Report: Trainer Shawn Tompkins Dead at 37

Shawn TompkinsFamed kickboxing trainer Shawn Tompkins has passed away at 37-years-old, TapouT’s Mike Straka announced Sunday just minutes before UFC on Versus 5.

Tompkins trained the likes of Sam Stout, Chris Horodecki, Mark Hominck, Vitor Belfort, and Wanderlei Silva while coaching at TapouT Training Center and previously Xtreme Couture, which he left in 2009.

According to Straka, Hominick was in Canada with members of his team and additional details are pending, while an autopsy is also scheduled.

Damn. Although I've never meet him, he seemed to be a very good trainer and person.

Very strange for such a healthy young man to just drop dead. Does he have any enemies? Pre-existing heart/brain issues? I hope not drugs. These are questions that investigators like myself are asking right now. We'll have to wait for the autopsy results.

I'm very curious myself. Whatever it was, it's a huge tragedy. He was a major pillar of the MMA community... this is a huge loss for the sport.
