Thanks for this.
There goes my secret weapons. ;)
awsome video chris. a lot of my questions have been answered. keep em coming!!! :-)
Awesome, thanks for the post.
Question: Is the leg knot considered reaping?
Thanks Zog
Thanks guys!
Depends on where you compete. My focus is on advanced and development of Leg Locks for MMA and Submission Grappling.
NAGA, Grapples Quest, Abu Dhabi, MMA has no rules against "reaping the knee" from top position.
I'm not sure what the rule is for top position in the IBJJF, I know for sure the Reaper set ups I use from the bottom are illegal. You would have to ask them.
I do know that US Grappling (That runs the Submission Only events) has made anything (from the top or bottom) across the knee illegal except in the advanced division. So everying in the above video except for "The Clamp" position would be illegal.
im put some serious reps on that whole video :)
Herzog is an amazing teacher. Just learned a bunch of new details.
I can't stress enough the importance of having proficiency in these positions of control. It’s truly the foundation for the system of leg attacks that I teach. Without competency in these positions of control all the transitions like The Reaper become low percentage attacks. If you want to become a Leg Lock Bounty Hunter you have to master the positions of control.
Why a Bounty Hunter?
Because Bounty Hunter take that shit home with them.
You're an unbelievably detailed teacher. I'm going to have to watch this like a hundred times lol.
ttt
Is this knot a great vid?! Very nice.
wow, everything in this is solid gold. been doin the knee knot for a while, got it from a sambo instructor a while back. cant believe i missed the leg lock camp in decatur >:i
Great stuff! Thanks for the vids Herzog!
TTT for Herzog and his leg lock game. Pure awesomeness and super terrifying to be on the bad end of :)
Thank you for this. Your attention to detail is impressive. I hope I can attend one of your seminars soon.
Glad my shaky hands didn't ruin the video for anyone.
Coach Zog is a great teacher. When I can land that in rolling twice (once from clamp, once from wedge), literally the same day I learned it, you know Zog taught us well. He's a BAMF from a lineage of BAMF's. 10th planet has some nasty tools to play with man. Proud to be a part.
Great stuff, I was drilling the details from this video this past saturday trying to re-tighten up my leg lock game. I was getting sloppy and skipping steps, this should keep me straight.
You're basically Santa. Thanks Zog!
Tuned it up after watching this and hit the wedge three times between yesterday and today. Just BOOM. It was awesome. I felt like The Debacle. So many details to pay attention to though! I've lost it more than I've hit it. Still... Thanks coach! :D
(squeeze the knees more, hug the knee tighter...)
Wonderfully! The gym has a good vibe to it; very welcoming bunch. It's a young gym and pretty much everybody is in excellent shape -- which makes for some very good work outs. Tim is a very good coach and it's been very interesting to see the similarities and differences between Roc and here. Probably most significantly, it's only 15 minutes away so I can go a lot more often!
I do have an unfair advantage when rolling as well: I've rolled with the apes in Rochester, kids. I don't care how athletic you think you are, if you don't have the sub -- even if I'm pooped you're using every ounce of wrestlerbeast in you -- I'm not tapping. Too many guys are way too sloppy and an out-of-position kimura isn't going to do it no matter how much you huff and puff. I've been in *ZOG'S* kimura and you think you're gonna get a tap with that half-assed crap? Uh uh. Tighten it up or it's my turn. ;)
All that said, I miss you and everybody else tons. 10th Planet Rochester is the moon I was born on so it'll always feel like home.
We miss you too brotha, its not the same without ya!
Great stuff Coach!
Just saw this horror heel-hook. Other guy does a nice throw 2(at 0:50). As soon as they hit the ground guy starts giving up his leg in multiple ways. Its like when you know something bad is about to happen in a horror movie

That's a good example of what Coach Zog is always preaching about leg locks:
1) Securing the position of control first is PARAMOUNT. You MUST secure the position or you risk losing the position, at best, or being countered.
2) Attack from a position that leaves you with as many options as possible while leaving your opponent with as few as possible.
I dunno who the fella on the bottom was, but he missed out on that wisdom. He should have tucked that left leg in and established X-guard or at least had the left butterfly in first, then finished the reaper to a secure position; e.g. wedge or leg knot. Once you have one of those positions, your opponent's options to counter have diminished substantially. He was in a half-assed 50/50 from his back (sorry to offend the 50/50 guys -- I know, he didn't have that properly either.) In that position, his opponent had all of the control. By sticking his right leg through for the reaper without establishing his butterfly or x-guard first he gave away one of his best options to defend the heel hook; or rather, he gave his opponent an opportunity at a heel hook that wasn't there until he gave up position. He put himself in a position where his opponent had an excellent chance of countering his attack because he went for the submission without securing a position of control. Cost him a knee.
Now everybody that was horrified by that vid, go back and watch Coach's reaper series again and soak in the knowledge. ;)
