Relson Gracie Rubber Guard Flexability ???
-

I don't get this attitude of not adding techniques to jiu jitsu. It's like Relson is implying that Helio was a genius and the rest of us are morons incapable of adding a single worthwhile technique to jiu jitsu. Does Relson think other things should stop evolving as well? Should we stop improving the iPhone once Steve Jobs dies? Should we have stopped making movies once Hitchcock died? I just don't get the mentality.
Sure Helio contributed much to martial arts, but he was just a man like so many other millions of men out there. And just as he was able to add legitimate techniques to martial arts, so too have thousands of other people.

Relson def. comes across as a very proud and closed minded individual when it comes to Jiu Jitsu. Gotta admire the shape he's in at his age though.

At the same time Ric you have the best BJJ guy in the world Roger Gracie using very basic cookie cutter bjj so he does have a point.

Huh??
Did he just say he doesn't believe in butterfly guard? I thought that the butterfly guard was part of the whole traditional brazilian jiu jitsu? I really believe that Relson is a great guy i just think he is one of those old people who are just naive when it comes to evolving with time. Kind of reminds me of my grandmother. She old and she believes things from her time are still the best way. I tell her all the time she doesn't need to mix things by hand because we have a blender....but she still thinks doing it by hand is better.

roger gracie used rubber guard against xande. it's not like he did something in the highest levels of competition without tons of drills, reps and the like. he clearly is confident in the rubber guard to use it against elite competitors

Too bad Roger didn't know the Pump :(
That shit would've been over @ the 4:20 mark ;) I also liked the Crackhead control, and the transitioning from one side to the other. Roger is in the UK though... Eddie, has he ever trained with you?

you cant exactly say he was using "rubber guard" this is from adcc 2003 where Eddie beat Royler Was the name rubber guard even coined yet? I doubt Roger was cruising the California grappling circuit picking up game from brown belts. But hey you never know.
