tell me if im wrong, but this is no "regular" rubberguard is it? at least this is no position that i know or have been seeing...
in my opinion its harder to pull off from mission control and "impossibe" from new york...especially if you have a good squeeze. i dont think it works too often.
and i think, keeping your posture by planting your hands on the mat isnt a good idea...
Its a leg brabo. Not sure what other names there are for it. Used to see more it in older Ryan Hall and Lloyd Irving vids
That video is gold
I forgot about the pace choke. I meant the position rather than the submission thoughhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBFUI1KmPdEhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBFUI1KmPdE
Fail.
That dude wouldn't last in Eddie's RG. Maybe against someone who is just learning... maybe.
Free hands on the mat, Thankyou!
Excellent. Now I have all the tools I need to defeat Denny.
Man that is the weakest "rubber guard" i have seen. Plus, you don't try use rubber guard to break someone down, you use it once you have someone broken down. Your arm should NEVER be stretched over his back, and he should be using his other arm to grab his ankle. He leaves his hand on the mat as Mr Zog mentioned above and while he's trying to stuff that leg I'm just clearing the neck and putting him in jiu claw/carni.
If you want something that REALLY stops rubber guard, Slick Rick has a move called the Rubber Stamp which seriously works.
I think it's on the forum.
I hate to sound degrading but this is a pretty nonsense video.
I may be under-educated and only study books and online but i have discovered the closest way of defeating the Rubber Guard. I call it...... Using the Rubber Guard! If you cant beat 'em, join em' and if you cant defeat it, use it! and use it first!!
Please have a look at the Rubber Stamp. I posted video on this forum, just bust a search. I hate to say it, but it's awfully effective.
Most effective rubber guard stopping technique I know is by going...

I like when people try to come up with defenses to things they don't truly understand yet... usually leads them exactly where I wanted them. Hands on the mat... exposed neck... If you seriously want to defeat the rubber guard I suggest learning the details first. And once you're at that point I suspect you will be using it more than you will be defeating it
But in the end, I don't need to prove anything with video. I just show technique. It's up to the person to make it their own or keep moving. As long as you have something that works for you, do your thing brotha.
You're technique looks pretty sound Rick... None of what I said was a reference to you bro :) I'm just speaking in general terms
this video deserves to be on the "how to defeat the rubberguard FAIL blog"...i dont understand how people try to teach you on how to defeat something, with out learning how to do it correctly 1st.
Ahahahaha! yeah....just put your hands on the mat, I LOVE it!!!
Well if you can help it, t-Rex and break away. But if you f'd up and he zombies your arm, hit that rubber stamp.
Don't just put your hand to the mat because your want to get out of his rubber guard. That's like purposely putting your arm in an armbar, just to say you stacked someone and escaped.
Slick Rick - I really appreciate you being up on the forums and giving so much insight. It's really nice to have a another high ranked 10p guy on the forums constantly giving his thoughts, opinions, vids, ect...
Thanks!
Carni City :)
Ya thanks Slick Rick. Please post more often.
Rick, come up to HQ and let's test the rubber stamp for reals. I hope it works so I have something for Shigecki when he wraps me up in the RG :)
Definitely Eddie! I was there about a week before the holiday party but it was a slow night. Not to mention I think you were doing a seminar in Aus.
Waiting for this back to get better because I committed the cardinal sin- rolling 2 hours without stretching beforehand.
But I definitely would love to see how you and the guys respond because we'll all benefit from it!!
Let's shoot for next week then. Do you have Wednesday night classes?
Yockel used to do the fist-in-the-back to me when I'd try and put him in IC. I don't know where he picked that up; if he got that from you or even if he was doing it the same. I just know a couple of knuckles in the right place can REALLY make you re-think your rubber guard. Good stuff Rick!
