Wow! I am all for disciplining a child, even the 16 year olds. But I feel this was excessive. I love my children. I will levy punishment based on what it is they have done wrong. But I can't imagine speaking to my child this way. The hate and venom in that man's voice - over a fucking video game? No wonder she's fucked up and immature at 16.

He was punishing her after, from what I can gather, multiple warnings about misusing the computer. Sure, it seemed unnecessary, and sure you say you wouldn't do that to your kid, but it isn't your kid, so why don't you stay the fuck out of it? It is none of your business how a father punishes his daughter as long as he ins't violently beating the shit out of her. I remember getting worse than that when I was younger, and I'm just fine. I'm not traumatized, I don't have behavioral issues because of it. If anything I learned a lesson from those hard-ass spankings. First, this is a message board. This IS the place to offer opinions on matters that sometimes (often times) don't actually involve us. Welcome to the 21st century.

Second, I can assure you I know what a belt feels like. Along with an extension cord, a water hose, the biggest switch I could pick, a pepsi bottle, a mayonnaise jar, an ashtray and all five of my dads fingers across the side of my face. It's not that he hit her with a belt that I have a problem with. It's the anger and belittling of his daughter. It's the verbal beating he's putting on her because how dare she be disobedient. This isn't about teaching her right from wrong it's about teaching her to fear him.

She recorded it in 2004 (when she was 16). Apparently his abuse didn't stop even after she moved out of the house. She finally released it after being repeatedly harassed by her father. The mother also left the father due to abuse.

I would respect no man that laid hands on me in that manner. Mom was also a victim of abuse. She was scared of this guy and eventually left him. It looks like this was her way of protecting her daughter from the maniac judge. Notice she took the belt away from the judge, of course jack ass went and got another one and came back. But it appears the mother was trying to protect the daughter and avoiding the violent wrath of the judge at the same time.

My father was an abusive (mentally and physically) person. He continues to be abusive although it's not nearly as effective now that he is old and I am grown. Without the huge sob story I can tell you this. I moved out when I was 12. He and I got into a fist fight when I was 15 and if not for a very close girlfriend of mine stopping me, I can almost assure you I would have killed him. I was arrested at 16 for shooting a man. I spent almost 2 years in the system and fortunately for me I was assigned a case worker that recognized my issues and placed me in a therapeutic environment (group home for abused and neglected children) instead of letting me rot in lock up. During my time at that group home I learned a lot about abuse and anger and self control. I learned that normal human beings don't do this type of shit to their children.

So yes, I am a pretty decent guy, a hell of a dad, and a contributing member of society. But it wasn't without years of therapy and counseling to recover from the shit that my father did to me.

So I think I have at least some authority to speak on this matter. If not this case in particular but at least abuse in general.
