its private :(
its cool im sure she wrecks him, from what ive seen shes got some serious jits.
Sorry guys...i didnt realize this was going to be posted. I made it public. She actually loses the match but her wrestling is getting alot better. Its her first year ever wrestling so its been an adjustment but shes doing really well. Shes is also wrestling first year in High School in NJ and the wrestling here is no joke. Shes making progess...live and learn...
yeah shes sick, i would probably cry if she challenged me lol
i just wanna see Mr tight pants get taken out :D
hmm i would have been tempted when getting the back to sink in that choke , i saw the whistles blowing with concern heheh
yeah i think that rear naked choke is a muscle memory thing with her...lol...
she also wanted to slam him off of that takedown but was already warned in an earlier match and would of gotten disqualified. if it were mma she would not of ended up on the bottom...
okay im english so forgive me for not knowing the rule or scoring system with this. but how does someone throwing some random thing onto the mat mean that she loses the back and he gets it instead?
Great match Gabby! Was this junior varsity or varsity?
There's no shame in losing Gabby NJ is a pretty big wrestling state and you did good. You constantly pressured in the first period I couldn't watch after that but you looked great for your first year wrestling. If you're going to be wrestling guys when you tie up it would probably be good for you to hit the Greco club in the off season to learn something like the slide by or duck under which would help you use torque and leverage instead of trying to compete against their upper body strength!
She showed good technique for a first yr. don't forget foot sweeps in the tie up.
Awesome job.
that's one strong & tuff chick
Way to represent Gabby! You kick ass girl. Keep up the intensity and training! AWESOME!
He said this is out of NJ so most likely junior varsity.. I'd be surprised if it was varsity but it didn't look like it. For a first year wrestler it was definitely a good showing.. keep it up.
and you can slam people kinda sorta.. just as long as your knee hits the mat first :P
ooh and the stick is just for the ref to know the rounds over.
I don't know much about wrestling but it seemed like a pretty competitive match. Did he have Gabby in a twister variation towards the end? Are there subs in wrestling?
You would've totally tapped that dude. I've only pure wrestled once. And it was weird. So many rules.
some good shit!
I rolled with this blue belt gi girl the other day and i swear it was everything in my strength and advantage in weight to keep her from tapping me lol. i eventually got her in my guard (my speciality) and played with her but damn. some people know how to use everything but strength to roll. i use a bit of everything.
Go get 'em, sister! I just started wrestling a couple of months ago and Gabby is impressing the hell out of me!
awesome job gabby!!!
It was a JV tournament that her school was hosting. She actually won the first 2 matches and had 3 takedowns (and a pin) in those matches but I only recorded the one she lost (way to go dad)...lol. She had an opportunity to wrestle varsity 103 for a few weeks but didn't want to lose that much weight (shes like 110 now) so she wrestles either 112 or 119 for JV. Shes also only a sophomore. Her goal is to wrestle varsity next year and the year after. They were being kinda wierd about the slamming thing that day and she was already warned by the same ref in her earlier match...so she tried to do it Matrix style and ended up on her back.
I see a big difference in her jitz game now too...she never settles in turtle anymore and is constantly pressuring when on top. She is developing quite an unorthodox style by mixing the 2 together. Its pretty cool to see...cant wait for Grapplers Quest Beast of the East to watch it all come together in action.
Can't wait for the day she posts a video of her fighting MMA...vs a boy.
Ok bud it's not stupid it's just wrestling has alot different rules than BJJ. In wrestling you're going for a pin a match is structured into 3 periods. The first is nuetral both wrestlers on their fett. The second and third are both considered referee position with one wrestler starting in basically turtle position with the other having control with their upper body but their legs beside the down wrestler. In the second period they flip a a green and red coin giving the wrestler whos color comes up the choice of whether they want top, bottom, or nuetral. In the second period most people who win if smart will defer which means you give the other wrestler choice and in the third an final period when you know what you need to win the match you automatically get the choice which is what Gabby did.
Yeah it was definitely a good showing I wasn't trying to take anything away from her.. I'm sure if she keeps it up she'll be an exceptional wrestler in the coming years more so then she already is. Depending on goals.. there actually is plenty of opportunities for her to continue wrestling in college as well if she chooses too(film as many matches as you can :P). I have a few friends that wrestle/d at OK city who has been # 1 in womens wrestling for several years now and might be worth a look. They wouldn't recommend it though as far as the campus life/city and the schooling isn't going to be mind blowing.. but there are a ton of other schools to choose from if college wrestling is something she wants. If its not.. she can go somewhere else and join the schools club team if they have one to keep her skills sharp... of course that's years in the future.. but its still something to think about(when it comes to college sports.. its better to plan earlier then later imo.. I was in for a rude awakening and regretted not listening to my mom when it came to me(lacrosse.. spent a lot of time on the ground lol))
As far as jujitsu and wrestling.. they are totally different dynamics but man if you can blend them together your game is on a completely different level. Its good to hear that she is able to... I'm gonna remember this name :P
No subs in wrestling.. without going into a bunch of rules and making my post longer.. locking your hands is illegal in about half the positions(in folkstyle) and if you lock your hands around their head you need an arm or a leg.. the wrestler also has to be able to breath or the ref will stop it.. I didn't see a twister in the match but at the end he had her in a cradle and was going for a pin(it was impressive that she lasted through it :-)). You will however see a lot of twisters in high school wrestling.. you'd most likely see one a tournament if you kept track :P(maybe an exaggeration) .. because of the goal of the sport its much easier to accomplish(in wrestling its a guillotine inncase you didn't know.. I'm sure you can find videos on youtube of it being done in tournaments).
Thanks for the info Pourya!! I wish i could say that Gabby would definately be going to college but at this point her aspirations are in MMA and Hair and Make up School (I think that may be the first time those 2 professions have ever been put together in the same sentence...lmao). Other then her MMA and jitz shes actually a typical teenage girly girl, obsessed with boys, pocketbooks and drama...lol :) She definitaly wants to join a good local club team during the offseason...probably the same one the guy she has been flirting with on the team goes to :)
As far as her jitz goes I am really loving the blending of the styles...mason to twister...single legs to heal hooks...running the half to reverse triangle...just crazy shit...were playin with it in the gym and comin up with all sorts of goodies...
Idk if this has been posted here. But this was a highlight I saw awhile back of a high school wrestler who used a lot of jiu-jitsu/judo in his matches. Pretty cool I thought.

Hey also for Gabby you can't body triangle in wrestling but an actual triangle is legal in wrestling. I used to like to take the back then I would pull the triangle from the back and when you lock it up with shoes on its rediculously easy to keep! Then once you've got it locked in they usually freak out cuz they don't know whats going on so just keep rolling with them until they get tired then you just sit your but on the ground and scoot their shoulders to the mat. You can also pull the slow triangle from gangsta lean and once you lock it in all you gotta do is look at the ref lol
this girl is truely an inspiration , it makes me realize i got to put more in my training
awsome
Yeah thats the feeling I got from your earlier post when you said she wants to do mma.. if you want to do mma you gotta focus on mma. I was just putting some info out there in case things change in the future.
And you're right.. that is an impressive combination lol. Funny part is I also know someone that went to hair and makeup school.. haven't talked to them in quite some time though.. but last I heard she was doing quite well for herself. As far as off season it looks like shes going to enjoy that experience lol..
Strike him down quick!!! jkjk
