My love/hate relationship with GNC...

I decided to drop into GNC the other day when I was at the mall to check out a couple prices on vitamins and I overheard something a little disturbing, maybe you have heard something similar. Another guy pops into the store and starts asking the clerk some very basic questions: "How do I get mass, how do I cut a little weight, ect, ect." Basically it was a young guy who worked a construction job and thought adding a few supplements to his diet would help him out a bit. Without taking a second to discuss a weight training or exercise regimen the clerk put on his "I'm a pharmacist but not really" voice and started spouting off a laundry list of supplements that this guy really should be taking. It was at that point I decided to step in and make things really awkward.

Me: So you a dietician, personal trainer something like that? Sounds like you know alot.
Clerk: Thanks man I appreciate that.
Me: So where did you go to school for this kind of stuff?
Clerk: Naw man, They gave us this really big packet with lots of information in it when I trained for the job. So thanks again for the compliment.
Me: It wasn't a compliment, I just think people can be irresponsible with information sometimes. But you know what, this guy (pointing to the other customer) asked for your opinion and thats what you gave him, I just hope he asked for a doctor's opinion at some point before significantly altering his intake.

I realized then that neither one of the guys gave a single fuck about what I was saying, so I abandoned any purchase I was thinking about and left the store. I don't know how many of you have been in a similar situation, but makes me sad in this day and age of Google.

It's a balance, at some point one needs to do their own hw too....personally use Nutrilite and a mix of a few other companies for my diet these days (with a good visit to McD's and dessert as needed). But yeah I hear ya, sometimes the person giving info can get too into it (I've been guilty a couple times myself). Give credit to GNC though, they do make a solid bankroll each year (haven't gone the way of Bradles Kay Bee or Lebron's stock for that matter)

Fuck GNC, and fuck 99 percent of the supplements they carry ESPECIALLY anything from Muscletech!
If your diet is on point you shouldn't need any of that horse shit. Eat well, take a multi, some extra vitamin C and fish oil.
Done dizzle.

GNC is the biggest rip off ever! They literally double the prices of supplements

yeah to hell with GNC. prosource.net is where i always go...the prices are insanely better

I really dont use many supplements myself as I can't afford to take them regularly, and as a matter of choice. A Multi-vitamin and whey protein is what I have stuck with and I seem to be ok. Granted I don't look like a body builder, but who really wants wants gym muscles over cage muscles?

yeah i figured id help some people out financially lol. and i agree, i just need protein and vitamins and im set. a few years back when i was addicted to lifting weights and hadnt gotten into jiu jitsu yet, i was taking pre-workout stuff, protein, vitamins, extra amino acids, and glucosamine and chondroitin...now im not so crazy about all that stuff lol

He is a salesman though...just saying, it's his job to sell as much as he can.
I don't like that place either, especially the way I get looked at going in there
being a smaller guy. You did everything you could really, if they don't care to
hear it, well shit, it ain't on you then.

So you are upset that a customer asked an employee about the products that are sold in the store he works at and then recommended the stores' products? What did you expect?

You guys should check out www.atlargenutrition.com Not sure how it stacks up with prosource, but i've been happy with the stuff to price ratio.

What i like about prosource is not only the prices but the huge selection. Im not trying to sound like a salesman here, im just partial to them lol. I have heard good things about bodybuilding.com too tho.
