I've been using the ball and socket but have had quite a bit of trouble finishing it. What grip are you guys using? Any tips? Maybe I'm coming down on the wrong angle.

Vice grip, its very tight. I do have trouble finishing it in live rolls, but probably because I don't put in the reps.
shinya aoki uses a vicegrip to finish it.. theres nothing wrong with using a guillotine grip though.
i think the only important thing to consider is to make sure your using the bony part of your forearm, right under your wrist, to apply pressure against the side of their neck.
what may also help is, with the thigh pushing their neck, push off at a 45 degree angle towards their legs, rather then pushing straight across. i'm only assuming so because this rule applies with another similar choke that i use.
personally, i think there's tons of better options then a peruvian. especially when you consider the jap necktie... i dont think its very high percentage when it comes down to it.
if i've got a vicegrip and i cant knock the guy off their base in turtle, i use a similar choke that shinya aoki showed me in his dvd.
instead of throwing my legs over and whatever, i get the knee on his head side, and essentially put it inside of my vicegrip, so that its pointed on a 45 degree angle where his neck meets his shoulder.
i position my entire body behind my knee in a track stance with both feet pushing off the floor, and pull the vicegrip on the far side of his neck while i shove my knee through the near side of his neck
I'm going to train it later today with the vice grip. Thanks guys.
I actually use an s-grip for my peruvian neckties. If I have the vice grip then I usually bump them over and go for the japanese necktie or darce, depending on what they give me.
I use the Vicegrip for everything. When I do the Peruvian Necktie I use the Vicegrip and I kinda do it backwards. Say if Im on the left side and I have my vicegrip established I swing my right leg(the leg by his body) out and over first that way theres no chance of me missing and sitting on my leg. Had that happen to me too many times, then I swing my other leg above his head and go for the finish. Like I stated in thew combo thread I get my vice grip go for the peruvian and if he falls to his side to defend I go for the darce and if he falls to his back then I follow them and go for the R.A.T (Reverse Arm Triangle) all off of the vicegrip. Try it out and see how it works for you. Once my vicegrip is in it usually means your done haha. Heres a video from when I first first started using the 10th planet system and I first discovered how to chain my chokes together. @ 1:09 I was setting up the peruvian necktie and he saw it coming so as I was lifting me leg by his body to finish he bumped me off balance and I ended up sitting on my right leg. Which is why I make sure that leg is over first. Once it failed I went for the R.A.T but he knows how to defend and he is alot stronger than me. But thats what started my combos attacks. Try it out and let me know if it works for you

This is pretty similar to what I've been doing but without much success. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-Eky3fClqE
Trez- Can't See your video
AJ- I have seen some guys finish it with the S grip, I'm not very comfortable with that grip, about the only time I use is when I'm going to for the Apollo arm triangle or if I'm in butterfly against a really big guy but I'm going to try it that way too.
Nathan- Do you have a link?
I like to grab my shin/ankle with one hand and that wrist with the other one like a kimura grip
I use a guillotine grip (left hand on right wrist when the right arm is the choking arm)
