OLD NEWS haha
Yep..Same as the "if you come out of your room when Santas comes he won't give you any presents" tactic that your parents used to use...Just trying to scare you out of using common sense...which allows them to control you.
5 Things You Won't Believe Aren't In the Bible
Angels and the Devil is on the list
http://www.cracked.com/article_18757...-in-bible.html
well religion has nothing to do with what God wants. Religion is man's pursuit of God.
Same as Heaven is invented as incentive to be good?
My religion has given me so much happiness and connection with God. My heart has been touched by his noodley appendage.

Wow... I don't agree with that guys view on religion.... Just like I don't agree with the majority of people on this forum about their views of religion.
I thought this was a Jiu Jitsu forum anyway.
Not new... Just tired of it....
Well, at least he has it halfway figured out.
The 2nd of the 8 "I'd Really Rather You Didn'ts" of the Pastafarian Bible
2. I’d really rather you didn’t use my existence as a means to oppress, subjugate, punish, eviscerate, and/or, you know, be mean to others. I don’t require sacrifices, and purity is for drinking water, not people.
This enlightened priest understands that subjugation through fear is not good religion. His views seem very Pastafarian in nature.
May he forever be blessed in Pastafarian Heaven.

religion itself was invented by Aliens to control people, it's all just misunderstood technology, just like dudes in mma who try rubber guard and don't know what the hell there doing. overhooking the ankle ect. misunderstanding flying ships for something spiritual & devine ect.
No. Hell is spoken of in the bible. Unless that priest doesn't agree that the bible is the final authority of his faith, hell was not invented by the church. It was discussed in the bible frequently. Also, if you don't consider the bible to be the final authority of your Christian faith, why become a Christian? Sorry, I see too many holes in this priest's statement.
Can't view the list from work...but angels and the devil is definitely in the bible. I've actually bothered to read the thing.
It is. And we discuss a lot of different things. We don't always agree, but for the most part, everyone's pretty respectful.
Not sure what you're tired of. But I mean, you always have the option to not participate in the discussion.
"Also... you're "tired" of what?"
Should have elaborated.... Tired of the media finding people with radical views on what their religion is and publishing it to the masses as though it is a true representation of that religion. I cannot help but feel like the media intentionally finds people with controversial views and gives them a very public spotlight in order to get their ratings up. If Dateline NBC wishes to explore the teachings of Episcopalians, why not have an Episcopal segment in every Dateline episode? Maybe I'm wrong, but I would think there are a lot of Episcopalians who would disagree with what retired Bishop John Shelby Spong has to say.
The media has a way of only reporting negatively on religious individuals without showing what the everyday person of that religion is about. The Catholic church has been drug through the mud because of the molestation scandal. Does that mean every Catholic is a molester? Should we judge Pres. Obama for what Jeremiah Wright has to say in his sermons? Should we judge the Christian community in Florida because Pastor Terry Jones wants to burn a Quran? Should we judge the entire Muslim community for the extreme actions of individuals who call themselves Muslim?
Where is the Dateline episode that shows the good deeds Muslims commit in their communities?
Where is the Dateline episode for the good deeds of Catholics?
Do you see where I'm coming from?
My problem is not with a difference of opinion.
My problem is how the media can take one persons opinion and paint the whole community with that opinion and very seldom give the community a chance for rebuttal.
So, tired of it as I am, if I do not stand against it, then who will?
Also, my reaction to your post may have been a bit harsh.
Maybe you can clarify what your intention was in posting it.
"You have 74 total posts"
I find that I learn a lot more by listening than I do by talking.
See you tonight Jason!
I'll be one of your students listening.
=)
First of all...I am an atheist. I admit it and I posted this video because I love the idea of a priest calling out the church for fear mongering.
Secondly we can say with confidence that the church did in fact invent hell, just as it literally invented the bible you all read today.
When Europeans canonized the many books that make up today's bible, most of Europe was illiterate. The fact that any modern, educated person can be "Christian" after we have learned about the corrupt process of the canonization of the Christian bible is insane to me.
A group of corrupt, wealthy, educated, super privileged European men sat around and decided what you would learn from these texts and what you wouldn't. There was no oversight. They could add, omit, or straight up delete forever any information they deemed fit. That is the quick history of the bible.
Evolution. If the student never questions the master, then he can't consider himself open minded. By basing his life on a book written 2000 years ago by people, not by God, he is living life too linear. Why not explore yourself, use the knowledge you have (this doesn't apply to some) and make your OWN decision.Quote:

Awee Jay, just because I can't prove that The Flying Spaghetti Monster exists, because he is undetectable by current technology AND, doesn't mean that he and his noodley appendages don't exist!
Here is a rare cosmic sighting of the FSM as seen from the Hubble telescope.

Good post. I feel you.
LOL'd at the spam.
That's where presuppositions come in. You presuppose the bible was written entirely by man with his own agenda and so the texts are corrupt. That priest, considering that he's a Christian, presupposes that God inspired the text. So it makes no sense to say "God inspired this, but man made it up." But that also goes into presuppositions about how sovereign you believe God to be. Not attacking you bro. I'm just saying there are holes in his statement.
This is true. Weird how they left it out since the book of Jude clearly references it as a reliable text. Hmmmmm?
I got a chance to read the list. And again, I have read the whole bible. The list confirms angels ARE in the bible; just not the way that catholic artists depicted them. They also confirm that the devil is indeed in the bible. Again, just not the way artists have depicted it. So yeah bro, my statement stands. Seems more like you skimmed the list. Again, no beef. Just saying what it is.
Morally, I'm a horrible Christian. But I have done my research. Read into other religious texts. Read into origin theories from science and other religious texts. I've done that. The conclusion that I've arrived at from research and experience is that God is real. What/who He is exactly still slips my grasp. I still have a ton of questions. So does science. Why are we the only planet with life for millions of light years? How did we evolve in such a short period of time? Are there other dimensions? Can we access them? The list goes on. In the end, I conclude that it's either luck, God, or aliens. To me, I feel like it's a mix of the last two. God does exist and what we call aliens now, ancient civilizations called angels, demons, gods, etc.
I've just come accross too much info that doesn't jibe well with history, match and science to NOT believe in God. I can't use the tools that science gives me and conclude we're a cosmic accident.
And I feel that more and more people are "seeing through the BS" because they grow up in school being taught the theory of evolution and no other valid theory. Creationists have valid theories. UFO'logists have valid theories. I've heard the argument, "do you think a child can be trusted to make his own decisions on these things?" That's hypocritical since you're still feeding them ONE theory involuntarily. I believe that if all theories were presented in schools, we'd have more diversity of opinion. Most of the people "seeing through the BS" are basically ingesting and regurgitating what they were given...not what they learned for themselves with an open mind.
The irony of the open mind argument is that it seems people are open to everything except religion. So the accusation of closed mindedness applies just as much to those people as it applies to the people they accuse.
Listen, honestly, I'm not trying to debate. I'm only responding to responses. Giving a different side of the coin, if you will. Don't automatically black list me and have animosity toward me for thinking differently. I've been a part of this board for a while and never shoved my beliefs on anyone. I don't plan on it either. I just felt it was necessary to chime in on that priest since it makes no sense. It would make more sense for an atheist to make that claim.
I hope we're all good. I appreciate all you guy's responses.
Well what does "God" want? Because who could ever know what he wants since this mythical creature never shows up. If somebody knows what he wants then that person is making up whatever he's got in his head or is basing what "God" wants on books written by men...So you faithful really don't have a relationship with "God"!!!! The faithful have a relationship with a character from a book written by men, so without Religion there's no "God". So someone tell me what "god" wants or thinks without using a book and I want your source!!!!!!!
God wants us to eat pasta, drink beer, and to increase the world population of pirates in order to reduce and eventually eliminate global warming.

I agree completely. But my point isn't that God exists or not, but the choice that I can either follow ONE group who think they are right, or try and take the best out of every religion and make myself a better person rather than be part of group that don't condone other religions or others for not believing in anything. That's what the highest belief of Christianity is, and most other religions too other than Buddhism and such like it that promote believing in what you feel, rather than in what a book of metaphors written by people more misguided than we are today with unbelievable stories that literally are that, unbelievable.Quote:

When it comes to it, the fact is we don't know what's there and we probably won't know until we are dead. But I like to believe there are multiverses and different dimensions, and that psychedelic trips that are visualizations possibly similar to those when you die, which could lead you to believe that when people say angels, they mean the geometric patterns that you see when you are tripping balls. A higher state of consciousness. That seems more like a "heaven" to me than sitting on a cloud in human form, they just didn't have the language to describe it back then.
Its a book Kiko. Written by humans. I put your "god" over with the "Scientology" group.
You have no damn clue. I have a huge client base here so I am constantly battling between my lack of filter between my brain and my mouth and my desire to continue having a healthy relationship with my customers. It's hard when, in conversation, one might say "be sure your kid says his prayers" not to tell them to go fuck themselves for being so presumptuous about my beliefs.
But it seems to be getting better for us. We found an Atheist/Humanist group here so we aren't completely alone and I tend to keep a distance from outsiders anyway so a large peer group isn't necessary for us to function and be happy.
Or...when you die there's nothing.
You're 100% correct Jack. And it possibly can be 100% made up by humans without a single shred of evidence *much like any other religion,* but if I'm going to buy into some crazy bat$#!+ religion, and they all are bat$#!+ crazy, I'm going to pick the one with a Heaven that has BOTH a beer volcano and a stripper factory and has declared every Friday as a religious holiday and one that has this "I'd Really Rather You Didn'ts." Also, you can't beat a religion whose holy garment is full pirate regalia complete with spaghetti strainer/collander for a holy headpiece.

Nice not to feel alone in your beliefs (agnostic) living in the Bible belt. Grew up beleiving all the churches were secret hate cluts, hating other churches cause their not as Christian as us, hating other religous groups cause we're right and your wrong, and today using it to push their polical agenda. Thought it was based on caring for others, but only if you believe like I do.......
