Bruce in his prime vs Penn right now. Who wins an mma match?
If Bruce was receiving the evolved MMA training that we have today, who knows? I'd definately give the speed advantage to Bruce. But if you took Bruce with his training from when he was alive and in his prime, vs a BJ Penn with modern training and put em in the cage, same weight class, well, Bruce would have simply been owned on the ground =(. And I'm a HUGE fan of Bruce Lee.
My opinion-Bruce Lee would kill Bj.He would be to fast and i think he would be the 1st guy to ko Bj.People are gunna say"yeah but this is mma ,bruce new nothing of the ground game".Watch the opening scene from Enter the dragon bruce makes a guy tap from a straight arm-bar.Game of death against the big guy at the end he applies an arm triangle.Bruce Lee new plenty about the ground game as he was well versed in judo. But Bj wouldn't be able to get near Bruce to take him down due to his amazing footwork and handspeed. In summing up Bj wouldn't be able to cope with Bruce's speed or power and Bruce would finish Bj.All theory of course we will never know but thats my take on it, i would love to see more opinions on this.
Who wins? Those corporate fat cats, they're who wins! They always fucking win!
lol.
But in all seriousness, I feel like we cant know this answer. Speed goes to Bruce Lee, of course. But BJ is a hero on the ground, and thats the truth.
All in all though, it just seems like this would be hard to call.
For example, I think a Velociraptor would destroy a Tiger, but who knows...
Bruce lee was a bad dude but I think the legend of Bruce lee is better then the real Bruce lee I think bj Penn would beat his ass.
P.s a velociraptor would tear up a tiger haha :)
Are you crazy he's a Thai Boxer!? Then I must show him...........................Jeet Kune Do!
Hi
We have all seen the evolution of mma from first UFC days where Royce destroyed all and sundry with his ground game, to todays well rounded fighters. The ground game is still an area where if you are unskilled and you meet a skilled roller, you gonna get hurt. But the stand up guy has shown, with good stand up, you dont get to ground. We all seen good rollers get knocked out! There is a difference between swinging wildly and landing luckily and GOOD SOLID STANDUP, and I think Mr Lee had that, so less chance of luck and more chance of well placed attack. Mr Penn, must surely though be fav. on ground.....Winner? whoever dominates their art wins, in my humble opinion. Thanks
Clem
bruce lee was a hollywood martial artiest. he would get killed.
Honestly Lee never fought. He was about self defense not fighting for points are in the ring. Joe Lewis said his style resembled that of Muay Thai before his death. Lee was concerned with Movies. You don't spend 12 hours a day on a movie set if you want to be a professional fighter. A guy 5 foot 7 125 pounds would have to rely on his speed (which he had) and strikes down the center line (which JKD believes in) . Lee was big on bill jee (finger jab to the eyes) , groin kicks and such.
OK As the resident JKD guy I have to put my two cents in. First off, it would never happen. BJ couldnt make weight as Bruce would be fighting at 145. Secondly, Bruce wouldnt just jump into MMA. He'd be a fan first. After seeing a few of the top guys fight, Bruce would not get involved until he felt comfortable with his ground game. He'd be at legends training with Eddie, at least until he gets a purple, and then he'd go pro. If BJ could make 145, it would be Bruce all day.
If any of you are a true Bruce Lee fan, you would have watched his interviews on how he is trying to create and perfect a hybrid style of fighting which incorporates, boxing, kicking, take downs from judo, submissions from jiu-jitsu etc... If Bruce Lee lived and BJ Penn was in the same area with him, Bruce Lee would be Rorion Gracie and Bj Penn would be his student. Bruce Lee was the first mixed martial artist.
BJ Penn vs Caol Uno. The first fight.
That's how I see Penn vs Lee in my head. The martial artist vs the mma fighter. With all due respect to Bruce Lee, I think BJ is a different animal and would finish the fight. Incorporating grappling into his style isn't the same as BJ's jiu-jitsu credentials and talents. And weight wouldn't be an issue. Even if BJ were to disagree, I still think he would dominate.
Also this comparison you guys are making is the same thing as who would win the battle between a 15th century footman and a U.S. Marine carrying an assault rifle. It is a stupid comparison. If you want to compare them to each other compare their dedication, how high they went in their given branch, how successful they were in their era. If BJ Penn lived when Bruce Lee lived which one would be more likely? Him being the same fighter he is today or a fish taco truck driver by the beaches of Hawaii?
Why is this starting to sound like a future episode for the "Deadliest Warrior"?
What weight class is the velociraptor?
Haha deadliest warrior is awsome.
BJ Penn WILL WIN , cause all those crazy yaaaaaaaaaa yuuuuuuuuuu oooooooo ching chan shit will not work on the ground . fake kung fu shit .
with no time to train jiu jitsu? bruce lee would kick ass if he had time to train mma he catchs on fast to things and would have been beast...
Penn wins with no training time
Lee wins with time training
You can't add additional training to Bruce Lee in this scenario. It's As Is. We can come up with a list of legitimate mixed martial artists who can dominate Bruce Lee in a mma cage fight.
