Started Wrestling Today.

So my wrestling coach watched me ride and control a couple of his studs today. I just worked on staying heavy and keeping position. He said I was a natural. At the end the guys wanted to play around with jiu jitsu, so he let them take a shot at me. The Machine and 10th Planets rep stays intact.LOL. 5-0 all submitted within 1 period. :)

Still don't think I will ever be a superstar, but had more fun then i thought I would have.
My coach said at a tourny if I think I'm going to get pined at a tourny just go bat shit crazy and break the kids arm. He was kidding.......... I think. :)

Hit the weight room tomorrow !!!!!!!! Might watch Vision Quest for the 100th time before my first match to get pumped.lol.

Looks like they appreciate having you on the team. Enjoy the wrestling season.

Hopefully you'll fall in love with wrestling, it's massive when it comes to Mma :)

nice our gym now has a wrestling class on mondays and just the first class alone has help my arm drags to the back, i can only image training with wrestlers that would be sick..

+1 on watching Vision Quest! On the off season, hook up with Legendary Gene Mills in Phoenix, NY. There's no better instruction!!! He has a school there year round and they have a MMA program and some of the top wrestlers in the state. If he's see's potential he will try to recruit you.haha Even if its a couple times a month. You will benefit!

Wrestle as much as you can, it helped my game a lot and it made me a better competitor. Work on developing your shot.

Wrestling will be more beneficial to your development than just about anything else right now.

I used to train with Ray Newkirk former king of the cage champion. I met and trained with Gene Mills when I went to Rays. Dudes awesome. He taught me the Barbedwire move. His invention. stupidly painful.lol.

Really liking it so far. I used my jiu jitsu to hip check and stuff take downs today...... My coach came over and said he thought he loved me !!!! LOL.

Just wondering since I know jack and shizznit about how a wrestling match is scored and won, say you get to your opponenet's back, then swim move into perfect spiderweb, would that be considered a winning pin? Also would landing in the truck position be considered a pin? Just curious....and if you can pin guys like that, enjoy =D.

Nice Conner! Im personally not a fan of wrestiling because of what it has become in todays mma (A good wrestler takes down a fighter and lays on him). I dont like that tactic, at all. Thats why i have so much respect for fighters like, Nick Diaz, Junior Dos Santos, Anderson Silva, Mirko Cro Cop, Alistar Overeem. I consider these guys real fighters! If it helps your game though, than keep doing it :) just please dont become the next jon fitch haha.

If his shoulder, shoulder blades are down for 2 sec. its a pin! If the ref see's it. I don't believe it would work on a wrestler for a pin. A wrestler is not going to be worried about a arm lock. He would escape!

I've been doing more wrestling then Jiu Jitsu lately ... Mainly because we stopped having Jiu Jitsu at our MMA school ... Now it's just wrestling with some submissions. But it has seemed to have helped my Jiu Jitsu game.

The next generation of MMA Fighters are going to have to be at least Collegiate level to just survive in MMA. I also believe the wrestlers who do take downs and lay on their opponents will not survive in the next generation. Their going to have to be great at all aspects of the game. Including MMA guard work!!! Rubber Guard will be huge in 5 to 10 years in MMA.

I will NEVER be a guy that rides. But I have been ridin like a pony ride at the fair to many times by wrestlers, not to know I need to make it part of my game. I agree about the next generation..... I am one of those guys.

Think of it.... a high level wrestler with world class jiu jitsu skills. That will never ride, he will ground and pound or submit you....not hump your leg!!!! Add in some golden gloves level boxing and bone breaking leg power. Sounds dangerous doesn't it????

Crab ridin is stallin, but leg riding is offensive as hell. Its been the main way I score/pin good wrestlers. Is leg ridin frowned upon? I do get mixed reactions when I do it but I feel in good control and they practically give it to you.

Leg riding is the way to go. IMO. Crab riding can be offensive for back points. 2-3 point near falls, but not so much for pining, at least I haven't seen a lot of it.

I totally disagree with the argument that every fighter is gonna need a wrestling base to be at an elite level in the sport... People were probably thinking that about bjj too 20 years ago when royce was dominating with bjj yet today theirs elite fighters who dont train very much bjj but are still competing at a high level in the sport such as chael sonnen. I think for the next generation all you're gonna need is a good standup, good bjj, and great takedown defense.
