my thoughts: primola is a black belt. he definitely didn't get there by accident. lots of time in the art, and he most likely has a great skill set.
that having been said, i'm not sure what he is trying to achieve with a lot of his videos. he appears to be trying to sell products and/or websites. but the attention to quality in most of his videos (production, instruction, preparation, etc...) doesn't seem to indicate that he wants to sell a lot of them.
this video in particular has a few good ideas (the armbar, using the free leg to fight his grip, etc...), but he doesn't take the time to flesh them out. also, his partner is using some pretty suspect grips/control on the free leg. and the calf crush battle that he advocates with his first defense doesn't seem to be a battle i would ever want to fight. he figure-4's his own leg and basically adds crushing power against his own calf.
i'm really in no place to criticize a black belt, so take what i say with a grain of salt.
ken, if you ever stumble onto this post by accident, take what i have to say as constructive criticism. i'm sure you have great stuff, and you clearly want to share that. i just feel like better preparation of what you are going to be filming would be very helpful in the presentation and would help us to digest it better.
What I don't like is that he didn't take the time to really look into the truck and the calf crank. The way Eddie has been teaching the calf crank was/is to push on the heel with your free leg not to triangle your legs which would obviously keep you away from being calf cranked. Not to mention how shitty the guy is controlling Primola's legs in the first place.
I got nothing against the dude it just annoys me to see sloppy setups being sold has what "the 10th planet guys are doing and that's how you defend it" type of videos
Erik Paulson did the same with the lockdown a while back with the guy on the bottom who had no double unders.
Get the proper setups then come up with something and then I'd be fine with whatever they have to offer that's all :)

Don, I am glad you figured out the correct way to perform the tech! As for Ken he harrassed me a good part of the day yesterday...
He put up a post saying that Nick Diaz had won 15 of his last 16 fights and avenged the one loss, so you have to give him the props he deserves. Then someone posts, Hey, I thought you were against weed smokers like Nick and eddie. To which he replied, Nick doesn't promote it like Eddie does, and he is in better shape than most people who don't smoke. Then another guy posts, The martial arts community would shit a brick shithouse if they knew how many of the top guys blaze. That's when I saw the posts and added; "Yes they would. I would think it safe to say about 95% of the top fighters in MMA and BJJ." Then Ken started spouting, Frankie Edgar-no, GSP- no, maybe once in a while, not a regular user, Anderson- same as GSP. Then I told him we weren't here to name names and throw people under the bus, but it was personal knowledge and not a guess ;) He then informed me he didn't like me and defriended me so as to end the debate. Then I see this posting, laugh and left some constructive criticism, telling him his videos make him look bad (white belt) and he should actually open his mind and learn the system before trying to dismantle it. He asked me what I had done in my community??? He is a BB under Phil Miglareis. And what had I won, He is a Pan Am Champ!!! What did he do wrong, cause he did it the exact way he had seen Eddie and Ari Bolden doing it. What am I doing wrong? To which I responded, Phil Is a hellu guy, and I know your a BB so I know you understand you can't learn from video the same as learning it from the instructor. Jared I know enough to write a best seller ;) But I would never break anyones trust in me. But what I can say is I know current and former UFC and StrikeForce Champions that do. I travel the world to train with the best. And this was a surprising side bit of knowledge learned. I personally don't think it's a big deal. But at the same time, I know it would unfortunately destroy some people to learn their idol smoked kind... That is what I find sad. Does it change who they are, or their accomplishments? I would just avoid that kind of jargon in the name of accuracy- You can just as easily say you associate with a large number of professionals fighters who smoke and avoid the sweeping assumption. Just my .02.
I will just say from a total noob perspective and a guy that looked a loooooong time before picking a spot to train. 10th Planet guys are the rockstars of BJJ right now. BJJ has become cool and no-gi systems are cool with the kids. There's no 100 buck gi to start with, the techniques have cool names, joe rogan promotes it....eddie is a cool guy and appears totally approachable. I would say the system is only 2nd to Gracie's.
People see this and hear their students talking about rubber guard or buying some 10th planet vids and so their ego gets in the way. What I love about my spot is all of the coaches have different thoughts on certain situations and show you the pluses and minuses...you know...like people who want to expand the art and not go on ego.
I can agree, as I don't know 100% of the top ten. But that would be my figure. I may be off, but not by much. Which is what I thought to be kind of crazy. All these elite athletes, had one thing in common. While some definately do not. The last time I trained with Sots he did not, as I'm sure there are others. But they seem to be the exception, not the standard. This is just an observation, nothing more. I believe each to their own, as long as they are not harming anyone. I have known this in the professional business world, but I was actually very surprised to learn of this in the professional athletic world.
