if you have his left leg on your right shoulder:
1. squeeze and straighten your lockdown
2. travel completely onto your left hip
3. gable grip your hands just above his left knee
4. think "put my right shoulder on the mat"
5. put front of your left shoulder on the mat
most importantly, don't overcommit to the sub. if you find that he is too flexible to submit here, just take the sweep. that's still a small victory. beyond that, his resistance to the sub will inevitably leave him open for you to swim your left arm through the 5-hole and find yourself in Stoner Control. look for the Vaporizer finish from here.
Vaporizer is my shi
I like to switch their leg position to see if they are flexible doing a split with their legs pointing side to side and front to back if they let me then go to whatever else.
You should video yourself puttin it on someone. Could be any number of issues.
on a small side note i hit like 5 vaps this week in training (free roll) and it's only weds all from lockdown >electric chair>stoner c >vap.
Can you post a video to show the sequence from electric chair to stoner to vaporizer? Ive tried looking on the mts guides and youtube and cant seem to find it )=
The sequence is definitely in the rubber guard dvds
do you know which one?
DVD 1 mastering the rubber guard
Brandon is right on here - but I think its worth mentioning that the #1 - squeeze & extend the lockdown should be the LAST thing that you do to elicit a tap. If you do this before pinning the guys knee to the mat with your shoulders than you will find yourself struggling - your upper body just won't be strong enough to pin the guys knee if you already have the lockdown squeezed & extended.
In my experience this is where most people go wrong. If you can pin the guys leg to the mat with your shoulders 1st (or as close as you can get) - then when you finally do extend & squeeze your legs you'll get the tap on all but the most flexible guys. You'll have the combined strength of your hips & both legs against just one of your opponents legs - that is a battle I'll take every time!
I actually hit this in my last tournament & it was my favorite win of any of my matches so far. I hope this helps...

That's the guy that gave me my new favorite term - I use it every week in practice now 'Angry Rainbow! Angry Rainbow!'. The funny thing is I never heard the phrase before but I knew what you meant~
nice bro that was quick^^^
I love the Electric Chair, it was one of my first submissions that I learned. This video kicked it all off for me.

I usually squeeze that grip on the knee, then turn my shoulder with the leg to the mat with a tight lockdown.
i tried and tried last night but couldnt get it )= I got the sweep from there but kinda confused,am I supposed to post up and my left arm like the video or lay flat, whenever I post up, I feel like my balance is all off... could have been because I was doing it to a biggre guy maybe?
1) Make sure you are coming up on your elbow.
2)Constantly stretch your legs, from the moment you establish your lockdown to the point the submission itself. Its a common mistake to relax your legs while your are "angry rainbowing" up on to your elbow. Its at this point your opponent can "adjust" to alleviate the pressure if you fail to maintain that stretch.
3) Also make sure your ankles are stacked in the lockdown. Its another common mistake that the outside leg is mid calf to knee, make sure they are completely stretched out. Your legs should feel like they are both doing the same amount of work.
Thats excatly what I was doing last night, l was loosening up I think, Instead of extending the whole time... Man I love this forum... always helping and explain when others are confused... thanks again guys!
not naming names, but this part seems to be the key step alot of members dont do proper, just like eddie says you gotta work on your lockdown, its either TOO LOOSE or its tight but not pinching knees together thats where the painpressure comes from, up the leg to the spine to the rest of the body
Just when I think that I know what I'm talking about I find out that I'm just another asshole giving bad advise online...it's so disappointing to be that guy. So I re-watched the MTRG DVD instructions on this & see this detail and a few others that somehow I missed before.
Here is where I go off script
- I never post to my elbow, I try to roll towards my stomach.
- I hold the lockdown tight (ankles stacked) but curl my knees a little during the roll to give some room so that I can pin the guys knee with my shoulders.
- Once there my legs go from 50% to 100% extended for the tap.
I'm sure there's a great reason to post to the elbow & push for the tap with your upper body but I just don't understand it. What is the advantage to posting up on the elbow instead of staying down? I've been there before & I don't feel like I get as much leverage, thus less finishes. I feel way stronger if I use my legs to finish instead. I can clearly see this isn't how it looks when explained by the pros - I'm just confused since it has been working for me.
I read the comment that a common mistake is to relax the legs during the angry rainbow which can allow the guy to adjust. But I don't feel like I'm relaxing - I'm holding the lockdown tight just not extending fully. Is even that is enough of a window for an escape from my lockdown?
I'm really trying to understand if my bastardized version of the electric chair is legit or if its only working because I'm rolling with other white belts. I love this submission so I'm thrilled with the idea of improving this technique.
Im also confused because When i try to post on my arm, im trying to push forward and roll my shoulder to the mat,and I end up on my stomach anyways...and Im trying to stretch them out but I just get frustrated )= back to the drawing board again tonight... I love this submission so I have to figure it out until I get it, or its gunna drive me crazy!!!!
