This angers mehttp://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2011/...ve-in-america/
That is interesting. I feel bad that my state is only 4th on the list. We have some work to do!
"2. Montgomery Country, Maryland
If jobs are what attract you, then this upscale community close to our nation's capital offers the mother of all magnets.
The first step to getting a job is to visit a Casa De Maryland (CASA) Welcome Center. Their employment specialists help you find a job and don’t give a hoot about your legal status. They will even help you acquire an IRS-issued taxpayer identification number because, of course, you’re here illegally and not eligible for a real Social Security number. This powerful organization is truly the illegal alien Welcome Wagon with $16 million in assets, $4.9M of it acquired in 2010 from government contracts!"
So essentially, you can get a job, earn money, become integrated in society, and you won't sell drugs for a living.. yeah, I can see how that pisses some people off, duh..
I'm sorry did I miss reading something in that obviously sarcastic article that said " Illegals resort to selling drugs if they don't find work"?
Nope, but in my country you aren't allowed to work while waiting to become a citizen. A lot of people I know turn to selling drugs. If they are rejected, they stay and hide, and then their only income is crime. The first part is a quote from the article, the last part is my opinion, that giving illigals work would put a damper on crime. I might be wrong though, I don't live there, and politics isn't really my forte.. :)
I'm having a hard time reading the tone of the article. I can read it as a dig to these states and illegal aliens and I also read it as a source for illegal aliens to find work and states that make it easier for their lives.
For instance here in Washington, we often get shrugged at for allowing illegals to get Drivers Licenses. But the fact of the matter is there is a large agricultural scene here and what would you rather have, illegals legally driving, or illegals illegally driving?
But like I said, it's hard to read what the article is trying to accomplish.
No worries bro lol. Everyone is welcome to their opinion. The drug sales bit gets tossed around alot here. Trust me, it's not my forte either. I was just interested in why an article dripping with such isolationalist sarcasm got Brian angry.
My friends usually sell pot, and they don't hurt no one, so I have no problem with that, lol! :D
Immigration is a complex thing, it seems it's like that's the case in every nation. There's problems, and there's good things about immigration. I'm not for, and I'm not against, one ideally just need a healthy politic that works. In my country the police aren't getting the money they need, and the laws are a bit weird.. We can throw out a a parent with kids, if the state discovers she's working.
The kids get to stay, but the mother is sent back. So no working while in the country, unless you are a citizen. You also have to back up your request to stay with papers. No papers, no stay. That implies that people may be sent back to war zones, with no money, and in a potentially life threatening situation. So they evade the police if they are told they have to go back.
Now, If they could get work, they'd work. If they can't get work, they turn to an alternative income, selling drugs. So essentially, we are importing crime. It doesn't bother me much, but people in general are becoming more sceptical. That's why I see a work permit for illegals as a humane and smart way of hindering crime, while using immigrants as a resource. If the state give them a certificate to work, then they should also be paid properly, not taken advantage of, so I see that as a positive thing!:) Yeah, it's a sarcastic article, it's Fox, lol! :D
I like your way of thinking Sir. I would be pleased if the United States stopped saying "Illegals" and say what they really mean..."Mexicans"
ehh. my two cents for what it is worth.
If you lived in Mexico... and your neighbors were the Johnson's in their Mcmansion just a hundred miles up the road... wouldnt you hop, skip, jump, swim, etc to get over to the U.S.? I would. Our country is fantastic, we bitch about the amount of rights/privleages that we have, but we have forgotten more rights/privelages than half our peers have ever even known! I dont blame any person for wanting a better, safer, happier life. I support that.
But i do hold business fully accountable for their actions and choices.
this is an incredibly complex issue, but only when you consider the humanitarian side of it, otherwise it is pretty black and white.
and i agree with Valdez, i cant understand some of the comments' tones. Some of you are pretty sly with your sarcarsm :)
intersting article.

No human being is illegal, or alien. Borders are bullshit and don't exist outside of maps drawn by greedy assholes.
Amigos...venido a California. ¡Le amamos aquí!
ttt
Man you need to see what i see everday. I cross the border every morning and night. I see 4 bus of people deported morning and night. Ive been here 2yrs.and its everyday since then. That alot of ileagal and still going on everday.
"Now that we have taken care of Osama Bin Laden, maybe our so-called Department of Homeland Security can secure our border with mexico. We are literally being invaded by a foreign country and all our government wants to do is reward these criminals with amnesty. This situation is a national tragedy. I don't feel any safer then I did before the attacks on Sept. 11th, 2001. Any other country in the world would not allow its borders to be crossed by people coming in illegally. We need to secure our borders now."
With that said, my Grandfather came to this Country during WW2 with Germany & he did it Legally, and became a citizen Legally. So why can't these people do the same?
Maybe this Angers me because I have lost a great paying job to illegal mesicans that were willing to do the same work for half the pay. They didn't even speak the native language here and how does some one work with people like that where communication plays a key role in the business. Quit forcing the spanish language to be taught in schools and start forcing English to be learned by immigrants. Quit putting spanish labels on everything & instead put "Learn English" on them.
You do do know it's really the Canadians right? Snow back and proud of it ;)
It's the system that's broken, not the people. Borders are just arbitrary lines drawn on the ground... The Earth wasn't formed with political and economic lines scratched into the dirt.
My folks were immigrants from Germany, and we spoke German when I was a kid. My dad's first language was German, and everyone in my family but my mom and I are fluent German speakers. They still speak German heavily in his hometown, which is Fredericksburg, TX. Are you as threatened by the German language as you are Spanish? They taught it in public schools there during most of the 20th century. I have a feeling, though, that you wouldn't apply the same standards there, since they aren't
"mesicans". Your fucked up spelling, not mine.
I used to be a roofer, and the price paid to roofers went down drastically after there was a huge influx of Mexican immigrants into Texas. But I would never hold that against the people themselves, because I realize that it isn't their fault. It's the product of a system designed to keep people apart socially and economically, for the benefit of a few fat cats who profit off the backs of the working class.
I would respect you more if you just admitted to being racist, instead of masking it in the immigration issue.
Ok, so I agree with English being taught, spoken, and printed here. However, I've been homeless more times than I can count, ate from trashcans, slept on walmart benches, and collected cans to feed my son. Now, I've already served my countey and done my time. All I'm guaranteed is first in line at the unemployment office. You lost a high paying job to a "mesican"? Blame the greedy American contractor who tried to save a dime. As far as no other countries allow illegals to cross borders, explain how I've freely traveled into Canada, Mexico, Pakistan, and a host of others? I'm certainly glad your grandfather came legally, that's great. If you could just explain that to my friend who is only 19. He wanted to do it legally also. However, on the train from Honduras to Mexico, his wife was beaten and raped to death. He has 11 machete wounds in his back as a rememberance of the day they set out for a new life. Now he cleans bathrooms at the local rest. for $1.00 an hour. I'm pretty sure he didn't take your job.
i thought brian was being sarcastic....
if he wasn't being sarcastic, i assumed that he was because of a sense of extreme ironic-ism.
because he brought up 9/11 and terrorism, and i'm pretty sure that during WW2, germany and america were like you know, worst enemies, or something along those lines.... with the whole nazi thing. i'd assume that americans would have looked at germans as terrorists back then, as they do with all their enemies..
compared with lets say... america and mexico, who logically shouldn't hold a grudge against each other, as far as i'm aware..
maybe instead of blaming the mexican illegals who are risking there lives to have half the rights we are born with... you blame the company for exploiting them.. or better yet... blame companies for going over seas and "immigrating" to other countries to pay cents an hour.
and this is america.. that doesnt mean speak english. it means make money and be a capitalist. that is our culture... capitalism. thats the great thing... i can open up a business that strickly speaks, say i dont know, arabic... and if that generates more money than an english speaking business.... guess what.. you better start learning arabic. get to know your national language, it isnt english, its the dollar.
When has a Mexican terrorist attack ever been an issue? It doesn't even sound right saying it. Guess what, Mexican's have been crossing those borders illegally for a very long time, day in and day out way before September 11, so the whole terrorist argument is invalid. The only issue with terrorism and those borders is having real (non-Mexican) terrorists travel to Mexico and using it as an entry in to the United States. I guarantee if you were born on the other side of that fence and you knew that a better life was just over that wall, you would jump it. Don't blame people for not being as fortunate as you to be born in to such a great country full of opportunity and hope. You have no idea what life is like over there. And on another note, if a poor illegal uneducated illiterate Mexican can do a better faster job than what you have ultimately steered and focused your entire life towards as your chosen profession then that should be an indicator of just how much you have accomplished with yourself. It's really a failure on your part, given all the opportunity you were born in to.
You need to learn your history.
First of all, the United States is a capitalist nation. You lost your job because that is how capitalism works. You're obsolete.
Also, English is not an official language of The United States, and never has been, so that point is moot. Google it.
Secondly it is impossible that your Grandfather came here "legally" from Germany, but lets back up a bit.
This country was founded by a violent, forced, genocide by actual "illegal" aliens from Europe.
Not only that, but many states in this union were stolen from Mexico during illegal wars crafted by the United States government.
And oh yeah...before Europeans created the idea of state and domestic borders, there were none. Borders don't actually exist. They only exist because people like you agree with other people like you that they exist. I don't agree they exist. Why? Because I have actually been to these "borders" and there is nothing there but man made walls and fences deciding this is where one place starts and another ends. So its a battle of ideology really. You think you're entitled to some "rights" and others aren't because of the fact that you were lucky enough to be born on this side of a man made fence? You have a lot to learn about life kid and next time you decide to go post some racist, ethnocentric, elitist shit on the forums, maybe you will read a book or two first.
Mexico is part of North America and Mexican's are Natives to North America, which makes Mexican's Native Americans. They have every right to be here.
Unless your Grandfather is Native American...he was an illegal immigrant.
A lot of good stuff has been said to respond to this but I will say this,
If your job was taken by "illegal mesicans" and you don't think theres work out there. Type this in Google "migrant farm worker shortage". Check your state, I am sure they are not at capacity. I have worked in the fields, in construction at a pig farm etc etc. I was born in the US and my parents were born in the US, but my grandparents were not. and one thing they passed on to us is there is always work in the fields or outdoors in general. that why they come, there is always work, and if you need it, go find a farm and ask to work.
You guys need to ease up a little bit the guy may be short sighted but he has not said anything that blatantly proves he is racist. Im not going to debate back and forth about it but you guys act like it is a black and white subject and it definitely is not. I believe people should be given the opportunity to enter this country and make a better life for themselves but there are some serious issues at hand.
Before reading these replies, I was a staunch supporter of securing our borders. Jason's posts have sort of thrown me for a loop. I still don't believe we should disregard all immigration laws. It is obvious the system isn't working, people are coming in illegally still, and business owners are hiring them to save money. Perhaps streamlining the process of immigration and allowing them to come here legally, become contributing tax paying citizens rather than criminals on the run the second they cross the border, and having the naturalization process long and drawn out full of hoops to jump through.
Actually, I did have my passport but didn't use it for Canada nor Mexico. The others were during military operations. I'm sure you know about those jaunts lol. I agree that there are a host of other issues at hand though. I don't see it as black and white but human decency has to prevail brother. The legalities are far over my head :-).
Well there are definitely two sides to the argument and I agree with arguments from both sides (some of them) but I know where I stand with it and when I see a person write things like "mesican" he is probably racist. If he was around his buddies that know him really really well and they understand the context of the usage than thats one thing, but he used it to people that don't know his character. I say, he is most likely racist to more of a degree than is normal.
definitely two sides.. the right side and the misinformed herds manipulated by this wedge issue (mostly racist/intolerant). lol sorry thats harsh, but anti-immigration propaganda infuriates me when you know the struggles these people go through.. and also how the very people perpetuating "securing our borders" are the same people profiting off the fact its not secure via worker exploitation.
I did not say spelling mistake. I indicated a typo, not the same thing. Its highly unlikely that he pushed the wrong button when they're right next to each other? No. I have never even heard of "mesican" as a racial slur. What negative thing is it suppose to imply to make it an insult?
Im not defending the guys political views. I just don't think its fair to label him a racist because of them. In fact it comes off like a weak ass attempt to pull the racism card to somehow nullify his opinion.
