Failed Arm Crush to Knee Bar from the Spiderweb

Ok, I know in the Arm Crush Technique, you are supposed to figure four the legs and lock it behind his head, but its a little difficult for me, and sometimes as I bring my leg across to execute the arm crush, my forearm slips so my hook under his arm isnt that deep. So I came up with this while rolling, and I'd like to know what you think. Video Responses would be greatly appreciated, but im sure yall are way too busy for that, especially the guys at submissions 101. However, any feedback at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

I think I would have to see it live. It seems like it is a little clunky still. I will play with it live in my next practice and follow up with you.

Rigan Machado showed us a similar tech at his seminar so if he says its valid its legit, BUT, I'd say its more important to get your spiderweb down, like getting your deep hook deeper, elbow to elbow reaching for your own waist and keeping it that deep. I have been in trouble in the past for attempting to reinvent the wheel and come up with new stuff, before actually getting what techniques I have learned, down solid. So same advice I've been given, make sure what techniques you have been taught/you have seen, you have down solid. That will take you a lot further than trying to make up new stuff.

I have no formal experience in all honesty, but it seems like sometimes it just starts to slide out if they see it coming and pull to their waist and back, and thats when i go for the crush but its a little late, so i attack the leg.

seems like a good technique to have in your game, but I would never give up the spiderweb to go for a knee bar after trying just one submission for there. since you have like an entire arsenal from the spiderweb

Kevin has spelled the correct! From your video, I can see your not getting a "deep" hook at all.... Work on trying to grab your right back pocket ;) or at leats the right hip... Then you have a deep hook! Try that out and let us know how it changes your percentages.

I didnt go deep because my partner wasnt fighting it like hes supposed to, he was letting me crush it, whereas in reality he would be fighting and pushing his arms upward and toward his waist, unless im mistaken, so i was simulating it as best i could. And it can be from any position, i just happened to film it from the armcrush.

Whether your partner is resisting or not, YOU should always practice proper tech... Alsways tight, always deep, always with control and base... ALWAYS!!! If you rep something a thousand times the wrong way, then you will be a master at doing it "wrong". Practice does not make perfect... Perfect practice makes perfect tech :) hope that helps

Some flaws in the technique as mentioned above and you make yourself vulnerable to getting foot locked yourself. But if you work on proper technique it's a nice option (as a last resort) to have.

I like this. I will try to surprise some people with this.

We've got some serious leg lock monsters out here; I'm not one of them yet but I'm definitely learning how to stay in the game with them. I can say that there's nothing I'm seeing in the transition (as shown at least) to prevent him from sitting up and cross-facing to stuff the knee bar. Now you went from Spiderweb to him on top in side control. I could see this working better from a failed one-arm armbar like Eddie sometimes does from Spiderweb (sometimes Eddie keeps control of the legs with one arm and finishes the armbar solely with the deep hook arm). In that case, you're maintaining control of his legs, you go for the armbar, it's not working, you can keep control of both his arm and leg as you transition your legs for a knee bar. That's speculation on my part though. I'm not there yet when it comes to setting up leg locks. I suppose there's probably a way to get to Russian Cowboy from Spiderweb.

If I'm not mistaken, there was a post with someone performing this off the chambers lock which is an arm crush going with the outside leg over the arm. Maybe that would help you out a little.

I suck at knee bars so for me it would prolly not be practical :P but if you have a mean KB then I dont see why not.

Tryed it with an opponent struggling against it tho ? cause it seems that when you go for it you leave one foot high for a lil while so he could hook that foot up and go for a lock himself.

I sometimes go for heels and calf cranks as a defence against knee bars myself if I can sit up some an grab a foot.

I think there is a lot of techniques and positions that will work and can become practical if you put the time in fine tuning it. Do a youtube search for it and see if theres some things that work for you. The big thing is that your transition is way loose, I understand you were showing it but try to find a way to tighten it up.

everyone has said deep hook. some of the best advice you got on here is "practice everything with proper technique.." also your feet should be crossed under his shoulder. and the foot closest to his head on bottom. if you had that deep hook in, you wouldnt have to try to bring your foot straight up for the crush. you would be able to swivel your positioning and swing that foot over his arms.

I'm not entirely sure that you would necessarily want to set something like this up. If you think of it as a knee bar from a failed spiderweb (as opposed to arm crush), then I think you may have something. Seems to me like a "uh oh, I'm going to lose the deep hook, what can I salvage from this?" type of move to me.

It is a great option and it works great if you are good at knee bars. It was shown to me by Tristian Connelly from 10th planet victoria (submissions 101). I use it when I feel like mixing it up, or just feel like a knee bar.

1. Keep your deep hook
2. bring your right leg up and stick your butterfly hook in close to groin
3. Abandon the hook and swing other leg between his legs behind butt, leaving your butterfly hook in place for leaverage
4. Use it on newbs until you get good at it.

Man, so many better options to master before thinking of this imo. Proper armcrush, d-bag, x-break, silverado, thread to triangle. Knee bars are easier to defend than all of these,

I agree that practicing proper tech above all else is key to MTS but as a man who likes to transition to a leg attack I love it.
I'll be trying it next time I stuff my hook up from the Spider-Web.

I agree with the first part, though personally I like grabbing legs.


I think I remember Rigan showing a toe hold off of spider web, which is a smoother transition than straight to the knee bar, and then a series of counters and re counters involving various leg locks and the boston crab.

Thats what i was thinking TBH, I mean it can be used pretty much anywhere in the spiderweb, but i noticed it from the arm crush so i wanted to hurry up and tape it so i could get it to yall and get some feedback.

Anyhow, nothing wrong with mixing it up, your game is your game. There are basics that should be learned, but if you want to spend time mastering this go for it. Eddie spent alot of time with the twister when I am sure some thought he should stop messing around with that crazy submission.

Point is what you add to the flavor of your game is what makes it unique and unpredictable, 10th planet in its own right already is, but not to fellow 10th planet practitioners.
