Who do u guys think should have won that fight?
gray definitely, the judges seem to have forgotten that something they are meant to judge on is octagon control, and gray had the centre nearly the entire fight, and was pushing forwards more of the time than frankie. they have to have a rematch or its just retarded :/
I had it as a 47-47 draw.
R1 Maynard 10-8
R2 Edgar 10-9
R3 Maynard 10-9
R4 Edgar 10-9
R5 Edgar 10-9
I'm with Chris, if not a draw I think Edgar got the better off the last 4 rounds. Control doesnt have anything to do with gettting hit in the face 7 times for each punch you throw
you got to take the strap from the champion Gray dominated the 1st but the rest of the fight was very even I lean towards Frankie he stuffed Grays takedowns and was more fluid with his strikes no doubt tho there needs to be a rematch sucks for Pettis
I scored it 10-7 Maynard, 10-9 Edgar, 10-9 Maynard, 10-9 Edgar, 10-9 Edgar... 46 Edgar 47 Maynard.
A 10-7 score is extremely rare so I can accept a 47-47 draw, def not 48-46 Edgar as one judge scored it. Props to Frank Edgar for coming back like he did.
I had the last round scored 10-10 and and the first 10-8 giving gray the nod. A draw sucks more then a controversial decision imo, theres no winner at all.
They should have done like the ultimate fighter show where in case of a tie for the title match there is 1 more round.
well frankie edgar lander more punches and kicks than maynard in evrey round except the 1st and frankie had an incredible slam/takedown in the second round he pretty much stuffed all of maynards takedowns took maynard down easly for the most part and i belive and he had 2 good submission attempts....i scored the fight...round 1-10-8 for maynard(gray dident dominate the whole round only the first half therfore he dosent get a 10-7)...round 2-10-9 for edgar..round 3-draw...round 4-10-9 for edgar...round 5-gonna have to go with 10-9 for edgar...so the winner based on how i scored the fight and the fight stats...FRANKIE EDGAR
47-47 was the only fair ruling. Octagon control is only 1 part of the game. Maynard Earned a 10-8 first round, but didn't deserve to take the belt from Frankie. He tried ko'ing him. Didn't work. Tried taking him down, didn't work. I hope both guys earned the respect they deserved. And you can only score round 3 a draw if one of them had a point deducted. If I had it my way, No rematch. Maynard had his shot and the best he could do was draw with a featherweight. I say Edgar vs Pettis next, and Maynard vs Henderson for the next title shot. and Then George.
i think next we should have edgar vs pettis and winner fights the winner of maynard vs george sotiroplos...i think the winner of edgar vs pettis will be edgar and the winner of gray maynard vs george sotiroplos will be maynard and than we could have edgar vs maynard again and pettis vs sotiroplos
and personally since the fight ended in a draw and it was a championship macth i think they should vacate the title so no one is champion and have an imediate remacth
wow no faith in Sots Emir??? Clay Guida is working his way up there soon to. Hes been looking very nice in his last few fights and i believe he should be getting a shot soon.
yeah i had no problem with that decision. I mean, i would have liked to see one of them win, but not just for the sake of having a winner. I think if they would have had chosen winner someone would have been screwed. But if i HAD to choose, i would say i would understand Edgar winning b4 maynard. but i had it 47-47
I had Edgar winning but could understand the draw. That third round could have went to Maynard.... but the judge that had Maynard winning.... No Way! Maynard wasn't throwing more than two punches at a time while Edgar pretty much gave him a boxing lesson. He was landing 1-2-3.... 1-2 uppercut 3..... All night son. Edgar won in my book off takedowns and clean effective punching.
Crayon
I had it,
1. 10-7 Maynard
2. 10-9 Edgar
3. 10-9 Maynard
4. 10-9 Edgar
5. 10-9 Edgar
So it's 47-46 Maynard for me
But like others have said the chances of someone being given a 10-7 round is slim to none so if round 1 was more realistically going to be 10-8 so thats makes it a draw 47-47.
Well if that's what you think a 10-7 round looks like, what does a 10-6 or 10-5 look like ?
I, and 3 others I was watching with had it as a draw. There just isn't any historical precedence for 10-7 rounds...or I would of called it for grey.
But I'll tell you what - if that wasn't a 10-7 round, then we will never see a 10-7 round w/ the current set of uniform rules.
maynard split decision. u blasted frankie in the 1st round.
i have faith in sotiropilos i think hes in the top 5 ligtweights but i dont think he would be frankie or gray
Frankie was still on his feet by the end of the first and throwing combos still. 10-8 is fair, 10-7 isn't warranted.
^^exactly
Or finish the fight... But yeah, it's a good point. And if it's a 3 rounder all he can hope to do is tie or finish.
I want Maynard to fight Henderson before he gets a rematch. He had 25 minutes to finish a guy he's already beat who's over 20 pounds lighter.
i agree. i think automatic rematches are really inefficient. if the winner ends up losing the next fight it ends up being a waste.
have the two of them fight contenders and the two best will truly prevail. if they both win again THEN the fans should see it settled. plus there is much more to gain in terms of hype and excitement from a new matchup for a main event rather than a rematch regardless of how much dana will guarantee a duplicated great fight.
According to Dana, the rematch is happening next.
After surviving that first round, I saw Edgar land more solid combinations than Maynard in all four rounds. And he was able to get multiple takedowns while stuffing most of Maynards takedown attempts. That being said, I was taken by the fact that Edgar was able to recover so everything he did looked incredible. I can totally see that fight going either way, that's why I now agree with the draw... ANYWAY even though a rematch would be cool, I wanna see Anthony "Showtime" Pettis take that fucking belt.
i think it was an amazing fight, i had it either for Frankie...or a Draw.
This immediate rematch thing is getting old. I want to see OTHER fights, not the continuation of the same thing over and over...
its like Shamrock Vs Tito or Chuck vs Tito... its the same thing OVER and OVER, GOOD GOD WE GET THE POINT!
the point is, in my head, Gray DIDNT take the belt. move on.
it was close. leave it at that, and give Showtime his chance.
I hope he puts the rematch on SPIKE. Unless it's a co-main event I don't feel like paying much for this again.
