Corky me and a few others train near HArvard during the school year-we should be starting up soon in the Fall. We do mainly regular wrestling and jitsui, but I've been trying to mix in some 10th pjj along with some standup striking too (or wanting us to get into it). Let me know if you want in (free membership, although sometimes we have to pay a guest fee at the gym).
I refuse to be hooked into a meaningless internet arguement. However, I would really like to know your reasoning behind opening a school. What qualifications do you have? How many years have you personally trained in a martial art? These are not accusations, just a request for more information.
I've personally taught at schools where children and adults were checked for weapons before entering. I've instructed police departments in 3 states. All of this before age 15. I've literally given decades of my life to martial arts and still question my ability to operate a school. I'm just curious as to your background sir.
There's a few good schools in Boston. I do some cross-training at TapouT in the North End, I would highly recommend them. There's also Wai Kru, Kenny Florian's place, Sit Yod Tong, Combat Sports, Gracie Barra, BMAC, and more probably that I don't know off the top of my head.
Sure thing, we've got a Google group going (I need to check myself on when our next practice is). Kinda tough with the end of summer approaching.....congrats on starting at Lesley btw!!!!Quote:
I would like to get in on this. I'm starting at Lesley in the fall, and would love to work with some local people.
I used to train at Wai Kru and that place is legit (at least when I was there). The Tap Out center is run by the same guy, Kru John. John "Doomsday" Howard trains with the. The guy who was the head jiu jitsu instructor, Alex Costa, broke off and started his own school (Gracie Barra on Newberry st). If you're just gonna do jiu jitsu I'd go train with Alex. The dude is awesome! Super knowledgable and he cares a bunch about his students.
Other than those, like the dude said there is Florian's in Brookline. Dan Simmler also has a school but im not sure where it's at.
Good luck!
Simmler is in Worcester
Thx everybody :) i just moved to mass about a week ago and i am starting to get things settled down
That reminds me, how are things in MA now Corky? Fun place to live eh?
Corky's been gone a while and wont be coming back.
i was so happy he left, but now there's 2 more idiots on the forum who had to step up and double the loud mouthed idiocy...
