New IBJJF Bullshit!

So, now that I got all the confusion out of the way and a full understanding of the IBJJF's processes for membership for Black Belts, I pissed (Mad/Angry! Not Drunk)! So, in order for any black belts to compete in any IBJJF tournament, they must be an IBJJF member (Not a bad idea. It at least legitimizes Black Belts!). However, membership must be signed by a certified IBJJF Black Belt who is a 2nd Degree Black Belt or Higher. In order to become certified, there is an application process + a $400 fee for the certification. Not many Black Belts out there have that certification as it is, nor will a lot get it due to the $400. So, now until my instructor get's his done, I can't compete in any IBJJF tournaments such as Pan-Ams Gi & No-Gi, Worlds Gi & No-Gi, American Nationals Gi & No-Gi, and any of the Opens. Again, not a bad idea. Just Bullshit that they make the process so expensive and difficult! Just wanted to vent. Very annoyed with the IBJJF!

It's a good thing Master Eddie got his 2nd degree. That would suck if the top 10PJJ guys couldn't compete at the Pan Ams or something. The prices are pretty ridiculous though. I guess the recession hit the IBJJF pretty hard...

the ibjjf is a joke. carlos gracie jr doesn't care about elevating the sport of bjj. he only cares about elevating his bank account. the sad part is, people are still willing to hand over their money to carlinhos, just to get a shot at being a "(blue belt) world champion (of long beach)".

*a couple of years ago, vinny "pezao" magalhaes posted a thread on mma.tv (the ug) slamming the ibjjf because of their exorbitant fees and lame ass "championships".

That sounds pretty weak for sure.

Thats why the IBJFF events have the lowest attendance on the east coast. We get better competition and more matches in GQ and NAGA. Cheaper too...

The rules should be set up to stop sandbaggers, if a guy wants to lie and fight higher up and get mumped thats different than fighting lower caliber guys who want to test themselves and not get hurt by higher caliber people. In Ontario they had been talking at one point of not accepting us as BJJ, but the argument was made that Eddie is a BJJ black belt and to let his coloured guys not be recognized would mean they would be encouraging us to fight as white .... would have mad e great high light real :) rules should be made for safety, not to protect your art from outsiders beating you at your own game ( not saying guys fighting black that arent would win but if they did it would bring question to the which is better, which is why even the nay sayers accept PJJ here in Ontario anyways because if we beat them at "thier" sport with something they didnt consider theirs then ....)

I believe there is more to this rule. Like to be a recognized black belt you have to pay dues for so many years ($*yrs), and your school has to be a member($).

Dolla dolla bill thats what it's all about.

They might actually end up making less money with that rule considering how many people it's going to deter from going to their tournaments. idiots.

Oh, your a black belt? Well then you owe me 400 dollars.

I wonder the same thing. They will if JJ Machado signs off on their Membership Apps or Eddie would have to register with the IBJJF and get certified and that cost is $400. It's all in Chapter 4 of their grading guidelines. It's such BS! I was planning on competing a lot this year. Especially with all the Open's that they have scheduled all over the country, but now, that looks very dismal!

how does the ibjjf justify charging $400? i would really like to know.

Are there any major differences in Naga Novice and GQ Novice division rules?

I wonder if the new rules are meant to keep competitiors like Josh Barnett, who won the No-Gi Words, out of the tournament.

That is so stupid having to pay that money as if should be cheaper for balck belts out of commitment to the sport..! Well naga is a good event as well as gq and others, but dont think that kip kollar doesnt make money off things such as a sword that cost 9 dollars and sell it for 40 after you place 1st that b.s as i should be free? More matches at naga if u lose ur out same as no gi worlds? Way to many sandbaggers in naga as that so called ranked.com b.s. lol if you look at ranked.com on line is has nothing...maybe one or 2 guys ..jk Case in point right here my freind did gi novice master divison since he only done bjj for 3 months,but lost to a guy who been trianing bjj and mma for 10 years as he never gets belted at his school bc mma school?
