Tangled Guard has already been looked at and found to be impractical in another thread awhile back
^ care to explain please because this looks pretty cool and effective.
If I remember correctly it was because you pass up to many other higher percentage opportunities getting into this guard. It was looked at and critiqued by a few of 10th Planet's higher ranks. It's been about a year ago so I'm not possitive on all of the specifics.
I see your point. None the less its and interesting approach
Watch the video and you can see he passes up a triangle to get the tangled guard. Why pass a chance at submission up?
Vid of catching it live rolling against game opponent out there? doubt it.
There is an article on No-Gi-Grappling.com where Shap talks about this. Cool stuff.

Again it's not that practical, I wouldn't waste your time learning it, spend it wisely on the more important stuff :)
As someone has said, why pass up the opportunity for a sub to "look cool"? Maybe if you're working it against people who suck its something fun to do but I'd never use this against someone decent!
Its not very realistic. I have tried it and it just isn't a good option. However a good option is a zombie then going to chill dog and experiencing the meany life changing events that has to offer.
Everything is low percentage unless you rep it. I know there are more important things but tricks is tricks.
this is the kind of move you would use on a white belt..you're not going to catch anybody with it blue or higher. Impractical is the perfect word
We were having a brief discussion at 10PJJ Riverside with Sean Bollinger about "making up moves" and this particular video came up some months back. It provided a nice laugh. Nuff said.
I thought experimenting would be more encouraged...
Experimenting is encouraged. However, this video seems more an attempt to pass off an experiment as something that works by someone who is not even affiliated with 10PJJ (and lists no credentials) who even suggests in his video that his flow be added to the 10PJJ system without putting in R and D with actual 10PJJ practitioners. Instead it's more like, "Here's some cool stuff I made up and altered, add it to the curriculum." This misrepresents the system and only spreads misinformation IMO.
shap actually trained at 10th planet hollywood for a while from my understanding
I understand the need to protect the system from faulty techs and all. I dont know but I cant seem to shake off that this guy might be on to something. I have a comp in a couple of weeks and I was considering maybe using this at some point though if its really untested then I dont want to take any chances.
Nice find cookie :D
I saw in the previously posted link that he had "trained at HQ for a few months". That's very different than being a resident 10th Planet student under Eddie or one of his instructors and rolling on a consistent basis with students very well versed in the 10th Planet system. That's why even some of the other guys on here are pointing out the flaws in the flow from the video and how it's simply impractical.
Andrew hit it on the head here. 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu may look cool, however it is not about doing what looks cool. It's about doing what works. It's about hitting the highest percentage moves. Ask Eddie or any of the instructors, they'll tell you the same thing.
Watch at the 1:30 mark, he passes up what looks like a guaranteed triangle. I mean it's right there and he just ignores it to be fancy and innovative. Being innovative doen't just mean coming up with something new, it means coming up with something new, effective, and efficient.
Exactly right bro.
I could see how this would work perfectly if your opponent has a paralysis in his right arm.
