I like that alot. Thank you for this!
That is my instructor,Mike Simpson, from North Sound BJJ in Lake Stevens, WA. Super cool instructor and totally open minded. He is always working on new techniques and giving props to his students when they work new and unique stuff.
Thanks for sharing the video! Very interesting.
nah man i dont like this "new mount" at ALL, no idea where this dude got his belt from but if he knows the principals of jiujitsu he wouldnt be playing this game. hes "showing off" is what hes doing or even doing a MOUNT-SHORTCUT but i refuse to call his a legitimate position!!! theres no balance on that right knee on the mat, WHERES HIS BASE, sloppy mount play is what i say
GUYS GO BACK TO NORMAL MOUNT use this as a transition to armtriangles or gullotines or neckties but never use this as a STALLING POSITION cause they can get out pretty easily
No base? It's called hands. I've used this, and it works. Remember that in Jiu Jitsu, NOTHING is fool-proof. There's a counter to every single thing, so no point discarding something because there is a way out.
Usually when I do this people push so hard on the knee, you can underhook the pushing arm and take the armbar or take the back. But people don't like that shin on belly and them pushing you or bucking you off just sets up more stuff if you are waiting for it.
I cant tell if youre serious but if you are youre funny. Theres so many possibilities from there theres no way you can call that a stalling postition. The first thing someone is going to do is start pushing on that knee and trying to shrimp out. He showed two great/simple techniques for when that do that exact thing. Have you played with the position long enough to even base a legit opinion on it?
He's just trolling
I don't want to say that it just looks like a deep variation of a knee on belly, but what are the advantages of this iteration of mount versus just a standard knee on belly?
I would assume that grapevine will take away some mobility..Maybe be able to transition to some of the standard mount options pretty easily IE gangsta lean, S mount. Or be able to bail off to side control without being snared in a half guard
All speculation cause I havent tried it out yet
I really like this, and I am going to play with it. I like transitional positions, which is what knee-on-belly is anyway. When you do the standard basic mount by driving your knee across your opponent's belly, the weak spot is usually the other knee, because you take your weight off of it and the guy can elbow escape right back into half guard. The grapevine seems to tighten that up and let you stay for a second. I'm pretty sure this has at least some merit - the guy is a professor under Gracie Barra, and even though they are my gym's rivals, they are extremely legit.
same foot work as prefect dog fight. i dub thee Dog fight on belly!
Dog on belly? Dog Belly?
Big bellied Corgi? (love Corgi's)
Thanks
I played around with this a bit today in sparring. I didn't get swept but I didn't feel comfortable attacking.
