It's okay man and totally natural to burn out. This is where you can reduce your training to say once or twice a week and cross train something else. There's gymnastics, break-dancing, any team sport, whatever. Double bonus if your cross train activity benefits your jiu jitsu somehow. Ask yourself too why you're burning out on jiu jitsu, or anything in your life for that matter that you want to keep in it, and go from there too. Maybe you've hit a stall in progress, maybe you haven't varied your curriculum, maybe you haven't gone up and rolled with new people/body types/energies. There are so many ways you can make jiu jitsu, or anything worthwhile that you burn out on, a fresh and new experience. Try rolling with different types of music. Work techniques you've never worked on. Find a wrestling/judo/sambo guy and roll with him/her.
I hear you man, ive got a Light contact freefighting comp this friday so maybe that will spark it back, if not ive got a NO-GI jj comp in may, and that will be a first for me so that will spark it back up i hope.
Just crosstraining with boxing at the moment, so might need to pull back on that i think?.
I'd second all the above, I kinda lost interest in h0ckey too recently (ironically for wrestling/jj) so def seek out another activity to take a break.
I've been rolling for a few years now with different MMA clubs (though never anywhere that awarded BJJ belts sadly, hence still a "white" belt!), and I took a 6th month break at one point. Sometimes people just get bored with the same stuff and grow out of it. Sometimes people get frustrated when their progress seems to plateau, because they are like a sponge when they first start out, absorbing all these brand new moves and techniques. Don't forget that everyone else you train with are also making progress, and its only until a new guy comes along that you realise just how far you've come.
Personally, I didn't want to turn my back on the stuff I'd learnt and let it fade away. My advice: realise that jj is a hobby not a chore, and if you don't enjoy it take a break or train less and see what happens! You can always come back!
your going through a plateau( i hope i spelled it right)
it happened to me too and its going to keep happening forever
it doesnt last forever
good luck!
Competing helps
Cookie you don't plateau after a month or two of training lol. Just have a strong cup of harden the fuck up LOL
I wouldn't say ive plateau'd only after about 4-5 Months of training, but ive just kinda been enjoying it less and less, i just think i need to mix it up more ae
Need to try harder to progress.
Try setting individual goals for each class you go to... I will use myself as an example. For the past month I've been getting punished by a heavyweight in my gym. Last week I said no more, and I wouldn't be satisfied until I got top position on him. Well I did just that and punished him while he was on the bottom. Maybe you can't reach your goal one day but don't get discouraged, just keep a mental checklist of everything you want to accomplish and set out to complete the checklist.
What do you want out of it?
Whenever I lose interest, I seek a good ass whooping. Always does the trick.
train somewhere else then LOL
CV is like a resume' right? Yeah, being an eagle scout looks badass on a resume' too, but I just had no desire in dumping that much time into something I wasnt passionate about. I do, however, want to be a certified badass. Really bad. Whether its documented or not. And there's only one way to get that. Just do what brings you fulfillment.
Every time i roll with someone better than me, makes me want to train more. I Rolled with a brown belt without knowing it and afterwards i was thinking "Damn ,I want to be as good as that guy"!
Try adding some wrestling to your game so you can get the points for takedown and points for top position right after. By the way, wrestling is probably the hardest freaking part of MMA for me. I keep wanting to pull guard when someone gets a deep takedown attempt on me.
nooooooooooooooo !!!!!!!!!!!!! that just means you find a new position and find the ins and outs of that !!! get that fire back homie! BJJ is my favorite MMA of all time, my #2 is Muay Thai, nothing sicker than a guy with nasty ground game with nasty knees elbows and kicks!!!
