I jammed my left thumb pretty badly rolling yesterday and it didnt really swell much and no bruising and i can move it with about 50% range of motion but I have no squeezing ability with the hand at all, can barely even hold a teeshirt in that hand, its a tiny bit swollen today. Any advice? Do I need to see a doctor or will it heal on its own? Thx for the help.
it'll heal by tuesday
if you can move it at all the joints, it shouldn't be broken. if you can't go get an xray because it might be broken.

Sprains usually last 2 to 3 days for me 2, depending how bad it is. If its swollen, ice it to get the blood circulating through it better. People rolling their wrist to break your grip can aggravate it a little and make the sprain linger around for a while. Its hard to notice while grappling sometimes cuz you get focused on not getting submitted and dont realize how much pressure is put on your thumb every-time someone break your wrist grip.

By the way, to you have health insurance? Is this why you're haven't seen a doctor?
I've got health insurance, I'm just generally one of those guys who sees a doctor as a last resort. If it'll heal on its own I like to let it.

It'll get better eventually. You're gonna have to tape it for a while. But after a few injuries, they get popped out easier and easier. I have horrible thumbs. :(

Every thumb injury I ever had seems to last at least 6 mo... its so easy to re-injure.
Thanks for the advice everyone, It's improving pretty rapidly so I'm hoping to be back to normal in a few days, I've gotten back most of the range of motion and there's rarely any pain, I will be very careful tho.
