just described my EX-girlfriend. He is 100% right.

my gf sometimes can be a lil negative but shes starting to come around.....for me i just need to stress the plessure i get from jiu jitsu and how much i care about it. It took a while but now shell even watch UFC fights with me. i dont know how long you have been with her and im sure it upsets you for her not to be supportive. For me im a little over 2 years with her so when it gets serious it all comes down to give and take...

Don't get married it will only get worse! because marrage and kids just give girls like this more leverage to through there weight around. it's easy for chicks to " act cool " but once they have you were they want you. then you see the real them, your best bet is to get a chick who has her " Own Life " if not she will " syphin the life " out of yours. and you'll be one of those pathetic my wife wont let me dudes. if that happens just " Cut your nuts off " and give them to her

And now a voice from the female population. My husband is very supportive of all my martial arts training. Has been for years. I'm a lucky gal. I'm sure this chick would be giving him the same talk regardless if it was golf, or fantasy betting, etc. Better to find this out now rather than later.

AS Joey Karate would say, " Science " you should listen to Kelly L thats a femail confirming the truth, you have all the info, now you'll only have yourself to blame if you fall into the trap. Jiujitsu, part Martial Art, part life philosophy.

Im real lucky my other half is just as addicted as me, he has 3 Black Belts in different styles and has been teaching for around 23 years and training for about 28 years, plus he is totally hooked on the 10th Planet.....:-)

man lucky for me my wife is very supportive. we have a 8 month year old daughter and my wife is still willing to dish out $125 for private lessons a week. she says as long as im happy shes happy. =)

yeah, I get that talk once a week. 4 years later, shes still here ; )

Dammit sensei, always on the same thread I'm about to post on, lol. Yea, this a funny one, I had one of these GF's a few years ago and it's going to be the same across the board whether it's jiu-jitsu, football, poker, anything a guy wants to do to be in his own space and relax; there will be estrogen interference. Now, you have have the TALK with her and explain that this makes you happy and she should want to make you happy, so therefore she should support what you love so that you can love her just as much. Keep ur pimp hand half raised as you discuss this so she knows your serious. Also, this TALK seems to go beyond the relationship with you and your girl, seems like the married with children life is a huge life change you gotta be passionate about making. Being locked in the grid can be a bit of a hum drum existence (working long hours, trying to impress people you don't know, etc.), but when your in love and your kids are your motivation then I guess it's worth it. Anywho, this is all just opinions based on our experiences so keep a level head go with your gut. ;)

Compella - she got the talk it went some thing like look ive got some "hunter" dna in me i need to go with my boys and chill out and get rid of these "hunter" urges and to do that due to lack of woolly mammoths i got to either lift heavy things ,run a long distance or tap dudes out to sort these urges out please dont try and make me a "gatherer" i dont feel the need to be around abunch of people all the time making small talk nor do i need to be in a crowded shopping centre with more "gatherer's" gatherering more items that serve no real world purpose

Haha. My brother-in-law and I always catch heat from our gf's when we hang out because we talk about jiujitsu, mma, fighting, etc. It's like we get put on Jiu jitsu "time-out."

Well, before you dismiss what she is saying, you should give it a little thought.

Did she know you before you got into Jui-jitsu? Is is possible that you are devoting too much of our time towards jui-jitsu at the expense of other things?

I enjoy jui-jitsu too, I also enjoy playing poker, and I like playing video games, but at the same time, I have to make sure that I'm taking care of other things in my life like my career and my family. Too much of anything can be a bad thing.

Just think about it and make sure that you have a balance in your life that is sustainable.

my GF actually broke up with me before i went on my trip to Africa here a few weeks back.
the funny part? SHE STILL CAME WITH ME.
she was upset because i kept talking about JJ and how I couldnt wait to fly the patch at the top.
she felt like I should be talking about how i wanted to take a picture with her at the top.

I hear it every day. My co-workers complain that all I talk about is training and on my free time at work I watch JJ videos, my roommates and friends complain that I never go out anymore because I am constantly at the gym or dont want to drink the night before I go to the gym. Luckily my new girlfriend likes watching me get choked out, so she has no problem sitting there for 1.5 to 4 hours 2-5 days a week :-D
