I would go 93 guard immediately or if i could grab an overhook i would pimp arm and stomp...but im no pro.
nope, that leg isn't goin anywhere. Not to mention the pimp arm and various other techs to counter that
It seems like that you would make you vulnerable to the 5-0 sweep.
seems to me that would only work if a guy had a weak lockdown. in the vid the guy with the lockdown is kinda limp dickin it. just my opinion
i don't see how this would be possible. good luck snapping out of a good lockdown like that.
i'm not saying the lockdown is unbeatable, but that sure ain't the way to do it.
ok.. so i got the arm base down, i think ive got the leg swing down.. now, all i have left is to find an opponent who puts up 0% resistance to anything i should try, and I'm all set!
Yes, if you can break the grape vine then it's a normal off side half guard with an opening for a knee slice pass. However, breaking the grapevine is a battle. Like most moves shown in 3 minute video clips, what can be a drawn out struggle on the mats is presented as if it were one smooth technique designed to beat a person's game in one smooth action.
That would work really well against someone who doesn't know how to play lockdown.
My thoughts exactly. The supposed "lockdown" the other guy has is very weak. He is not extending his legs at all. Not to say this counter isn't valid; I just would want to see it if the guy was actually extending his lockdown the way us planeteers actually do.
I would like to add that Keith Owen had some very legit lockdown escapes that he does in "Keith Owen's favorite moves Vol 3" that are easier and in my opinion more effective.
beauty MG pass. havent seen that before. Thanks. I wonder how it will do against a tight extended lockdown, like say moving some one back down before stomp then grabbing the leg. Sounds like i have homework.
Dustin, I can't see the vid you posted. It's probably flash or something. iPad sucks. Anyways, if you can post a link I'll check it out.
As with any move/technique, there's always a counter. One shouldn't rely on lockdown to work 100% of the time.
Your opponent will have short legs, will have repped escaping, will be more aggresive, or will be able to slip through(sweat = less friction). Just know they may know how to get through, so anticipate and react first if possible.
Talk soon man.
Is it unreasonable to ask these guys to stop talking about stuff they don't know? Honestly, unless you know what a real lockdown is, you can't teach an escape to it. That guy can't call that a lock down escape because that ain't a lockdown. That's like saying a guy's in spiderweb because he's defending an armbar with his hands clasped. Just because it looks like a lock down doesn't mean it's a lockdown. Just because it looks like rubber guard doesn't mean it's rubber guard.
Marcelo's pass looked better, but I'd like to see how he would pass when the guy has tight double unders.
I don't really see what's wrong with this guy's video. It's definitely not some super-move, but if a guy loosens up the pressure on his legs (as people do all the time, since jiu jitsu is dynamic) you can definitely circle your leg out. I usually use my free leg to elevate the guy's legs and then circle my trapped leg out. I do that constantly.
I think there's a little defensiveness going on here. I didn't hear the guy say the Lockdown sucks.
Well i guess it boils down to preparing for an opponent with good tech vs a guy with bad tech. I personally would rather prepare for an opponent with good tech instead of bad because when i actually try to do this to a person who does lockdown right and i cant get my leg free then what. I have wasted time and energy on something because i relied on my opponent having bad tech. Just my 2 cents do disrespect. P.S. i think i escape lockdown the same way you do.
The easiest lockdown escape has to be the buttock compressor. I marvel in the fact that Eddie puts lockdown escapes out there and no one teaches them but him. But like someone said before...half guard with double unders is going to make something happen. I never see videos of any other instructor talk about "the fight" the way Eddie does. That concept of where "the fight" is blew my world up. Half guard, the fight is getting those double unders or preventing them.
I don't really see a problem with the lockdown escapes in those videos. Just why waste your time with them when you can learn solid escapes from the guy that invented the lockdown?
Who are you going to ask to take apart a rocket engine? The guy that designed it will most likely be the best suited for the job.
