Grabbing The Trachea?

Hey guys!

I was invited to come roll with some brown belts at a Shotokan Karate school here in Florida. Their focus is primarily standup but they do grapple and use submissions like armbars, kimuras, etc.

I rolled with the instructor and he kept grabbing my trachea (he warned me that he'd be doing it). The first time I barely got his hand off me in time before passing out and the second time I puked a little in my mouth!

I had to hide my neck when passing his guard and when he was in my guard because he kept shooting that freaking hand in and it just stopped me in my tracks.

Does anybody incorporate this into their jits? Is it legal in competition?

I don't think it's legal in any tournaments. I see the self defense application of the technique but it's totally not cool when you're sparring. You're not trying to hurt your training partners.

It's a dick move like the can opener that people do when they don't know how to pass the guard.

Maybe street or self defense jiu jitsu. Sounds like he is just an asshole and definitely not legal in comp.

Don't waste your time with that prick again.

are you talking rape choke or full finger tip pressure on your trachea, because if he is doing full out selfdefense moves then eye gouge him.

when he warns you beforehand that he's gonna grab your trachea warn him beforehand that you're gonna stab him.

Did he rape choke you? Or steven seagal rip your throat out?

@Tyler, @The kza - full on fingertip pressure on the trachea and on the adjacent artery. After about 10 seconds of pressure you're blacking out! If he were really trying to hurt me (his explanation), he would just sink his fingers further back and pull back on the trachea, Steven Segal style, which apparently works haha

@Jon - Yea he kept reiterating that their focus is on self-defense and he was actually super friendly, let me roll without charging me a drop in fee and then picked my brain for BJJ techniques for like an hour! We actually went and smoked some hookah afterwards with a mutual friend and just talked martial arts all night.

As far as bitch moves go, everybody has different things that annoy them when they roll. Personally, I'm trying to learn how to defend myself and win competitions and I'll use whatever's legal and works and I *want* my partner to do the same because nobody's doing me any favors in a bar fight or tourney or taking my feelings about a particular move into consideration. Used to be that you'd be boo'd off the mats at bjj tournaments for using leg locks but now hella dudes are hunting for heel hooks.

Ok. Then just go for eye gualges, throat rips, and junk locks all session. Im doing you a favor by attempting to blind and castrate you, because muggers and street fights play out like this. Its your time.

I actually think this sounds reasonable, from the other guy's perspective If this guy sounded like a friendly, open minded guy trying to learn what works, and not trying to hurt anyone, then letting him do his attacks and seeing what happens is fine. I would never do the move in a gym, but if he warned beforehand, and used it as a choke, but did not put enough pressure to risk injury or pull back or anything violent, it sounds okay to me. That's why I always look into places before I visit them; I want to know what I'm getting myself into.

But if he gets desperate and starts being too much of a dick about, see everyone's above posts about how to respond.
