So I'm the FNG
Hey everyone! I'm sure that this will reek of cheesiness, but I just wanted to introduce myself seeing as I'm the fucking new guy (FNG) around here and am looking forward to getting to know all of you. Anyway... my name is Loki Jones (obviously). I grew up in the northern "panhandle" of West Virginia in a small off-shoot steel town along the Ohio River that's about 45 minutes west of Pittsburgh, PA. I'm now living in the Denver metro area after having moved up from Colorado Springs once I finished my 5 year contract with the military. While I was in the Army I was an 18 Echo which is to say that I was a Special Forces Communications Sergeant. The Special Forces thing might ring a bell for those of you who have been following the Strikeforce promotion or the IFL before that because of my buddy Tim Kennedy who I became good friends with while making our way through the SF Qualification course. Unlike the Strikeforce commentary team during one of Tim's fights... this will probably be one of the few times that I ever bring up the military thing, but if any of you have questions about it feel free to ask.
Anyway... since I moved up to Denver I got accepted into the Pre-Med program at UC Denver where I'm working towards a BS in biology/chemistry in the hopes that I'll eventually get to do work as a research scientist/doctor. I pretty much love all forms of science regardless of whether it is astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology, or even psychology so yeah lol I am a huge nerd, but I also love, love, love physical competition. The more "dangerous" the physical competition is the more the adrenaline junkie in me takes over, which is why for the last two years I've been fitting in as many jiu jitsu and muay thai/kickboxing classes into my schedule as I can at Trevor's Grudge Training Center in Wheat Ridge. While I love all of the people at Grudge I'm pretty much the only guy there that I know of who is really interested in Eddie's system. Probably has a lot to do with most of the guys there being the badass amateur wrestler types that do really well with just their wrestling and a bag full of the classic jiu jitsu subs. Me on the other hand lol I'm a tall, skinny guy that's pretty much the polar opposite of the diesel wrestler types that can primarily focus on their top game. I think I could really benefit from a system like Eddie's that seems to have more of a focus on cutting-edge "unorthodox" techniques from the guard.
So yeah... that's who I am, and that's why I'm "here". Looking forward to learning a lot, getting to know you all, and hopefully even getting to train with some of you.
LL&P!

Greetings Loki,
Welcome to Denver! I'm looking forward to getting together with you and the other Colorado 10thPJJ fans soon to drill some fav techniques. Also glad to see you're studying chemistry & biology. I've always felt that O-Chem and jiu-jitsu go well together. You'll have a PHD and blackbelt in no time! Be sure and subscribe to the MTS series. It's awesome.

I got a homie up in Denver right now that has a degree in biomechanical engineering but said FUCK IT and became a high end landscaper kid knows more about plants than anyone I've ever met [he's a total stoner but refuses to grow bud or teach anyone how #seriouslydude] and I might be up there with a couple DJ friends of mine for some music festival shit at the end of the month hopefully I'll have atleast an a couple hours worth of time when I'm not tripping my balls off to drop in and catch a roll somewhere.

hey buddy, good intro!
no need to be calling yourself FNG, new people join all the time and plenty of us dont really notice till they join in with conversations or ask questions etc.
on a side note, what are your opinions on rape, and rape jokes?

One of the paradoxes that I appreciate the fuck out of about the martial artists that I've met over the years is that pretty much all of them have been some of the nicest people that I've ever met despite the fact that they have trained themselves to be able to kill other human beings with nothing other than their bodies. It's funny how that works IMO. There's something about having the capacity to take life in such an intimate manner and knowing that your's could be ended in the same fashion that it for whatever reason tends to shape people into really cool human beings.
Anyway lol much thanks for the warm welcomes everyone.
Kendell: I've never really had a conversation with Shane other than the friendly hello here and there. The times that I see him the pro guys are getting ready to do their thing with Trevor and I refuse to be "that guy" that forces some awkward conversation with someone that I wouldn't know anything about if I wasn't the fight nerd that I am. If a conversation with Shane ever organically arises however I'll definitely pass on your hello.
Brandon: From the time I joined till the time I ETSed the only MOS's that I ever came into contact with were either 11 series or 18 series guys so if you don't mind dropping some knowledge on me... what exactly is the title/job description of a 19 Kilo? As for the selection thing... sorry to read that you didn't make it through, but at least you had the ambition/balls to give it a try. SFAS is no joke and definitely ranks among the most difficult things I've ever done in my life. Team Week especially. How long ago was your selection class? Have you seen that show they did a while back on the Discovery Channel where they follow a class through the assessment and selection process? If you haven't it might be pretty interesting for you to go back and "reminisce" over. I think the entire episode is up on youtube. Here's the trailer for it...

Rock D: I've been in Denver for about 2 years now, but thanks for the welcome regardless. I'm really looking forward to linking up with all of the 10th Planet playas here in Colorado as well man. Although I'm in theory leaning towards the twister as my favorite technique given that it seems to get Eddie's system the props that it deserves from the mainstream media whenever someone pulls it off... I can't say that I have a legit favorite 10th Planet technique yet given that my jiu jitsu training has all been done under traditional Gracie Jiu Jitsu instructors. I won't be taking O. Chem until the fall semester of my junior year (I'm a "sophomore" right now), but you've definitely sparked my interest as to why you've felt that it goes well with jiu jitsu. As far as the having a PhD and a black belt in "no time" thing goes lol I'd geek the fuck out if I'm able to accomplish either of those things because both of them would be a dream come true. If it does happen though I think it's likely to take an extensive amount of time, which IMHO is the way that it should be. Lastly.. I signed up for a year of the MTS series, but to be completely honest I haven't watched any of the videos yet because I've had my nose buried in Eddie's Mastering the RG. I have seen some of the edited versions of them though with the pranks/skits with Renato, and yes lol that shit is indeed awesome. Lastly lastly lol which of Amal's schools are you training at? Are they cool with people from Grudge coming in for any kind of open mat type deal? If so let me know the details cause I'll definitely show up so we can rep the 10th JJ game together.
Dustin: What festival might you be up here for? Either way let our little Colorado crew know. The more people we can get in on any kind of impromptu, unofficial hotbox the better IMO.
Karim: Ummm lol your question about rape and rape jokes give me the impression that...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpoYMGhH-CA&NR=1
To humor you though I think that it depends on the context. I mean lol I "rape" all day when I'm playing Black Ops if you know what I'm saying. In that context "rape", "rapage", and "get raped" are all active parts of my vocabulary. So... I guess my opinion is that I'm all for rape and rape jokes.
lol
I think?

So... a couple questions for anyone that knows...
1) what belt color am I supposed to be using on here? I thought that I read somewhere that Eddie wants us to use whatever belt we are in his system, but it seems like quite a few people are using the belts earned outside of it. I don't really care either way, and by no means trying to rat people out or cause e-drama. Just looking for a definitive answer.
2) anyone know how long gear ordered from the Melee Fight Gear website takes under the standard $8 shipping that they offer? I would assume the usual 3-5 business days, but wasn't sure since their site doesn't say anything about it. If it is the usual 3-5 days does anyone know somewhere that carries the ronin t-shirt that will do 2nd day air? I'm probably going to be doing the grappling x tournament this coming Sunday and would like to be able to properly rep the 10th P.
3) would it even be cool for me to rep 10th Planet at a tournament even though I've only been officially training Eddie's system in detail for about a week or two?
Thanks :D

Hey bud welcome. You can use the belt you are, he honors every belt up to brown. Melee very good about shipping id say about 3 to 5 is about right. Hey again welcome and good luck.
