Do you ware a cup when you roll?
No, but I sure as hell wear a shirt.
cups are just another way for the man to keep us down
I'll be shopping around for a cup today after taking a few too many shots to the nuts last time in training (as well as dishing out a couple unfortunately). However, I'm guessing that's because myself and my training partners are complete beginners - at least in my case my lack of flexibility and co-ordination results in my elbows/knees, etc, not quite ending up where intended!
So definitely for the time being I'm in favour of the cup.
Out of interest, what would be the advantage of not wearing a cup?
Not wearing a cup - It doesn't pinch your balls, you don't break people's jaws when you go for a triangle, you don't sacrifice technique to use it as leverage in armbars, you're comfy.
Wearing a cup - in the unlikely event of being caught in the balls it protects you, you can tap people with jaw cranks in triangle chokes, you can make peoples arms hurt more in armbars, it pinches your balls, if it does pinch your balls combined with being caught you are in bad pain!
I've never worn a cup, and imo, it's better without. I don't like people wearing cups either, it hurts :)
I wear the spider cup, its the only cup i know of that was designed with grappling in mind, its flexible so you can move freely. id still rather not wear one but you have to in alot of comps so i wear it alot to try and get used to it

No. I just double bag it. Thinking about the spider though.
Jaco has the best compression shorts/cup ever! no pinching nothing, doesn't affect your flexibility whatsoever... It's a bit expensive but I guess it depends how much you value your balls and painless training sessions lol
I used to train without a cup until I got kneed in the balls lol. Right after I was convinced that a cup would be a good idea lol
But then again it's like everything some people won't use one some will. Dudes roll without a mouthguard too ... I wouldn't personally.
Just don't buy some cheap cups and you'll be sweet
I hate the cup. It's amazing really but after you train for a while you really don't get hit in the balls anymore. Personally I feel like it throw the geometry of my game WAY off... I can't ride back and arm bars and triangles and rubberguard (crackhead, sorcerer and Kung-Fu bagged) become nearly impossible. I vote no
Shock doctor from mma warehouse. Bought a regular brand from Academy that made my life hell then went on mmawarehouse.com. Best cup ever
No on the cup. What happens if one of your balls are in mid-escape when someone hits your cup, smashing it into your balls which would be compressed against your groin. No thank you. Plus, if you have a big bush like me, it pulls your man hair out.
If your balls escape your cup, you might need to suck in the pride a little bit and buy a smaller size one? lol
sounds to me like a lot of people that are complaining about the cups getting in the way are wearing one way too big.
I've never cranked on someone's jaw in a triangle before..
Great thread, I was going to ask the same question. I'm shocked at all of the answers of no. I usually wear a cup because I've been hit in the balls several times while rolling, and honestly, it just makes me more comfortable not having my junk flopping around on whoever I'm rolling with lol.
... Side note: does this forum have the ability to put of "poll" threads where you have options and we get to vote for like 1 of 4 choices or something? If so this would be a great topic for the first poll.
When you wear the cup you have no choice but to properly pinch your legs together or else you'll rack yourself with the other dude's arm. With the cup, people seem more apt to thrust their cod piece into your elbow. If they didn't have the cup they would be racking themselves.
Secondly, your partner shouldn't be all mushed up in your junk if you are properly doing the arm bar. At least that's my rationalization for rolling raw.
I sometimes roll without it but if you buy a proper cup most of the complaints disappear. Shockdoctor flexes with the movement and has never let any slip out. To be honest I hardly know it's there. In mma I plan on wearing it so why not roll how you fight?I mainly got it for kickboxing though. Too many inside leg kicks....
The shock doctor carbon flex cup is the best cup Ive ever owned. Its really comfortable and flexible. When Im rolling I forget its even there
It doesnt feel good geting a cup drilled into your back during a rnc either
compretion shorts are a must though
Shockdoctor Best cup short combo around
If you guys go with Jaco compression shorts/cup you won't have that problem. They are using the same system as the thai steel cup with velcro straps going around you so you can do the split the cup will stay where its at lol and I'm pretty flexible and I can hit everything without a problem.
Shockdoctor is alright for low budget
I definitely wear a cup, titanium alloy shockdoctor cup, and your balls can be a shield of justice to protect innocents against bullets like superman poking his chest out.
No on the cup. I've tried it, it's been too distracting. I also find it hard to fit the boys in the size for my height/weight, it's like a chinese torture device.
i always wear a cup. always.
i cant do the compression shorts, though. too loose. i go with the old school jock.
if you are having trouble with your cup, you probably need to get a different size. if the cup is moving around and things are coming out and getting smashed, get a good fitting jock.
I OWE it to my boys to protect them during Any combat sport.
I always wear a cup...don't leave home without it...
Legends sell these ones:

I tried the compression shorts. Not bad but the velcro is annoying.
i aways wear a cup. Until recently the emphasis of my training has always been mma so it was essential. And now it just feels wrong without one. I use shockdoctor but might get a jaco one they look good
Never wear a cup. Never wear a mouth piece. Can't stand them. I go all natural.
i wear every piece of protective equipment going lol. ear guards, mouth piece and a cup!
where is a good place to buy
ear guards? and do they sell them at HQ?
I have had to try different sizes before I got it right. Underarmor jock with compression shorts over that is perfect. Never had a problem. Sometimes I look like I was getting ready to play football. Ear, cup, shin/ankle sleeves, knee pads, underarmor rashguard/tights, mouthguard :)
I hate wearing a cup! Boxer Breifs under Compression shorts seems to keep everything high and tight haha. The only time i get hit in the cod sack is when im sparring Mauy Thai. Even then, I just eat it. I'm not sure if iI want kids anyway! haha jk.
