get an arm through under his armpit or push him with both hands down off of you.
maybe...........
get one hand on their hip and the other hand on their shoulder, push them down your body to free up your torso
Grab the head, give up mount, shrimp to half guard during the transition.
Lay and Pray
Tap!
This one's worked for me a couple of times:
Shrimp like a muthafucker and use your arms to get him down towards your hips and off your chest/shoulder. Once he's off your chest you can crossface from the back with your left arm, S-grip or gable lock your hands (I've found the sweep to actually be a little easier with an S-grip. I don't know why though) and sweep him over to your right. It's not a high-percentage sweep and once a guy knows you can hit it it's pretty easy to prevent but it's an available option. You risk giving him your left arm by trying to crossface and if he's not down by your hips and/or has really good base in TSC he can take the arm without much trouble. You're also risking giving him the grapevine while you're shrimping so be mindful of your legs. Don't let him lace those up. Make sure you have taken as much pressure off of your torso as possible before sweeping and move fast before he gets the chance to fishnet your legs or gets his hips back up. It's most successful for me when he's leaning back a bit already in TSC instead of keeping his bodyweight forward and across the chest.
Pummeling the arm and getting an underhook under the side which he is trying to pin with his elbow is huge. Hug the dbl unders while working your way up to ur knees, u should end up with side mount or a shot for a sgt. slaughter transition to the back ;)
One of a few I like is to get him low by my hips and slip my bottom leg under his bottom leg n take his bk.
Then put them in a twister. This is my favorite, but can be difficult against an experienced twister side player.Quote:

Thanks everyone, this gives me a lot to work on.
Im not sure if this is the "right" way to do it but its probably my most effective way ive found to get out of twister side control..
1. I will bridge and attempt to throw them over my head
2. When that doesnt work (which is about 95% of the time), I will bring my closest leg under them on the way down and get my hook in.
3. At the same time, if i see the opportunity i will "100%" there arm. (not sure if thats the best way to explain it.. but i will just hook there far arm with both hands) though if they stay leaning forward and keep tight, sometimes you wont be able to get it.. though 98% of the time i'll get it if i go for it right after i bridge.
4. once i have my leg hooked and the arm caught.. i just work to their back.
side note: If they keep the twister side-control high and tight like they are supposed to, it sometimes takes a little flexibility to get the leg under.. but no more than it takes to mount from twister side-control.
I combine many of the above. Always trying to hop under the knee given the opportunity. If not i push them down till I can stiff arm them with my far arm and use my near to post up and escape my near leg. They are usually turtled here and then its ford, dodge, or back. Probably what Jon and Kevin are talkin about minus the technique.
I'll usually either bridge or try to roll out to gain North-South. The latter being pretty risky if you don't time it right, but it can work wonders when you nail it
tickle the guy
I just started toying with Keith Owen's Thumb in the Armpit move. Kinda dirty, but it'll sometimes get their weight off your shoulder line for long enough to push him lower and shrimp like everyone is talking about. But I find that even without it, if I can just get on my side, I usually get a guard back. Often it is inverted 1/2 guard (you have the other leg trapped), but most people are not as strong there as in regular 1/2 guard, so you can usually either get the sweep or recover closed guard.
