How awsome of a bjj macth would this be?
Ridiculous.....that is all!
BANG!!!!!!! my mind just blew up
hahahahaha
Theres at least 20lbs of weight difference between them both. If eddie competes again, Id rather all things be equal and see him fight one of the top guys at his OWN weight. Not someone 10kg bigger than him.
Would be fun to watch but Id rather see eddie against one of his fellow featherweights
but honestly i hear eddies bottom game is on level with marcelo's top game it would be epic
its nice to dream lol
Eddie has the best bottom game in the world (in my opinion), hes invented more techniques from guard than most people will ever learn in their life.
But still, at the world class level, every pound of muscle matters and makes a big difference.
I'd rather see Eddie against the best in the world at his own weight.
Who would you say is the best in that weight class? My money says Rubens Charles or Rafael Mendes. I'd personally rather see the rematch between Eddie and Royler. That would probably be the most interesting match, right? If they're both in great shape it could go either way I think. Eddie's still considered by most to be the underdog in this match when in reality they're both probably about on the same level due to the difference in their styles. But that's just one man's opinion.
Royler in my opinion would be best. Does Leo Viera still compete? Unless he is retired or gone up a weight division, I'd rather see that rematch.
Other than royler gracie and leo viera, any of the top guys at that weight would be awesome. But a rematch vs royler or leo would be my first picks
I heard Leo retired while browsing some forums so it might be a rumor. It hasn't been verified from Leo himself to my knowledge. Rafael Mendes tapped Leo in ADCC 2009. The kid's was only 20 and he then went on to beat Rubens Charles to win the tournament. I think it's pretty safe to say that Rafael is the man to beat these days, but again that's just one man's opinion.
Royler is the man Eddie should beat though if you ask me. That rematched is hyped to the point where some serious cash and Jiu Jitsu exposure is going to made for sure.
I think any of those matches would be amazing, I'd love to see eddie fight any of them.
Got to wonder though how many times these threads have been done though. Asking who eddie should fight if he comes out of retirement.... the regular members must have seen hundreds of these kinds of threads
Agreed with Jon, Rafael Mendes is the one!
somehow i knew this was a whitebelt that started this thread
The next 10 years will be the Mendes brothers years.
lol danno i put down white belt but i dont even train with a gi...ive been training no gi for about 1 year and have won novice, begginer, and im gonna win intermediate this saturday (sorry conner gibbons) lol,and after that im going to expert
Leo still competes. Much moreso at no-gi than gi. You really only see Leo at ADCC, where he's still wrecking shit like always. He's kind of been a mentor to Rafael Mendes, who beat him with a RNC at ADCC 2009 to get to the finals against Cobrinha... so I don't know if Leo is gonna step aside in 2011 or get back on the white mats of ADCC.
I'd rather see Eddie fight Royler. Just because I have heard Leo isn't into doing superfights nowadays. Also, There are 3-5 people in the world right now at 65k that have a chance against Leo: Rani Yahya (obviously), Cobrinha, Rafa Mendes (Obviously), and possibly Ryan Hall. Possibly Jeff Glover as well. No one else at 65k has a game that is suited to beating Leo Vieira.
The formula to beat Leo Vieira has been established, and that formula involves taking his back. Only a few men, like Rani and Rafa have been able to do that. Ryan Hall came very close, and got Leo's back, but couldn't get that second hook in. He had a couple nice triangle attempts that looked a tad closer than they were, but he was able to prevent Leo from passing his guard. If he has continued to improve since 2009, which he has, he has a shot. He also didn't know about the Marcelotine before Leo subbed him with it, and now it's one of his best moves. I mentioned Jeff Glover because he's very good at taking the back.
Really watch the 65k division currently. Most of the submissions are coming from back control. It's a necessity to have a Jedi level back-take game to be elite at 65k/featherweight. Sure you see guillotines(Vieira), Darces(Cobrinha, Hall, Glover), triangles(everyone), and the occasional armlock or leglock but a majority of subs at that weight are the Mata Leao/RNC in no-gi.
On a random note, a lotta people don't know that Leo Vieira was doing advanced guillotine variations and North/South chokes even before Marcelo Garcia put them on the map.
I absolutely agree with the second part! That sucks if Leo doesn't come back for Abu Dhabi this year!
Mendes is absolutely the man to beat gi and no-gi! He was actually still 19 at ADCC 09. Cobrinha confirmed he will be on the white mats this year, so maybe we'll see a rematch of their epic finals battle of 2009? Maybe Mendes will finally sink that Anaconda choke! Mendes is seriously one of the most, strong, athletic, technical, yet creative payers of all time already! It's insane how good he is.
If Mendes is at ADCC 2011 I expect him to win the 65k division, every match by sub, except if he meets Cobrinha again. Which is likely, considering it would be retarded to not put them on opposite brackets.
I think Ryan Hall will medal again and surprise a lot of people. Be on the lookout for some crazy back-takes, mounted Darces, and guillotines. I'd love to see him face Jeff Glover again! That was the most slept-on match of ADCC 2011. That and Weidman/Galvao at 87k.
