So, monday after training i noticed a small blood swelling on the inside of the ear. I went to a doctor on tuesday and he drained it, putting a pressure bandage around my head afterwards. He told me to keep it on for a few days (he said the longer the better). But I would like to remove it this week on Friday morning because I'll be going somewhere.
Anyone got experience with cauliflower ears and head bandages? How long are you supposed to keep it on at least?

The compression is supposed to help stop it from filling up again. I just let mine go and let them get bigger.
I just buy needles myself and do it at home ... but I still got a nice ear now lol
so how many days you guys keep the pressure bandage on?

You can drain it yourself, i did mine. then i just used one of those big binder clamps on my ear with some gauze..I left it on over night..seemed to be fine.

This is what I did too. Drained it, wrapped it up and kept the skin pressed to the cartailage with a clothes peg. It was hard to sleep with a fuckin peg on my ear, but the next day my ear was fine. I bought some of those tiny, strong magnets to pinch it together during healing next time. Should be easier to sleep on that a clothes peg.Quote:

they get hard after a week or two. keep the pressure on overnight or so. they wont swell up until you hit/grapple again.
i just went to a pharmacy and got a pack of 100 needles and a few syringes. it is easy to do.
ask Sam Bergeron...he watched me do it a dozen times on the train-cation cruise.

The only thing that healed my cauli was a knee injury. Its just not serious enough to stop, but you prolly should. But the trick is to get just a lil cauli.
Will, if you keep rollin it hasn't been two weeks. The trapped fluid needs to chill and calcify. Has to be the same fluid or you restart every practice.
I'd like to find out what headgear Eddie uses too. Someone said it was a Brute style that is no longer made, but I'm not sure.

The trick is to keep it compressed and closed after so it can't refill. The doctor did that with his sutures or bandages, but you will need another way. dealing with this for about a week now. drained it but had trouble finding a nose bleed clip locally. tried a chip clip and that was too painful. a pair of little magnets wrapped in gauze is working fantastically.
Tape up your ears or buy a scrum cap.

Totally true,I work as an EMT 7 have acquired ear swelling from rugby,judo,bjj and Ive just compressed the clots by myself,any time you introduce a needle to drain,that itself is puncturing the skin & creates another route for infection-especially staph.
Having had a staph infection (not from martial arts) its a beaaatch! nearly lost my leg:(
Ice it,compress it and protect it with tape/scrum cap/wrestlingheadgear. otherwise find a girl that loves you for you & wear that vegetable patch with pride!
You can also use finger splints for compression. It's just foam padding glued to thin bendy steel, cut with some big scissors and smash it on your ear. I used some rare-earth magnets from a dead hard drive.
I have Quad Brute III head gear and have been totally happy with them. Rolled with other guys wearing them and they haven't annoyed me being on the other end of them either. I have asked when wearing mine if they scratch or anyone the other guys I'm rolling with as well and have had no complaints.
I only wear mine for a couple weeks after getting cauli until it heals.
