Weed Question!

Ok, I don't smoke very so I thought I would use this thread both as a testimony for Marijuana advocates & as a source of knowledge...


For many years I have had problems with this big know in my hand. It may be juvenile arthritis but I have never been properly diagnosed. Anyways, it's been acting up again and everything I have tried to do the past few weeks has made my hand feel as though there's a sharp-ass knife piercing straight through it! It has made it very hard on my training in that time. Well yesterday I figured I was due again for some relaxation & good times in observance of 4/20 day, so I went to my boy who gave my some stuff he calls "Pandora's Box". I took it and put it into a Gravity Bong & took to hits off of it. That stuff was FINE!!! I stayed high as batman's dry cleaning bill for hours! But when I started to unwind from my "experience" I noticed that my hand didn't hurt anymore. I am happy to report that it is now almost 24 hours later & I Joshua Smith being of sound & sober mind can tell you that my hand is still experiencing no pain whatsoever!


So my question is.... Why is this? What are some possibilities of reasons why cannabis would help inflammation related joint problems (no pun intended)?

Because some strains are anti-inflammatory

Its medicinal properties aren't bull shit.

I have arthritis, bone spurs, joint problems, and not to mention a shit load of injuries, it helps me tremendously.

Never underestimate the power of the placebo effect. But that's just a thought, I'm no doctor. :) Either way, glad you're no longer in pain!

Its not a placebo effect, tons of studys on its anti-inflammatory properties.

If your condition is arthritis this is one reference that may explain the effects.

Oh I know, it's absolutely got anti-inflammatory properties, but that wouldn't explain it lasting 24 hours would it? Maybe it lasts but I wouldn't think so. That's what I was referring to as the placebo part. I'm not as knowledgeable on the subject as you are though so I'd take your word for it.

remember, all strains are not created equal, so when you find one that works for whatever your intended "goal" is, stick with it or explore similar ones. for example, i like sugar candy sativa before i train but i'm still exploring different indicas for after i train and before bed. i'm not sure if you're in a state where you have this option, so don't be frustrated if you find other strains don't have the same effect you're describing. but if you have the cash on hand and find you've found one that hits the spot, so to speak, you might want to buy in bulk. i'm sure someone on here could tell you better than i how best to keep it fresh.

Weed makes me Panic.

I have a question, I head that there was a strain that was used by college kids which enhanced concentration and creativity, giving more of a "Head" high than mellowing out your whole body. Which strain is that? Sativa? Also Herzog, if you are reading this, which strain do u use for anti-inflammatory properties?

smoking weed doesn't give you lung cancer...

Some studies say it does. Some say it doesn't. Others are indecisive. Only through legalization and research will we know definitively. Humans are the last phase of any new drug research. As far as "modern" medicine is concerned...it's a new drug.

It does not cause lung cancer, ist actually is used to combat and kill cancer cells.

Sativas for a focused heady high. Indicas for body high. I used Sativa's for training and creativity. Indica's for pain and restlessnes.

As for specfic strains, I have my favorites, but usually what ever decent strains I can get.

Purple Haze, Hindu Kush as sativas. Candy Kush (Hybrid) and OG Kush mostly as my indicas.

Why do I always have a full blown 180 bpm, full adrenalin dump panic attack when I smoke?

Marijuana is a stimulant. Depending on what type you are using. Your central nervous system is comprised of the sympathetic and the parasympathetic systems. same thing happens to me. thats why I drink with my friends, smoke by myself. It's not a social drug for me. But it does help with pain and helps me recover from training faster (stimulating my appetite allowing me to take in more nutrients-I gotta high metabolism)

Maybe you can find a way to make it work for you without freaking out.

Vaporize it then.. The reason cigarettes give you cancer is not because of nicotine which is more or less like caffeine.. if people had nicotine in their moca or what not in the morning they would never tell the difference and the addiction level is pretty similar.. Tar is what causes cancer.. there are 60 or so cancer causing __ (forgot the name believe it starts with an m) in tobacco smoke etc..

Only reason I bring up cigs is because that is the primary reason there is that stigma. Marijuana smoke is no where near the same.. while not ideal.. if it bothers you, you can eat and or vaporize it lol.. Also its been used in modern western medicine since the 60s or 70s don't remember exact dates.. but it has plenty of medically recorded uses and countless studies on weed none that I know of that have linked it directly to cancer(the smoke is really the only thing to worry about). Sorry for smugged details.. I gotta head to class and I'm far to lazy to find them.

Dudes, there are so many strains out there that you would not believe and everyone does something a little different. Now I am talking about Med quality not dirt weed. A quick guide: indica, sativa, and hybrids. All Kush's are hybrids, it depends on what the cross breed is to determine how heavy sativa or indica that it is. Now, for example white widow is a hybrid that is amazing for pain and creativity. Grapefruit Kush is a hybrid made from Grapefruit strain out of canada crossed with OG Kush it is also good for pain. Now as far as panic attack, you are probably hitting a strong sativa, go for hybrids that are a fairly equal mix. Also, for the panic attacks do you only smoke a night? If so try to smoke earlier in the day and start with small amounts and see if that helps. Only time I ever get that panic feeling is if I smoke a sativa heavy before I go to bed. Hope that makes since and helps some.

No its called integrity, I reasearch shit before I start passing out information to others. I only started smoking (vaping) regularly about 3-4years ago myself and it had increased the quality of my life. I kept an actual diary of how it worked, made me feel, pros/cons, etc.

Sativas in particular can have this effect, try an Indica or a hybrid, if your heart is racing, or your having panic attack like symptoms. Also ease your way into it, no need to smoke your face off.

The great thing about vaping is that it involves no combustion so you will not be inhaling all the other chemicals that are produced when the herb is lit up. Those other chemicals seem to actually play an affect on my actual "high".

For example, when Ive had an injury and smoked my herbs using a glass piece, it has seemed as if I didnt get the same anti-inflammatory affect as I when I vaped. Also when I vape I dont get that slight sluggish feeling, but I often do when I smoke out of a glass piece. Its weird, but I pretty much always smoke the same strain so Im thinking strain type doesnt have much play in my theory...

Who knows...All I can say is I will always recommend vaping before anything else.

If you wanna learn about the effects on the lungs look at Dr.Donald tashkin he is the lead researcher on the pulmonary effects of drugs at UCLA he did a 20 year study just on weed!!! There are videos on YouTube?

Heres some info on COPD and Lung Cancer in regards to marijuana "smoking"(refering to a study smoking joints, and this is still with the intake of carcinogens, which would be elminated if you used a vaporizer)

There is a lot that goes into answering your question, but I'll stick to the main points to keep this short. The shortest answer is yes, the weed is probably making it hurt less, both through medicinal properties (anti-inflammatory, pain reliever, etc) and distraction (you are high, and not as focused on the pain). However, it could be coincidence, or placebo as well.

You also have to consider the strain. Some strains are great for pain relief (white rhino was actually bred for it), others do nothing for it. Some relax your muscles (generally indicas), while others are anti-inflammatory (certain sativas, and this works for retinal pressure as well as muscle inflammation, which is why sativas help glaucoma). The right cross-bred strain can be perfect, or useless, for your particular problems.

Remember that even in clubs, a strain name is wrong as often as it is right. If what you smoked actually was Pandora's Box, then you can trace its genetics to its roots to figure out how/why it will effect you. This is the best way to find the right strain if you want to really use cannabis as a medicine. In the case of Pandora's Box, for example, it is a cross between JTR (Jack the Ripper) and Space Queen. JTR is Jack's Cleaner crossed with Space Queen, and Space Queen is Romulan crossed with Cinderella 99. I'll let you investigate from there if you want to follow the genetic family tree all the way back and see how/why that strain does what it does, but the theme in this case is that it is mostly Jack Herer strains crossed with Space Queen strains at different points. So, if you investigate the effects of those strains, you will get a good picture of the effects of Pandora's Box. That is generally how you research a strain. Good luck!

No worries. It's not all that bad once you figure out how it works. Until then, that's what forums are for I guess. If people understood weed as well as they do, say, alcohol, I think it would be seen as far more efficient at its medical uses than it currently is. And don't worry ... cheese and diesel are great strains!
