Would you go as far as saying that 10th Planet is the best no gi system in the world and most efficent jiu jitsu system in mma? I would!
I think at least one 10th planet guy needs to win a world championship using 10th planet created moves before even considering that and Vinny Magalhaes doesn't count.
In MMA it's hard to say. Rubber guarding rampage jackson will get your spine broken on the floor, though you usually don't have this problem if you're not fighting a monster. I agree it's the most MMA adapted, and the most legit system in any fight. I would even go as far as to say the 10th planet system is the best advanced system in Jiu Jitsu, though top level guys will always stress how important it is to have basics down tight. Most grappling matches aren't won with pentagram chokes and locoplatas, it's usually rear nakeds, kimuras, triangles, the stuff you learn on day 1.
Best example being Eddie VS Royler. Used what has become 10th planet to set up a simple triangle.
I am not challenging your argument, but I have to ask this.
Why? Explain that and you have a solid argument, if you can't explain or prove it, than others will bury your argument/thesis statement to the ground while you helplessly watch and the biggest come back you will have will go about the lines of " Well fuck you then!!"
Roger Gracie said 80% of traditional gi jiu jitsu does not work in Mma. So for sure traditional gi jiu jitsu isn't the best form of grappling for Mma if what Roger said is true. That leaves judo, Sambo, catch wrestling, Japanese jiu jitsu, TPJJ, Greco roman and free style wrestling.
^^ always humble lol... but you gotta sing to your self http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-43Z2LiEak
well is 10th planet no gi bjj with added moves?
I think Roger meant it as 80% of what Roger knows, doesn't work in MMA. This can be misleading because Roger must have a wealth of knowledge and 20% of his knowledge, is a ton. So the 20% that does work, is IMO more effective than whatever percentage of Judo, Sambo, Catch Wrestling etc... (excluding TPJJ because I see it as a flavor of BJJ) that works in MMA. When martial artists only trained one style back in the early ufc days, it was GJJ on top and not any sambo, judo, or catch wrestling guys. So that alone should be proof of BJJ's dominance as the superior grappling style. Even in No-Gi grappling, BJJ guys rule the world championships year after year. Of course you always have your exceptions though.
You "think" that's what he meant, but that's clearly not what he said. But I do agree with your observation of BJJ though. Although it's all just jiu jitsu to me. Use what works and call it a day. More time spent talking about what's better is less time actually getting better, which is what it's all about.
I am well aware that I said "think". You can never be sure exactly what they mean when it's their second language. Regardless, 20% of all BJJ and 20% of what he knows, it's still a ton of technique that will overcome other grappling arts more often than not. I agree with you on not caring about discussing what's better, I was more annoyed with the OP blabbing out "TPJJ is the best JJ system" with no evidence to back up his claims. Had he written something out, good or bad I probably wouldn't have cared to reply lol
Freestyle wrestling is probably the most effective form of grappling in MMA right now, at least at the highest levels. At a lot of the local MN shows I've seen TONS of dudes getting subbed out by good JJ guys, but in the UFC the wrestlers are still winning at a very high rate. A lot of the wrestlers can easily shut down a good JJ guys game in the cage.
It's hard to say whether or not 10PJJ is the best because there aren't a ton of dudes using it in the UFC (highest level). I know there are several, but the sample size isn't large enough. Most of the JJ guys aren't training 10PJJ. Is it more effective than traditional gi JJ? I would say that it almost certainly is. I don't think a lot of people would argue that but until someone starts finishing fights using the rubberguard, the truck, or some other unique 10PJJ setups it's going to be somewhat difficult to point to 10PJJ and say "It's the best grappling style in MMA."
TPJJ is the youngest of these arts, it's still in its infancy compared to the others age wise, therefore MMA fighters are less familiar with it and or have spent less time working the system into their game. Over time TPJJ will get even bigger and the guys training the system will get better and better at it. As this happens it will leave no doubt in anyones mind that 10th planet is the best. Get on board with the revolution now or get left behind people.
10th planet allows me to wear tights without looking like a fruitcake. That's the only reason I study it.
BTW Denny has 2 Worlds Championships under his belt. One as a Brown Belt at the No-Gi worlds. And the other at the FILA No-Gi Worlds.
