I think I broke my toe today

I was rolling today with a friend who is a little over 50 pounds bigger than me. I don't even really know what happened other than I got swept and some and posted out and all of my weight and his came down on my big toe. It hurt pretty bad but it was during my very first roll today so I trained through it, probably had 10 or 15 more matches but now that I'm home it fucking hurts. It's getting pretty swollen. It might just be badly sprained but I'm not sure. Has anyone had a similar injury? How did you treat it?

A lot of injuries dont hurt until your body cools down. If it hurts for more than 2 weeks it most likely broken and will be annoying for at least 30 days. Happens to people all the time. Cant do much except tape it to your other toes. A doctor could xray it but they will tell you they cant do much for it and still charge you and maybe give you some pain killers to get addicted to... Ice, ice, and more ice. Arnica gel aka Arniflora can help with the swelling if you want a odorless pain reliever and swelling reducer, so people your are rolling with dont have Icy Hot mixed with sweat burning there eyes. I think theres some other stuff I forgot. Keep it elevated. Oh yeah, and ice it some more.

I've never broken a big toe but with my pinky i used tape to continue training. A couple people at my gym have broken big toes and bought wrestlers shoes to let it heal while training.

I tape my big toe every time I roll. or it will roll. broke the ligament and it popped sideways I had to snap it back. since then tape it the answer or wrestling shoes. Welcome to the klan ;)

Yeah man I have done a similar thing. I swept someone and they landed on my big toe and it hurt a little so I kept rolling also, it hasn't been the same since. Now its all stiff and swells up. I went to a physician and there was nothing he could do. He said keep doing range of motion and strengthen it. After it healed of course.

Turf toe is what I had in my big toes. It hurt very bad. I thought I tore something. Felt better after a month or so.

Its kinda like jamming twisting pulling your finger while doing gi. Only Gi can judge me!

That sucks. I broke my toe setting up rugby posts before a match. I then played a full match with it taped up in my boot. Fun times.

Broke my ring finger rolling a month ago and did not go to the dr but now wish I did. Still bothers me when I roll. Everyone just said there was nothing they could do for a finger.

You can use something like popsicle sticks to keep it
straight if it's broken. Just tape it up really well with
something straight and flat so it doesn't get misshapen.

Dude at least 6 weeks to heal. I have been fighting toes injuries all career long! As far as no gi grappling goes, thats 5 yrs so far but over all ........forever. Tape em and keep training! If I had to stop training every time I got busted I would be no where. Workaround it as best as possible and find a way to try stay on the mat.
