Ultimate Gracie on Spike TV

I have to say, I watched this special and it gave me chills.

It was 1995 when I watched UFC 1 with my buddies on VHS. I was fifteen.

When I was a kid, everyone always talked Bruce Lee. Every American kid, shit...maybe every kid in the world has heard the legend of Bruce Lee. We had his films, his books, his message, but he was long gone.

Royce Gracie was my Bruce Lee. Royce was real, tangible, and changing history right before our eyes. Royce was, still is, and will always be one of my heroes.

I just want to take a second and thank Royce Gracie. For everything he has done for the sport that we all love.

Royce unveiled BJJ to everyone in the western world.

Royce will always be a legend to me.

yeah, my DVR recorded about 30 minutes of that, wish I would have set it to record that as well, cause I was way into it. But the part I did get to watch was pretty sick.

I saw that cheet! It was very inspiring! Yet, however, for me, it was weird to see Rickson and Royler in the Gracie train, when Royce is the less brilliant of the three.

Nonetheless, that was a great show and it made me proud to be a part of the greatest, most graceful martial art -- Jiu Jitsu. :)

I DVR'd it last night due to late night training, watched it today, it was amazing. Real good flick on Jiu Jitsu, and just how amazing this art is!

It's so crazy how we all love & are so inspired by people who hate us... Regardless, I still have the up-most respect for Royce & the Gracie Family for they are the reason I wanted to learn this life-altering art in the first place... Thank you Royce...

The interview with Severn was hilarious. That dude knows how to tell a story and he has a ton of them.

Agreed.

I can't remember the thing Severn said that had me rewinding a couple times cause it was so dang funny.

He said Royce wanted to quit and kept looking at his Dad to throw in the towel Helio kept crossing his arms saying no!!! Severn then said "that old bastered hes willing to let his Son die for Gracie JiuJitsu"

Im sure they will air it again. When watching the severn interview part I was thinking how cool it would be to have a dad willing to let you take a beating like that lol. Royce was willing to give everything for gracie jiu jitsu and Im sure he would have felt really shitty if his dad had thrown in the towel and stopped beleiving in the comeback power of jiu jitsu.

In the show Royce explained that that was the point. They knew that Rickson being more athletic would look far less impressive when he won, so they picked Royce because of his size and non athletic stature. That way Americans would see big, strong, dudes getting smashed by a tall skinny Brazilian. It is the greatest story ever. The David taking down the Goliath.

Royce single handedly drove BJJ's point home. The smaller, less athletic guy can find a way to win with leverage and technique.

This is very true. But can you imagin how sweet it would have been watching Rickson sweeping Ken Shamrock and slaping on a text book armbar form mount! or some crazy form of domination along those lines.

"Royce was the guy that used to watch the kids."

When that one guy said that, I died laughing.

I loved the special and it was super cool to hear from him (Royce) how he feels about it all.

Royce inspired a movement and I'm very grateful for that.
