Big Night of First Time Submissions!!!

Holy crap!!! I couldn't believe the night I had... It was almost un-real!!! After Studying the 10th Planet system informally for a year & a half, & formally since December, I am finally starting to smooth out the rough edges... Just tonight I landed my First Stoner Control with finished arm triangle, my first successful godfather to closed guard, my first straight jacket from the stock, & my first wheelchair from the truck!!! Now when I say "landed", I mean that I legitimately set these up (they were no accident) & succeeded in a live roll without forcing the technique or exerting too much energy... Granted the guys I rolled with were also other white belts & didn't have as much mat time as me but they have successfully stopped my attempts on these techniques before from my lack of drilling and strategy in my set-ups... My new goal is to start landing these techniques on experienced grapplers...

-Thank you Eddie Bravo for creating a system that thinks outside the box, giving us a place to share our love for 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu, and granting Alabama a legitimate 10th Planet Instructor...

-Thank you Bobby Rivers for getting me started on the 10th Planet Path & for continuing to help me with my game when our schedules don't conflict... You are hard on me, but you have a heart of gold & I can see that you care deeply about helping me and everyone you work with to get better... I respect you greatly!!!

-Thank you Scott Epstein, Denny Prokopos, & Sean Bollinger for the 10th Planet All Star DvD and for all the contributions you have made to the 10th Planet system...

- And most of all.. Thank you Brandon McCaghren (who I consider to be my instructor even though we live 5 1/2 hrs apart) for inspiring my attention to detail even further, helping me to not fear being put in a bad position, teaching me how to breathe (which has helped me most of all), as well as always being polite, kind, and encouraging... Also, thank you for being a friend and a cool ass dude to hang out with... I feel truly blessed to know you...

Maybe we should sticky a "I did something cool last night and Im too excited and have to tell someone" thread. I would be an active participant.

My flatmates look very unimpressed when I tell them about whatever I managed to make work at training. Even less impressed when I use one to demonstrate.

Good job, Sweetie!!! You really are looking better than you did when I first started. Your techniques are smoother and more fluid. I notice it even more when I roll with you.

The way you teach and drill really shows your passion for Jiu Jitsu. It's very inspiring. :)

I sympathize brotha. Nobody outside of the gym gives a flying fuck how excited I am to pull off something new and without demonstrating talking about it is useless. That's what the forum's for I guess! :)

I'm down with that idea Tim... Sharing our experiences & getting encouraging feedback from other JJ practitioners is a great way to stay motivated & work harder...

Nice!!! I haven't drilled that enough to make it work for me yet but it's on my to-do list...

Thanks Jon... I hit some Russian cowboy stuff tonight and I got it on tape!!! That was crazy cuz I wasn't even thinking about that transition, it was just there and it just happend!!! I'll try to post the vid tomorrow!!!

AWESOME bro! I love the RC series from TSC. We were doing some RC-like stuff from passing butterfly guard awhile back that's just killer. Gotta love those crazy Russian leg locks!

i know you are just messin around with that guy and stuff, but if you wanna start on your butt like that think about doing it without your legs so open and flat to the ground. i know when you are goofin off it is a temptation to just be super loose like that (which is OK for learning defense) but it is also good to practice having a really good open guard. and it looked like you were showing him paths to your back a little too much.

just my immediate thoughts. i think it's good that you are willing to throw your videos up for critique. shows a lot of humility.

Thank you Brandon... It always helps when I can get advice from my instructor who lives so far away and anyone else who would be so kind as to chime in... We don't have many 10th Planet guys down here so I need all the critique I can get from the people who deal with the system every day... I am gonna post some more vids in the next few days so please check them out & let me know what I should or shouldn't be doing...

Also, if you'll notice, I have my right toe taped up due to the fact that I broke my toe the night before & I didn't want it to get hit... That may be why my legs are spread so far apart... However, I have no excuse for how flat to the ground they are... Just bad technique I suppose... I'll definitely work on that!!
