I have used it many times to set up takedowns. I stand southpaw or right lead forward even though im a right handed guy. Gary has taught us when fighting an orthodox left lead fighter, to use the straight blast as interception. So we do not lead off with it, we wait for the opponent to attack, we intercept and shear his punches as we push forward with a straight blast type of attack. Which usually leads to them running backwards into the cage. Then we change levels and clinch or get the takedown. Its important to intercept and not counter...or your timing will be off and he can shoot on you.
