i have it and i love it. for my money he is one of the best teachers in the game. i love how he teaches principles, concepts, and movements as the basis for the techniques he shows. great dvd set.
Absolutely jaw dropping.
I've never seen it but I have his 50/50 and Triangle DVDs and they are a couple of awsome sets.
deep half one is really good to
too bad i suck at deep half ;______;
I have deep half as well, just havent had a chance to watch it. Ryan Hall really is one of the best teachers.
eddies a great teacher too come onnn down to horrywooddddd
these are on my wish list :)
wow i was just talking to someone i train with today and told him I have Ryans Halls triangle dvd set and love it so i was considering buying his back attact set but was going to ask around on this forum and see if it was worth it since is all in gi, Sound like i will be getting it
If you have to choose between the deep half and back take set, take the back-take set. It's going to take less time to be able tto implement the concepts and positions into your game. The deep half set is incredible, and you get a deal if you get both, but the back attack set is the best back attack set out there period. Plus, you can do 90% of the moves gi or no gi.
I LOVE RYAN HALL! (not like THAT WAY you guys...) i watched his 5050, deep half, and triangle
but have you seen THIS yet (i love the guy but i feel SO BAD that this happened)

i also recommend Gracie Combatives 16 disc dvd boxset, that has some awesome pointers and they OVER EXPLAIN everything it gives you no questions on anything anymore.
my most recent dvd watch was CAIO TERRA 111 HALF GUARD that was sooooooooo badass! (all gi techniques) but you can always translate those over to nogi (which i prefer but not racist against gi's) 6 hours long, teaches you at least 100 new moves
hes a little hyper but his skills are solid
I tried watching the deep half and seriously I just cant even listen to that guy anymore. Way too much blinking, lol. And he says please every single time to his partner. I know that shouldn't be a bad thing, but you add that up to the fact that he disses on the Rubber Guard and it's too much to take, for me at least.
But the triangle DVD is good.
that looked awesome, the dudes got game
He looks down on the lockdown and grapevine too. Seems like he takes shots at a lot of what 10th planet guys use..Its obviously his opinion but for somebody that competes at such a high level in gi and no gi its hard not to listen to what he has to say. Plus you can take some good away from just about everybody.
you MAY disagree with someones belief about how they do their jui jitsu, just gotta ignore the ego and learn what they have to offer, thats the only way to evolve in bjj, i like ryan and his teaching (i call him TWITCHY or BLINKY lol) he might nothing think grapevines are effective but he could be wrong, its all what YOU think works best and YOU stick to what YOU think works thats what i believe in
got so bored today, finally got around to watching this as we speak
Agreed, the reason he hates on lockdown and rubber guard is because he's not fully open minded to everything and hasn't been his whole career. He's just developed what works for him!
Don't hate on his game because he hates on yours though, if he's not interested in learning it so be it, but you should take AS MANY techniques as you can from high level guys and incorporate them into your game.
That's the 100% correct attitude JC. I'm learning a TON about back control from the 1st DvD of his Back Attack series. So what if he doesn't like/use/endorse RG? As long as you can tolerate the twitchyness/blinkyness of his persona, which isn't even an issue for me, but I guess it is for some, he has great potential to up your game, unless you're already a back control master. As far as my whitey white belt goes, his back DvD is gold. Hmmm...perhaps I should say it's blue, since it may help me attain blue belt skill someday =D. Till then, WHITE BELT PRIDE BABY!

It will help you attain blue belt skill, just take it as it comes :) Your priority should be just improving and the belts will come!
You know my favorite thing about jiu jitsu is how one can break down a specific roll, and then pick one of hundreds of things that can be improved/added to/changed, and actually improve it for the next roll. Right now it's getting better at side control escapes =D.
I also have the Back Attack DVD and you can use some of the concepts in No-Gi as well, Ryan is a good teacher and a funny guy.lol
link to the torrent? :P
His blinkingisnt as bad in these ones as it is in the triangle dvd
Yeah..that stuff is illegal..I just have friends burn a back up copy and I keep it for safe keeping.
The blinking is part of his jiu jitsu strat. Don't hate =D. You haven't seen his multi-blink into the traingle setup yet.
So.....who's got a copy that they wouldn't mind sending me?
I'm glad this post is up so I'm not the only one that is confused. I just finished the 2nd DVD of his Triangle. Through out the 1st and 2nd, it seems as if Ryan Hall is anti - 10thplanet?? I'm trying to take from it what I can as there are some great stuff on there. But also I have to filter out his bias for 10thplanet techniques. Got his back take DVD also, but haven't got time for that yet. So how is the relationship between Ryan and 10thplanet? I'm confused.
Depending on who you talk to you may hear stories of some friction between him and Denny Prokopos, but there's no larger beef that I know of. I've visited 5050 before a few times and he's never said anything bad about Denny or anyone else 10p. He has strong beliefs about certain things and he is firmly rooted in believing that the lockdown for example is an inherently bad position to use. Same with the rubber guard I think. If you see any of his sets besides the triangle set you won't really get that vibe. For the rolling back attack he may mention something about not needing to triangle your legs but that's it. Also, he gives shit all around, including himself. On his new sets he'll say that he used to be dead wrong about teaching something a particular way. and on his head and arm chokes dvd series he basically says that almost every instructor teaches arm-in chokes poorly. I think after seeing it I agree.
Yeah I'm not sure his reasoning on taking he digs on 10th Planet but honestly the concepts are extremely valuable. I've been studying his cross grip/inverted guard DVD and it's been awesome. From what I've seen he only says a couple comments so if you just disregard them you'll learn something regardless.
Ryan is one of my favorite guys, but with that being said, he speaks in too many absolutes. He is always correcting himself. He actually recently wrote an article describing how he thinks trying to play offensively from the guard is absolutely useless at the higher levels, then puts out an inverted guard DVD. Idk. That guys got some amazing jiu jitsu, but he says some crazy stuffs.
I am trying to study his triangle dvd and only got to the 2nd dvd. I do like what I'm seeing, its just that some of the thing go against what our system philosophy, ie to clinch or not to clinch. He basically saying clinching game will not ever be successful at high level. Maybe I should wait for him to change his mind again??
