For those who can't train at an official 10th Planet School.

For those like me who can't train at an official 10th Planet school here's something to help you sleep at night. I remembered something similar on the old forums and emailed Eddie about it and he replied with this info.

10thplanetjj.com for at least 6 months. No one walks into a new school and
gets ranked right away no matter how good they are, you have to prove your
loyalty. You will then need to post on the Nibiru forum 15 competition wins
on video with the 10th Planet logo on your person in every match(you can
have other school patches too). The final test will be you making a 10
minute video, uncut and unedited of you running thru everything you know 1/2
guard, everything you know rubber guard, everything you know twister and all
the deep hook transitions to spider web. Do not teach to the camera just run
thru all the techs swiftly and call out the names of the positions and moves
as you go thru them. Everything should fit in a 10 minute video that I will
evaluate. I need to see that you have at least 75% of the system down.
Naturally the technique video will be critiqued alot harder for a purple
than a blue, or for a brown than a purple. 10th Planet head instructors that
are non black belts can only rank their students to blue. All Nibiru
warriors that enrolled in official 10th Planet schools that are run by non
black belts that want to get their purple or brown must be first recommended
by their instructor to me and then submit the 10 minute technique video to
me personally. You gotta show me how much you know without looking at notes.
Easy right?? :)

If you don’t have a patch on your shorts then just flash the 10th Planet
gang sign into the camera before or after your match. It’s easy, right hand
pointing down, left hand making an “O” with the thumb on top. That will be
enough for me :)

That is 10 wins as in 10 matches not 10 entire competitions right? because 10 entire competitions will take me forever because they don't happen entirely too often around here.

Im pretty sure its 15 wins that have to be in organized competitions, so people can't cheat by throwing in rolling sessions i guess.

yeah of course. I just wasn't sure if it was, lets say you are in a tournament and you win 5 matches, and win your division at the tournament. That counts as 5 of your wins correct? and not just one since it was only one tournament.

That counts as 5 wins, yeah! Just make sure you video them all, and you're repping 10th Planet in them

What are you talking about? you don't have to win 15 competitions you just have to win 15 matches. The 10th planet patch is on your shorts and you can purchase it from the 10th planet store. Did you think he met sew it on to your opponent in the middle of the match?

not if you travel, considering you can probably get two to three wins per comp, wont take that long... probably about a year if you train consistently... at least IMO.

Has anyone ever been granted a 10th planet belt over the internet?

I thought the belt granting over the internet was a myth, but I've seen this so many times, maybe it's real. Hey, the Gracie's are doing it now.

Question: Would you respect the purple belt of a person that got it over the internet as much as the purple belt of someone that went to a brick and mortar school and earned a purple belt?

I don't want to say that I'd disrespect anyone, or judge people on things that are none of my business, but with no other information on the people other than how they got their belt, I'd have to say that I'd give more credibility to the person that showed up every week and put the time in on the mats in front of the people that determined their level of ability.

One last thought, I said 'purple' belt for a reason. I don't think I'd be as biased against an internet blue belt as I would an internet purple, and I can't even imagine someone getting a brown in this way.

I hope I don't insult anyone with this post. It's really none of my business who 10th planet gives belts to and I'm sure they've thought about these things much harder and longer than I have. These are just honest questions.

As you said, "the Gracie's are doing it now". And they will give you up to a brown belt without ever seeing you on anything but a video. You're only required to see them when you go for your black belt.
I know this doesn't answer your question but I thought this should be pointed out.

Under this criteria, yes. He requires comp vids. If he is winning matches against high level opponents its hard to argue with success, especially when 10p techs are used. Then a comprehensive vid. He'd be able to tell and I respect anybody who puts it on the line and executes under pressure. No matter where he learned it. Internet guys are under estimated..

Ive been thinking about moving to the US for a while now to hone the skills of 10th Planet- Ive been doing Bjj for close to a year. Been saving my paycheaks And started streaching everyday for 20-30 mins. Just to prepare for 10th planet.
I honestly fell in love with Jiu Jitsu when i saw Joachim Hansen useing the rubber guard back in 2003/2004 i think, in shooto japan vs takanori gomi - Mission Controll.
But anyways.. i just wanted to know a few things about california state law when it comes to moving there.

1: Can i buy a car without insurrence? or do i have to have some sort of deal
2: How much does a 2-3 bedroom apartment cost a month to rent in North Hollywood near The HQ? or more reasonable close by
3: How much money does one need to live - (Food,Rent,Legends MMA for a month/year)
4: What should i do to prepare my jj game for 10th planet when the time comes?
I got the DvD but i guess the 10th planet game has changed since the DvD and book came out. Since its ever evolving. Any Tips?

Im not sure if there will be more then just me coming, i hope i can get some of my friends interested in coming aswell. Tho it is a big investment, its totaly worth it to me, lets just hope more people think that aswell :)
Depending on how much money i will need will determine when i can leave for the US.

That's the point. Eddie's not just going to give belts out to anyone, you have to show your dedication, and show that you actually deserve that belt. And honestly if you go to some big tournaments you can easily get that many matches in just 3 competitions. I don't think he is asking too much at all.

That would be interesting to know. Yesterday I went to Day #1 of the Arizona BJJ Federation competition (Gi Only) and watched the Adult and Senior Blue Belts. It was a lot of guys "pulling full guard, get passed, side control, then half guard" - repeat again. A few guys were standouts at Blue Belt, but overall technique was mediocre for most (sorry if I'm being too harsh).

I thought to myself..man, if I was competing, I think the opponents would freak out if they were up against someone using the invisible collar or moving from twister side control to the truck position. Not that they would necessarily know what it is, but they would think I'm some weird dude doing unorthodox Jiu Jitsu. I haven't competed in a Gi in a long time but sometimes I just want to step out there and do it for enjoyment because I know I would be a less predictable opponent and I get to utilize the best system in existence. And yes, I'd proudly wear a 10th Planet patch on my Gi (assuming it's ok). ;)

I'm starting the Gracie stuff. Got a couple guys interested. There's a Gracie Training Center nearby, but shelling out $125 a month is hard on our budget. (I'm fighting for my divorce and my friend lost his wife to cancer and has a ton of medical bills to pay.) The thing with the Gracie stuff is that once we do the lessons 3 or 4 times each, we can go to the Testing Center and get our belts that way. No sending in videos. I have a couple other guys at school that are interested as well. So, hopefully, if nothing else gets FUBARed, I just might be submitting a hotbox application.
