I can't watch this. I can see them turning gay.
If you actually knew anything about the sport (and you clearly know nothing yet for some reason you are on this forum)...you would know that experience and technique will usually always prevail over strength. It has nothing to do with being 'gay'. if you actually tried the sport I can pretty much guarantee there are at least 3 girls (maybe more) in the system that would sub you without even breaking a sweat. but we wouldnt hold it against you ;) Or even call you gay...
Way to show a ton of heart out there shelby!! your like a human gumby doll!!
I think dude was joking....please God be joking...
Hes not joking...he has women issues...
good job ! i saw you guys there when i was roaming, didnt get to stay and watch all the other matches tho
Tapping out, is in all reality saying that you surrender because you know the other person could either kill you or do serious bodily harm to you. For a boy who is just hitting puberty, and has an impressionable mind this feeling at the hands of a girl could cause serious psychological damage. You are who you are because of two things. One is nature, your specific roll of the dice DNA. The other is the physical reality that you exist in, which causes a direct effect of the structure and function of your brain. I was being a bit sarcastic when I said a boy that lost to a girl at such a young age would turn gay. However, that being said I do believe it is enviable that it will have an effect on him.
Also, yes, yes, yes, I know there are many females that could tap me. However, I am a 28 year old man. I have already formed the basic essence of who I am as a person. I also do you say to guys wearing Jets hats, WTF man you don't play football? Can I not be a fan of the sport without training?
Good Stuff.
Being a fan and leaving normal comments are one thing...leaving sexist and degrading comments and being a jerk is another. If you would like me to leave a list of stupid comments you have left id be happy to but mostly everyone on here already knows your deal.
Again...shelby...you did great...proud of you kid...
The return of the troll.
What was the final score of all of those matches? How many advantages did she have? I saw a few sub attempts that kid had to defend to earn advantages. Another few months of training and she'll definitely be tapping dudes out. She's already transitioning pretty well. Nice job all round.
I was rooting for her especially when I saw him trying to bate her with the arm. It would have been sweet to see her arm-drag to the back and RNC him after he stuck his arm out. Teach him not to underestimate his opponent. At the very least he can't say it was easy winning over a girl.
The boy is a wrestler , he has pictures winning 1st in wrestlin tournament :) , she has has no take down (as you can tell :) ) i told her not to fall for the arm thang and prepare to get taken down..d you notice his escape from the front headlock , i told her in between the match that she has to transition right from that front to the back, and she did and it worked for her...She did a good job , just some rookie mistakes (like forgetting the seat belt for her omopalta)...but she was back at the gym on saturday working on her game...and 3rdeye, as far as her grappling boys, i have no problem with it, i know she can go out in the world and not be afraid of some rapist/bully/physcho throwing her to the ground..she would latch on and choke them out or snap a limb off.
I don't see the difference between losing to a man or woman. Either way should you lose it's because a technical error. Gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, it's sad how much hate there is. It's awesome how many incredibly technical girls I see at tournaments.
I'm not gonna pay you any mind anymore man...we all know your deal. This is about Shelby an the awesome job she did an the heart she displayed. I'm not givin you any more attention that you don't deserve.
Let me preface by admitting, I understand your argument and agree with your line of thought. The young, male mind is fragile.
Now I BELIEVE that Jiu-Jitsu COMMANDS a higher understanding!
It is all about cultivating the attitude that a Jiu-Jitsu Practitioner does not depend on gender. A person that studies Jiu-Jitsu is an opponent, competitor, training partner and above all else a "brother/sister in battle" (oss). There should be instilled, an impression that your opponent, no matter gender, should never be underestimated. It is the obligation of the teacher to ensure this. If a well intentioned, qualified teacher, can convey this message to a student prior to and upon a loss to a female competitor who still takes his own life then there should be an underlying mental issue to consider. Not everyone's mind is stable enough to take on the task of such a competitive sport.
Some of the greatest adversaries in history have been women. The sniper battle between Carlos Hathcock and The Apache being a recent one during the Vietnam war era. He eventually got the better of her but not before she she made her mark. The only reason he was ordered to hunted her down was because of her PROVEN ability.
"Never underestimate your opponent" is something every student should be forced to understand while being trained. It will ensure the ego is left at the door and that the student is of sound mind.
(authors note: I started my Jiu-Jitsu training at 30 years old, 200lbs, 5'10'', and in good shape. I was and still am a FDNY Fire Fighter. No one's bitch by any means! The first day I got my ass kicked by a 14 year old kid who had been training for a little over a year. Ego...checked! Nice job Tommy. Thank you for being one of my greatest teachers)
PS: I do feel that even though I understand your line of thought you present it with a slight...huh, bit of a douche bag tone. Just saying. I'll leave the comments about your pictorial rebuttals to everyone else that also thinks you're a dick.
great video! i had a lotta fun watching it, I felt like i was one of those guys behind the camera... I caught myself shouting at my screen, "don't sweep that way, sweep the other way! you've got his post! sweep now! not that way!!!" lol thanks for the upload.
Check my edit and my PS:

come on? The Joey Diaz one is kinda funny? I am just expressing my opinion. It just happens to have hit a nerve for some reason. I am not sure why. I know there were plenty of people on here who were upset over the boy in Iowa being forced to forfeit his shot at state because he was to face a girl.
You're not sure why? Really?
It's all about the presentation. Honestly, how pissed are you for me calling you a dick in a public forum? Doesn't seem like you really are. Presentation my friend. The argument (actual facts/intent) is 10% of the discussion. The other 90% is the presentation. Take a nasty shit and spray some Lysol it just smells like shit aaaaand roses. But at least it doesn't smell like all shit!
I can appreciate the bait and switch. You made a calculated and balanced sexist remark and once people took the bait, you started to articulate on how it was a valid argument but we both know you're just trolling and don't really give two shits about what you just said, especially a about "young males mind" (BTW the girl lost all the matches I think, so I'm pretty sure he'll be fine). Mission accomplished IMO. Well done sir.
On topic: How long has this girl been training?
That would have to be a pretty weak individual... I've been beaten by girls in both academics and sports as a kid and even now- pretty much all my life. When I would lose a race to a girl, it wasn't like I was crushed. When I lost to a girl I was upset because I lost, not because I have a inherit notion of physical superiority.
Everyone has lost battles. And if this kid can't bounce back from a loss just because it's from a girl, then he has some serious problems...
So I was there but i didnt stick around to see....why did she have to face the same guy 3 times in a row? Was there no one else in thier weight class ?
False. I stand by everything I have said, excluding things that were clearly a joke. There was no bait and switch going on. I am far from calculated, and I do truly give two shits about the impact on the young male mind. Well, maybe not on all young men but on ones that have moxie. We both know there is no difference "psychologically" between the impact of losing a wrestling match and losing a BJJ match. If we agree on one, there is no reason to disagree on the other. I believe those who do disagree with me are doing so simply because of one of three reasons. Either they are female, have a vested interest in the development of a young girl in BJJ "which there is nothing wrong with" or they saw that Eddie called me out and jumped on board, without thinking my brazen and somewhat sarcastic remark though.
Obvious troll is obvious. Great job Shelby!
DUDE!
Stop taking away from the battle that Shelby ensued by posting bullshit in a thread that clearly depicts her going the distance with not only a male but a fucking guy with wrestling experience!!!! Come on! How huge is that? Wrestling experience in a submission grappling tournie? It's immense! Especially at the lower levels. I'm a blue belt myself. I hate wrestlers when I'm on the mat.
Your argument about little douche-bag's egos (not saying the kid in the video was a douche-bag. He seemed like a talented opponent.) only solidifies the fact that kids who would consider harming themselves after a loss to a girl have deep seeded underlying issues already(pre-existing!!!).
Leave it alone and give her some fucking credit bro! Shelby...much respect! Keep kicking ass!
These were not points matches, submission or draw. and when there is a tie for first you keep rolling the 4 minute matches until there is a sub. :) Hope that clears up the whole points/subs thing dilemma. Maybe we could ignore 3rdeye and the pee hole stuff he is saying.
[QUOTE=IMO. Well done sir.
On topic: How long has this girl been training?[/QUOTE]
She has been training for a little over a year.. She does 3 martial arts (American Kenpo/MT/JJ) and she is choosing to take time off from her kenpo (doing it for 4 yrs and does very well in tournaments, especialy the sparring..again VS. guys) to concentrate on her 10th Planet JJ.. She always has diffuclty with the wrestlers, she is the only female in the JJ class so she is rolling with guys like Mike Dewitt & Nathan Wallner....so she is usually getting smashed...but she keeps going.. the guys all respect her and help her out anyway they can.. I think we're going to see her get crisper in the next few months when she trains full time JJ (6 days a week, her choice) ... PS - there was another girl in her division/weight class but she dropped out..so they went 3x , she lost the first 2 in the last few seconds and went to a draw on the 3rd
when i first got into martial arts, i took the attitude that "competing against a girl is a no-win situation... if you win, great you beat a girl, and if you lose, you just lost to a girl!" but then I live-rolled with a girl... I started off thinking in my head that I'm taking it easy on her... and then all the sudden i was swept. I quickly realized that I didn't have to take it easy because not only is this girl harder better stronger faster but she was also quite cute... Women in sports is a win-win.
"I believe all women should get rights but I don't think it should stop there! Give em rights! Give em lefts! Hell, throw an elbow! And when you've got her on the ground, be quick with that soccer-kick!"
