Mma is about challenging what is best for a self defense fight. Now how many fights do you get into with people not wearing clothes? The cage has rules so you are limiting yourself by following them. The GI is where it is!!!!

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not. Where I live, nobody is ever wearing pants or long-sleeve shirts and it's rare to find a collar that would lend itself to your collar chokes.
What is ruining MMA is rules. There are too many. No face stomps! No kicks to the groin! No shots to the back of the head! No 12 to 6 elbows! No holding the fence! etc. All this should be legal.
Where I live we use loads of clothing, but usually hard to come by something thats as durable as a GI.
I think training with the GI improves your bjj loads instead of just training NOGI, but in a selfdefence situasjon you are way better off not even considering using GI techniques.
And MMA is about who is the best in MMA not really self defence like it was in the first UFC's where the Gracies just wanted to show off using bjj on ppl with no grappling experience.
i learned the spear hands technique in tkd class and im sure i would kill Brock lesnar in a real fight
LoL, where's Renato Lajara? He got my back. I'm actually trying to get my local mma promoter tp do a sambo type fight in Gi. It would be bad ass..
& that's cool considering all the people who turned them down when they offered to show what bjj was, all thease karate dudes thought they were the shit & quickly realized fighting is about more than punching & kicking, lets not forget where All of us who train in jiujitsu came from
and the GI is invaluble when it comes to self defence, so i do Gi & no GI why limit yourself, & i have female students also & want to give them all of what jiujitsu has to offer not just half, that wouldn't be fair to them
I respectfully differ good sir.

Here is solid proof that the Gi is better...
No-Gi versus Gi grappling:

Saying the Gi is better is laughable. From wrestling and Jiu Jitsu I have 10 years of grappling experience, have done some Amateur mma fights and I have ended up in a couple fights in my life. Nothing to brag about but I consider myself knowledgeable, Gi is for those who are interested in playing a game, No Gi is for self defense. No article of clothing is as durable as a double threaded Gi. You can't collar choke someone wearing a t-shirt or a sweat shirt without tearing it. Trying to a otherwise is a joke, and an indicator of lack of real world experience. I would also wonder why one is one the 10th planet forums if they tout the Gi as supreme....
No shorts either!
So with 10 years experience the GI has helped you nothing?
See, I was guessing that your grip is wicked strong from training in the GI for 10 years and perhaps even your technique is better from training in the GI where everything is about 1/4 of the speed of NOGI.
I personally enjoy training NOGI the most, but I think not using the GI will do nothing but hurt your overall bjj game.
But your GI on even when punching the bag, will make you stronger and faster when the GI is off
talking about gi vs nogi is like saying judo is better then wrestling (ala Mr. Bravo), different sports guys.
and i don't know about you guys, but if a rapist attacks me (with his jean jacket), i'll be grabbing the head and getting under hooks getting him in my rubber guard, double bagging, getting the zombie, clearing the neck and choking him with my smelly ass foot, not grabbing the collar and pulling them down and trying to choke him with his collar.
but what do i know, i'm just a white belt, i'm sure the brown belts will rip apart my arguement since they've learned with the gi for the past 15 years...what are they suppose to say?
but one thing about the gi, it looks pretty cool.
Its hard to try to get a .GIF to play lol
Seriously train in plain clothes that your wear every day after you learn all the gi techniques. You will be amazed at how much stuff works. collars are strong most of the time to get in bow and arrow chokes or use the clothes to break an arm, grab the pants to w/e. pull the shirt up and twist it around their neck. To me "pulling-guard" is stupid as hell. you really are going to just give that rapist your butt hole aye.?
Am I the only bro who takes his clothes off before a street fight? I ain't going to shred my Ed Hardy gear over some beef.
When I get in street fights, I usually go to inverted or spider guard.
For one, it makes me look tough. And secondly I can sweep for points
from that position. After that I work for knee on belly, then go back
to standing just to prove I'm not trying to just win by points.
Since the gi vs nogi debate has popped up again, I'm curious. How many of you that trash on the gi have actually trained in it to form an opinion about it? And aren't just going off of what other people say about the gi.
I've trained the majority of my 6 years sans the gi. I still enjoy puting it on and rolling with the pajamas. Its fun. Jiu jitsu is jiu jitsu and unless you're really focusing on mma or adcc there's no need to be a hater
It's interesting how the same moves hurt the same way
in and out of the gi. Who would have thought that a RNC
would work in a gi?
I hate how this thread a has become a real discussion, but fuck it...
It's not as if training in the gi makes you forget that you're not
wearing one when you're...well not wearing one. You don't suddenly
start reaching for invisible material when the need arises.
I've got 2 yrs under my belt one in gi one without, I don't like the gi, and for comps and or fights i don't use it, but it's fun in downtimes. going from gi to nogi the only thing isee as a problem is w/ sleeve control it makes you rely on wrist control in nogi, which can be hard. I do focus alot on no gi comps and mma but like i said I'll play in pjs every once and awhile.
True, I don't suddenly forget no Gi moves that I have practiced in a Gi. But whats the point of training with a Gi, if its not applicable to self defense or MMA? I would much rather get used to not being able to dig my hands into someones Gi and get used to grappling when things are slippery. There is definitely something to be said there.
On a different note Renato Laranja is a Soap actor....

I pick fights @ nude colonies and on porn sets.
That's not renato it's his twin! They where put up for adoption one became a 27 time bjj champ the other a soap actor? Wow that sounds like a Jean claud van dame movie
The Gi will give you magic powers like flight if you put it on and tie the belt properly. Go to your nearest roof and try it. It works for me every time, with a few bad landings at first, I got it down.
