Windows XP...sorry
restart it
^^^Yeah that's probably the fastest/easiest/best way solve the issue.
Hopefully you've got it solved by now
Yeah, restarted it and still nothing. Uninstalled realtek audio device reinstalled it...nothing. I can't update drivers because of admin permissions. Lame.
I assume this is through your speakers and headphone that it will not work?
*headphones plugged directly into the computer, not the speakers.
I havent tried headphones, but yeah the speakres in the laptop.
do you see any errors/warnings in the device manager? (should look like an exclamation point)
I know you said you reinstalled the drivers but are they the newest? sometimes an update will have a fix included for something like this
Also, what model of laptop?
I have not been able to update the drivers because of admin permissions. Dell Latitude 2110
No warnings or errors in device manager also
ok, I take it this is a work-owned laptop? If so I would have your IT contact at work look at it if possible. There aren't many things you can do to fix this without admin rights. Everything you are saying points to a driver issue or something addressed by a hotfix, but none of that can be accomplished if you do not have rights to install drivers/software.
Sorry I couldnt be of more help
Yep, work computer, thanks for the help.
my soundcard went out on my dell not too long ago. tried EVERYTHING. hope thats not the case bro...
same exact scenario, put it to standby, woke it up and nada. :/
I think something came loose because I had a video playing and moved the screen forward like I was closing it and the sound came back.... :( The speakers are along the sides of the screen.
Hammer swing=fixed
Yeah, it's bad design to rig so many cables into the monitor flap.
It's quite possible that something got snagged or just eventually
has been worked out of place or off the solder.
Try some headphones next time you're at work, at least then
you'll know if it's the card/drivers, or the speaker connection.
Try This
In Conrol Panel -> System -> Select the Device Manager and find the Sound entry. Expand it. Click the entry for High Definiton Audio Device with the right mouse button. Uninstall it and the software too (check the box).
Now put the PC to sleep. When it restarts it will reinstall the Audio device.
Let me know how you get on
make sure you dont have the mute box selected
If it is a loose wire, open that baby up and have a look :)
Mike - if you still need help with it or want me to look at it for you, bring it in with you to the gym and i'll see if i can help, but its a DELL so you might be hosed :p
